Who Is The Best Rapper Alive?

143 posts in this topic

Best Rapper and Lyrcists goes to GZA.

The man is a genius. Liquid Swords and his new album Pro Tools are both so amazing.

I don't understand how the man could've improved so much lyrically from one album to the next. He was horrible on 500 Degreez and then improved drastically on Tha Carter -- yet, despite that, was still not that special on the mic. He has to have a ghostwriter.

His flow is admittedly unique, but nothing that ODB didn't do better back in the day. Otherwise, Weezy has no redeeming qualities as a straight-up lyricist.

Just pure garbage, with all the stuff that happened around New Orleans (his proclaimed home) he had so much real life stuff to talk about in songs. Yet he totally ignored the real life issues of it and went right along with stuntin like my daddy, and his NO ballin remix. When he proclaimed he was best alive I instantly wanted somebody with a lick of lyrical talent to straight up challenge him on the mic in a battle.

We were talkin about him earlier in the thread. Liquid Swords and Raekwon's Only Built for Cuban Linx's are two of my favourite albums. Wu-Tang was so legit back in the day.

Mainstream rap/hip hop is utter garbage, that includes Lil Wayne.

The only mainstream artist that I like is Lupe Fiasco, he's not about cars and money. His flow and lyrics are 10 times better than Lil Wayne, but people would rather just listen about girls , money and houses.

Lupe raps about real stuff. The Cool is one of the best albums I've heard.

I agree. He barely touched on the topics around New Orleans on his mixtapes, maybe writing only one or two songs about Hurricane Katrina. Sad when Jay-Z's "Minority Report" was a better lyrical picture of the severity of Katrina's impact than anything that Wayne put out about it.

Meanwhile, I would've loved to see Royce Da 5'9" or Joell Ortiz tear Weezy apart.

Does anyone no if andre 3000 is gonna put a solo cd out?

He technically already did when he released The Love Below alongside Big Boi's Speakerboxxx album as part of that OutKast (so-called) double album, but he's too busy focusing on acting and other interests right now. He said awhile ago he was working with Big Boi on a new, true OutKast album, but not sure if it'll ever come out at this rate.

I love Dead Wrong. I had it as a ringtone when I was in HS, and is one of most heaviest used instrumentals in rap battles/freestyles that I know of. Loved Em's verse btw, I have him as the best rapper alive he's got an awesome blend of humor and hardcore lines and creates the best diss tracks. His multis are incredible and hes an even better lyricist. He's also a pretty damn good freestyler as he's known for going toe to toe with Juice at Scribble Jam,one of the best freestyle battlers ever.

The beat is so damn hard, I can't even rap over it. I try, but my voice is wayyyy too laid-back to fit the mood, and I can't flow to it as well as I can other beats.

I guess your talking about the Taylor Swift incident.

OT- Did anybody take the where will Kanye interrupt you quiz on facebook?
I took that quiz, but don't remember what I got... I think it was that he would interrupt me during an argument with my girlfriend.

Eminem used to be up there with the best of them... I don't have enough insight into the rap industry to know who's out there now.

Never was a big rap fan, but I like Eminem and the old stuff (Public Enemy and RUN DMC). I like Snoop and Tupac though too.

Eminem's stuff has been epic over the years so I'd pick him. I know that's probably not the popular pick.... again, not an authority on the subject.

In most things not concerning the New York Yankees (and probably Ravens/Steelers) I think you and I share a brain.

....Shut up Jon.

He's fallen off, largely because he started to try to be more humorous than lyrical. He started writing silly songs that were never really all that funny, and even though he's shown flashes of the same lyricism as before, he's less about being serious and more about having fun -- not necessarily a good thing for a guy whose reputation was built on some of his darker songs.

He can still freestyle with the best of them, but in terms of writing, his songs are always hit-or-miss.

I can't stand rap! As it is really hard to understand with everybody just rapping and you can't understand the words as they go by too fast.

But in the 80s, I loved Run DMC! I admit I liked also Vanilla Ice.

No way am I reading thru 6 pages of favorite rappers, but I'll post mine here
1 Jay-Z
2 Ice Cube
3 Snoop Dogg
4 Biggie Smalls
5 Busta Rhymes

I'm not gonna list them all, but those are my top 5 for sure, Followed in no specific order by Emimem, Nelly, Lauren Hill (not technically a rapper but still has amazing voice), 2 Pac.... well I could go on but wont.

Luda and Busta have a similar flow, it's very free flow. I'm not a huge fan of Rap of Hip hop, I love Metal but I do enjoy listening to good music.

Eminem just uses that stupid middle eastern/triumph voice on all of his songs.

However, He kills Drake and Wayne on Forever.

Best rappers:
Tupac
Eminem
Jay Z
