Bengals Could Win Super Bowl

63 posts in this topic

Anybody still questioning if the Bengals are for real? They swept both the Ravens AAAAND the Steelers.

Now I know that there are many Raven Fans who don't think much of the "purple birds," this year. But the fact that the Bengals swept the STEELERS too, should be enough evidence that loosing two close games to the Bengals is no reason for embarrassment.

As a matter of fact, one could actually lose two close games to the Bengals and STILL BE CONSIDERED A TOP NFL TEAM (See Pitt Steelers EVEN IF you still can't see Balt Ravens).

So, the Ravens are 4-4, with two close loses to the Bengals, one loss each to the Vikings and the Patriots that they should have both won.

The Bengals proved today that the Ravens are not as bad as people think? If we can just get a LITTLE BETTER IN THE SECONDARY, this Ravens team still has a chance for the playoffs.

The Bengals are a good team -- no shame in being swept by them, especially if an equally-good team in the Steelers were also swept by them.

I wouldn't be mad if the Bengals won the Super Bowl -- but doesn't mean I'll be rooting too hard for them to make it that far just yet, if you get my drift. ;)

I dont know about a sudden SB appearance for the Bengals. They have no experience whatsoever in terms of playoff success. Not knocking or hating on them. We'll see what they're made of when the pressure is at an all-time high against teams who compete at playoff and championship levels every year. It would make a nice cinderella story though

Assuming the playoff field contains the prerequisite Patriots and Colts, as well as the Broncos or Chargers representing the AFC West, and then the Wild Card being made up of any possibility of the Ravens/Steelers/Texans/Chargers-or-Broncos/Jets/Dolphins, etc., I can see where it'd be a tough road to the Super Bowl...but stranger things have happened.

The Arizona Cardinals had no experience of being in the playoffs though Kurt Warner did, but the team in general didn't. The Cardinals went on to the Super Bowl and almost took home the Lombardi Trophy. Everybody in the media was looking to see who could be the Arizona Cardinals of this year.... most said the Texans could be that team but it's looking more and more like the Bengals could be the Arizona Cardinals of this year. It will be a very tough road as the road to the Super Bowl in the AFC will go through Indianapolis.

The way we've been playing, I would be surprised if we made the playoffs much less got back to the Championship game. Even though the Bengals are good enough to sweep the Steelers and Ravens, that does not mean that they are good enough to beat the Patriots, Colts or whichever other teams make it. I would be somewhat surprised to see them in the Super Bowl.

Well, if the SB is going through Indy, it looks like the Bengals are built to make that trip. They sacked Ben 4 times, intercepted him once and forced a fumble from the Steelers today. They PHYSICALLY beat the Steelers today, even without Cedric Benson. That doesn't happen too often. Ben was only 20 of 40 in pass completions.

The fact that the Bengals can stop the run, they can rush the passer, and they have two 1st round draft choices on the corners,,,, makes them very capable of beating any team in the NFL, including the Colts.

Honestly, the AFC North is just as stacked as the AL East of MLB. The Bengals are going to be hard to beat by ANYBODY in the NFL if they play th eway they have been.

They're proving they're definitely not another Browns, but I still say we're a better team, but I know "could be" isn't reality. It can still come together.

We have very clearly proven that we are not the better team. We are third in our division for a reason.

I don't think it's that clear at all. First game down to the wire, second they didn't play that much better. I know, wins are wins, etc., it's just my opinion we're better, that's all.

I gotta agree with Carson on this issue. The Bengals are a good team this year with a great defense. But as far as making a deep playoff run? Not sure they are there yet. If they continue to learn and improve, maybe, but I am not counting on it just yet. I am just proud of how they rebounded from last season. But don't count the Ravens out or the Steelers for that matter. Lots of football left to play. I will say I hate the Steelers and their fans because they never show any respect to other teams. They believe they are the NFL. They never lose a game, the refs take it from them or they give it away. Now the Ravens and their fans? They respect other teams and their talent. I assure you it is recipricated. I think the Ravens are still a great team. So let's see how things go. I can see two wild cards coming from the AFC North.

I think you guys have a real solid chance to sweep the Steelers. The conversion of the Steelers from a running to passing team will hurt them. Rottenburger gets rattled easy when he is pressured and sacked and knocked around. Evidenced in our last win over them. Get him rattled and you will have picks all day. The Steelers are way overrated this year and are vunerable with the right game plan. Would love to see Ray Ray in Rottenburger's face all day long.

Unlike the Steelers, I wouldn't mind at all if the Bengals won it all this year. Although I don't think they are better than the Pats or Colts.

I think the AFC North will be a division to reckon with this year. Not just by the Steelers and Ravens, but possibly the Bengals as well. Palmer can play like a #1. Ocho Cinco is ready to play some football this year. Henry & Coles are going to provide lots of options.
I always thought the Bengals could come out and surprise a lot of people. Above is what I said in Flynismo's Purple Reign Thread before the season. So its not surprise to me that they are doing well.

It'll be tough to get to the superbowl. You'll have to go down the usual road with the Patriots and Colts. And Colts are on their way to home field advantage.

Ravens & Bengals AFC Championship game I give it a 9% of happening.

I still think the Bengals are way overrated this year, but kudos to you on winning the division. I don't agree with what you said about Ben....in that any QB gets rattled when he's pressured. Ben's track record shows that he's one of the better QB's in that department.

"Picks all day long?" That's a bit of an exaggeration, dontcha think? He threw one in Cincy because of a bad route by the WR and yesterday's pass was deflected into the air.

The cincy offense was barely able to produce on our defense this year despite us being without our pro-bowl SS in both games. A defensive TD and a ST's TD are what won both of those games for the Bengals.

Again, 5-0 in any division is an impressive feat. So congratulations. Although, I'm not completely sold, there is obviously something about them Bengals this year.

If you watch the replay Tuesday 9:30 you will see 4 dropped picks by our defense. Ben was so rattled by getting his butt planted on the ground that he was sailing and wobbling almost every pass. See the final pass? Wounded duck cause he had orange in his face. Ravens tend to have better hands on picks.

Right. As I said, most QB's are going to react the same way. Now if you want to say that your defense dominated our O-Line then I would have no argument because they did. But, Ben is one of the best under pressure.

So, the Bengals have won the first half of the season Superbowl, like the Jets last year. Good for them. Its not how you start but how you finish. Until they actually get there, if they even make the playoffs, lets hold off on crowning them. This is shaping up to be a wild season and ANYTHING is possible.

Yea, Ben said something about that whole game having a weird feel to it. Not sure what he was getting at, but whatever. They didn't play well enough to win.

Regarding the Bengals, they've got a lot to be proud of and I'm sure they're oozing confidence right now. I respected them before kick off yesterday, but I'm just not sold on them yet. Maybe I should be, who knows.
