Anyone Else Miss Lorenzo Neal?

13 posts in this topic

I sure do. Our problems on short yardage are caused by the lack of a second quality blocking FB. McClain is one of if not the best short yardage backs in the game but we're forced to send him into the line with no lead blocker and he gets eaten up.

I feel our offense is becoming more of a finesse offense. With a team like the Bengals already dominating us physically twice this year we could really use our jumbo set like we had last year.

I think we miss more than just Lo Neal. Birk and Chester were being owned last night. We miss Jason Brown.

I really think Brown would've struggled last night too. Rogers and the rest of the line played very well.

This team definitely misses Neal though.

It doesn't even have to be Neal. Get one of the backup linebackers or DT to be lead blocker sometimes and pound the rock inside. But seeing the Ravens run McClain up the gut unprotected is just silly.

That isn't a bad idea. I think Edgar Jones could do it but I highly doubt that would happen.

I agree about McClain though. The occasional FB dive is fine but running him out of single-set is a waste of time.

Calling that play on second and 1 is fine by me but not on 3rd and 2.

..Yes, to answer the O.P. Don't forget though that we did draft/signed ufa FB-Jason Cook, and I think the plan was to let McClain take over fb duties this year, but next year, being as though McGahee is certainly gone this off-season, to develop Cook or draft another FB to block for Rice/McClain. We have a quite a few players on the practice squad whos talent is still developing... I.e. matt lawrence, riley, harper,Cook. I think next year will be another exciting year to witness the pure genius Ozzie and co. have picked from this and next years undrafted class..

Is he even still on the team? On the practice squad maybe?

Something tells me Shaun Rogers will be a FA next year...

Anyways, I miss Lorenzo Neal because he is a linebacker playing fullback. LeRon doesnt have that intensity and thats not disrespect to him, Lo Neal is one of the best blocking full backs of all time.

I totalaly agree.Neal was a pure fullback that could get you a yard but would much rather help you to have a seat so one of his teamates could pass by untouched. He wasn't in the league all those years for nothing,a team player if there ever was one!

Yep, after Bart, I miss him the most. He was a blocking specialized who ran people over. McClain is very well rounded, but is better utiilzed running behind a hard nosed fullback.

Not to mention, Rice and McGahee would be better off running behind Lo Neal too.
