Records Were Meant To Be Broken

4 posts in this topic

So there are several players with outstanding stats through their first 8 games, and several season records are on track to be broken. Any chance of any of them happening. I think Manning is the only one who can, and I think he will.

Peyton Manning on pace to pass for 5090yd. Record - 5084yd

Jared Allen on pace to have 21 sacks. Record 22.5 sacks

Darren Sharper on pace to have 14 INTs, 6TD, and is also 42 yd shy of the season INT return record. Lets put it this way. If he keeps this pace up, at the end of the season he will have the following records under his belt: INTs season, INT returned for TD season, INT returned for a TD career, INT return yardage season, INT return yardage career, Most seasons leading the league in INTs, andmost seasons leading league in INT return yards.

Jairus Byrd has a chance to beat the single season record for INTs and INTs by a rookie(which, coincidentally the #1 and #2 record for INTs in a season were both by rookies)

Chris Johnson is on pace to have 1918yds rushing. Record - 2105(I know this one is a long shot)

on a side note, that has nothing to do with the topic, but I came across it while searching nfl records. Did you know Derrick Mason holds the NFL record for all purpose yards in a season with over 2600 :bowdownsmiley:

Sure did, and Leon Washington was on pace to shatter that record before he was shattered.

Move over, AP.

Here’s how Chris Johnson stacks up against the explosive Peterson halfway through their respective second seasons (2008 for AP).
Johnson: 395 attempts, 2,187 yards, 5.54 YPA, 15 TD
Peterson: 414 attempts, 2,164 yards, 5.23 YPA, 18 TD

Nevermind the fact that Johnson leads the league in rushing and is 175 yards ahead of Peterson. Chris Johnson averages 6.66 yards per carry. Even the Jim Brown averaged only 6.40 ypa in his best year. (AP is a respectable 4.8 in case anyone was wondering.)

Furthermore, CJ agrees with the subject of this thread:
"We really believe like we can [make the playoffs] ... like we started off 10-0 last year ... before we played Jacksonville, we sat down and was like, 'We really feel like we can go 10-0 in these last ten games. We still want to make the playoffs and we know it's going to be a very, very tough thing to do, but that's what records are for -- they're meant to be broken."http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/11/03/johnson-believes-titans-can-run-table/
