Positives From Last Night's Game...

26 posts in this topic

As frustrating as yesterday was from an offensive standpoint, there were a few positives to dig up.

Sam Koch continues to be an underrated, consistent performer for this team. With gunners like Webb and Tyree, this team should be able nullify ANY punt returner the rest of the way.

Speaking of Webb, he continues to impress me. He showed a good motor to get the sack, had good coverage and made a good tackle on one of the final plays of the game and also hustled to prevent Koch's punt from bouncing into the end-zone. He's going to be a really good player for this team.

Prescott Burgess was another bright spot. He's consistently the first player on both kick-off and punt coverage to get to the return man and he rarely misses a tackle. He made some great plays in pre-season but I now see why the team brought him back.

Our defense was dominant. But Cleveland's offense is clearly one of the worst ever so I don't know how much we can take away from this game from a defensive standpoint.

I guess the biggest positive then would simply be a confidence booster for our defense heading into the Colt game.

As much as I thought the Rice throw was at the wrong time in the drive, I was still happy to see us do something a little different.

I also would take Webb as the bright spot from last night - really playing with heart!

Sam Koch and our ST return coverage is awesome. They bottled up Kribbs almost all night.

Was glad to see CC, Landry, and Fabian do some positive things that actually helped the team. Still waiting on Fox.

Brady Quinn stinks, so we'll be able to sweep the Browns for years to come if they stick with him.

Was good to see McLain and Willis take advantage of the chances they were given.

And I am running out of nice things to say here...

The one positive that was jumped off the screen to me >> Brady Quinn is not a Raven.

Thats certainly something to be thankful for. Because we certainly did almost trade up for him. Grubbs isnt a pro bowler but I am glad we've got him and not Quinn.

A win is a win. But like many people stated:

Webb was very active.
We achieved a shutout which is pretty hard to do in the modern era (even against the Browns).
To my displeasure - we ran the ball to suck the clock dry in the second half. I would've like to see some more points to help spark this offense for next week's game.
Tackling still needs help, but it looked a little bit better last night.

Tough win but a win is a win and I'll take it. Glad that Ray Lewis hit that punk Cribbs, STOP playing when the clock shows 0:00 in the 4th! 16 - 0 and Cribbs wants to score a point???

Ray Lewis is GOD! :argdancingravensblueonwkk8:

Ray didn't hit Cribbs. Ray hit Robert Royal and Cribbs was leveled by Dwan Edwards.

No one has mentioned this yet, but our LBers deflected ALOT of Quinns passes last night near the line of scrimmage.

Ray Lewis and Suggs had one, and if I recall correctly so did JJ.

I too thought it was Ray.
The very last play of the game, Ray leveled Cribbs and then got up to go center field for team prayer.

Cribbs was still laying on the field after the cameras left.

No, Cribbs got flattened by Dwan Edwards. He was taken out on a stretcher after the cameras stopped rolling. According to reports, Cribbs had feeling in all extremities at the time and was talking and joking. Thank goodness.

Not sure who said Koch was underrated - I had posted earlier this year that with adjustments, last year he had the best net punt average in the league. Pretty sure the secret is out on this fella.

Webb - I think this guy is going to be a Raven for a while if he keeps it up.

JJ - JJ really impressed me last night. He was all over the place, relentless and briefly made me think of Jared Allen while watching him play last night. Give this man the nod!

All and all it's hard to gauge our performance by last nights game. Cmon, it is just the Browns. They can make any teams defense look good. Twas nice to get a lil chubby while watching our defense beat Quinn to the point the fella had to be pondering "WalMart Greeter" as a new career choice by the end of the game.

How about the Browns defense? That certainly was a good game for them. The offense however not as much.

Now for us, it was the same people. ST, Webb, Rice. Landry stepped up a few times there and that was nice to see.

I was at the game and the hit on Cribbs was from Edwards after he had pitched it to Royal. Ray hit Royal to end the game.

I was very pleased with the play of Ray Lewis. He played well against the run (had the most tackles w/ 7), rushed the passer well with his sack, and deflected two balls. One at the line of scrimmage and one in coverage. BTW, he is also #4 in the league in solo tackles.

We did fairly well, should have been more aggressive on defense. I think we could have generated 5 turnovers if we blitzed more, that Cleveland offensive line was really struggling to protect Quinn.

Props to Koch for great punting, the gunners did well. Once again, Webb was a standout.

Many concerns for this week upcoming though...
