I think the real question is this. If McCalister returns to form (or close to) of a shut down corner, how much hotter will Harbaughs seat get? It was his decision to go with Hauschka and there must be somthing behind the "doghouse" rumors between him and C-Mac.

Agreed! He can't let personal grudges get in the way of the overall big picture. Putting the best product on the field as possible. I really hope he returns to form. If he does we should bring him back, he's a Raven, he belongs in Baltimore and it would be an excellent compliment to Webb who I see becoming a starting corner soon.

Face it, C-Mac will never be as good as he was in his prime, pre-07. Good for him, it must be nice signing with arguably the best team in the NFL after rehabbing an injury half the year.

He will though. Politics are a HUGE factor in the NFL. Its all about who gets paid what, who pissed off who, and who kissed whose butt. McAlister will never be back.,

Good for C-Mac, I hope he steps in and kills it for the Saints. We will be kicking ourselves once again when he does...

We'll see. Something has to be said for teams with weak secondaries who passed up on this guy for the last 10 weeks.

I'll say this. You all think the coach is the only one calling the shots here. We have a GM who makes the decisions along with the coach. Throw Harbs under the bus all you want but it's ultimately Ozzie and Bischotti who get the final say in who goes and who stays.

Things went down between Harbs and C-Mac. We have no idea what really went down between those two but it was obviously bad.

You guys are something else, it's much easier for a team to sign a guy that "hasn't done it to them". Well, he did it to us. He should have had the knee surgery MUCH sooner, he sought 2 or 3 "second opinions". Do you guys remember how bad he was getting burned last year? Funny how soo many folks were asking for his head, then they get it and want to sew it back on. Not me, I loved CMAC but his time has passed with the Ravens. I wish him the best, maybe he is in shpae now. Maybe this whole deal WAS a wake up call, I doubt it though. I do think he is probably better then what we have but we were looking for a long term solution. Maybe the guys picked up aren't the answer but the replacement was needed.

When things go bad, everyone looks for excuses. Even if they make no sense at all.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. It took 10 weeks for someone to sign this guy. Don't be shocked if you see him released in a few weeks to open up a roster spot again. He was picked up as an insurance policy at this point. I'd be shocked if he finishes the season with the Saints.

I will never deny what C-Mac did for this team. But this wasn't a move the Ravens needed to make.

If/when Chris McAlister makes his first interception for the Saints, everyone will be like, "Now why didn't we re-sign him?!??!" -- even if he does nothing else the rest of this season. -_-

True, but keep in mind, his alcoholism was only speculation; there's been nothing documented in the media to indicate that he's had a battle with alcoholism, nor that he's needed (or sought) treatment. All of that is off-the-field stuff that we've only heard through the grapevine but don't really know. We should keep the conversation strictly on his football skills than his personal battles (or lack thereof.)

I agree. All the guy has done is sign with a team. He could take a couple of snaps and be out for the season.

If he makes it onto the field people on here will going crazy. He's yet to play one NFL play in over a year!

Since he was merely signed as an insurance policy, McAlister could easily be released as soon as Tracy Porter returns from injury. Though Porter is expected to miss six weeks, there's always the outside chance he returns a little sooner than that. And since Chase Daniel, their third QB, was released to make room for McAlister, there's always the chance that they prefer to have Daniel more than McAlister if there's other young corners on the depth chart making a case for playing time.

Well, Washington and Foxworth have a combined 1 INT, so...

Money on this ending up like the Stover situation. We let the guy go for someone less talented and it shows. Notice how our two players that we got rid of now reside on the two undefeated teams? Apparently these winners see something we don't.

I'll be the first to admit that I'll be very salty if Cmac does well. He has long been one of my favorite players, and although I knew his release was inevitable, it still kind of ticked me off that we didn't at least offer him a reduced contract, which we ended up giving Rolle instead. Not that I didn't want Rolle back too, but if we had to choose between keeping one of those two, it should have been Cmac. Now looking in hindsight, its obvious.

If C-Macs knee is actually as healthy as reported, he'll be at the very least their nickel, and used in both blitzes and coverages.

We offered him a reduce contract and he declined. Decided to rest the knee until now, apparently he feels the knee is better.

hmm.. that wasn't too bright of him to decline. But I guess if the rumors about him and the coaches are true, it's not surprising.
Oh well; he wouldn't have been worth the $11M he was due, just would be nice right now to have a guy who we can count on at CB.

We WOULD have offered him a reduced contract IF he could have passed his physical. He COULD NOT.

Two days ago, ESPN reported veteran cornerback, former Raven, and three-time Pro Bowl player Chris McAlister signed with the New Orleans Saints. I've been following his time in the free agent market throughout the season and thought he would go with the Raiders but I'm kind of surprised by this. I'm not sure how much gas in the tank he has left but I'm interested to see what he does for his new team. I can't help but ask msyelf why we didn't sign him back with our starting DBs under-performing week in and week out. Indeed, the cornerback position has been our achilles heel all season long and we could have at least signed him back for another year to see what he could do. Even if he could provide more of a veteran leadership role than playing on the field but only time will tell. What do you guys think?

I loved watching C-Mac play since 2000, when Harbaugh released him i was like what the heck?! I honestly hope like others, that C-Mac exceeds expectation of him, good or not. Maybe Harbaugh's seat will be in jeopardy with all our CB deficiency, i would have loved to have C-Mac retire in purple and black, his veteran leadership could be a huge mindset for our CB's on team. Imagine C-Mac in someway shape or form around his prime, or even just half as good as he was in his prime years with a learning and growing Lardarius Webb on the other side of him.... :borg_assimilation_faces:

considering he's listed as the 3rd string CB, i wonder how much he'll play...

Kinda funny how everyone was speculating he'd go to oakland, aka the bottomless pit of the NFL...and instead he winds up in New orleans, the Promised Land (this year anyways)
