Please take a moment to witness probably the coolest live video ever. Beasties "Shadrach", filmed live, then hand-painted in oil and shot again and sequenced into one of the most time-consuming videos ever produced.......

Beastie Boys Licensed to Ill was my first music ever purchased (Tape). I've always like them since. My second music purchase on tape was MC Hammer. Talk about a living legend. :(

My first CDs I bought were Dr Dre the Chronic & Weezer the Blue Album.

Anybody here got any love for oldschool DMX, like when he first came out, Its Dark and Hell is Hot, Flesh of my Flesh Blood of My Blood. I said it already but Slippin, is one of my top 10 favourite songs all time.
[/quote]

Just the first album Its Dark and Hell is Hot. "Get at me Dog" and the "Ruff Ryder Anthem" I would play all day long.

"It's Dark and Hell is Hot" is one of my top-ten albums of all time. The dark visuals on that album were amazing, and you could tell this was DMX when he was at his most inspired (also before the start of his documented drug problems, but that's a different story...)

The album itself is historic because it knocked Garth Brooks off the top of the Billboard charts and began a run of #1 albums for Def Jam Records, ushering in the Platinum Era of hip-hop and bringing the genre to new heights -- for better or worse.

Royce Da 5'9"

There's something to be said about a man who blows his chance at mainstream stardom because of his personal bout with alcoholism, only to find redemption in the industry again by forming a supergroup with other underappreciated underground rappers. Eminem wants to sign him and the other members of Slaughterhouse to Shady Records, and with his underrated body of work, it's easy to see why. He can do materialism, social commentary, humor, storytelling...any type of song you can think of, he's probably done it, and done it well.

Royce's Part of Me video is truly disturbing!

The video wasn't even necessary -- the song's visuals in itself were disturbing.

Now....after loving licensed.....did it take you a minute or two to realize the genius of Pauls Boutique? Because I bought the CD, hated it, picked it back up after a couple years, and its my favorite album....still.

Man, X is coming for you pretty much sums up what you said. What he says in that song is just out of control. The first time I heard that album I was like this has got to be the scariest mother of all time.

Hardcore hip-hop, done right. It's not even overly lyrical; DMX's delivery is just unmatched in that song, and it matches the old-school-type beat perfectly.

(Lots of flashing lights, so not recommended for those with epilepsy or are prone to seizures)

Can't say I've ever tried to listened to it. But since you endorsed it so highly and its currently a $5 album on Amazon. Think I'll have to give it a whirl.

Theres alot of people that think that song saved hip hop from the commercial lollipop style Puff Daddy was taking it to over at Bad Boy Records. Which coincidentally it ended up going to anyway.

So you just skipped over it an onto Check Your Head? Ill Communication?

For a five spot, you can't lose. It was just such a leap from Ill Communication. I just love their lyricism, its hilarious in some songs, scary in others, Always cerebral. They are true clowns.

At first I bought into Puff Daddy. I was young and naive. I bought his album. Now I can't stand the man. He's rode the coat tails of B.I.G. to material success.

I must've. I remember buying Check your head. Wasn't too impressed. Then Ill Communication, which was good. But I can't ever recall Paul's Boutique.

Not many can. People hated it beacuse they liked Ill so much and it was completely different. It was the bridge that connected the basic rapping of Ill Communication and the absolute deconstruction and rebuilding of the Beasties that came out later.

Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun???? High Plains Drifter??? Dark.

Hey Ladies??? Shake Your Rump???. Hilarious

Those are Pauls Boutique tracks.

I was naive too, but "Dead Wrong" made me realize that Biggie was the one with all the talent.

One of the most violent songs I've ever heard, but so damn visual. You can just picture each line of each verse so vividly, and it's more gut-wrenching than any Hollywood production could hope to replicate. If ever a song was visceral in its presentation and atmosphere, this is it.

Puff was the original sound effect guy. "Huh", "Yea", "Bad Boy", "Never Stop"

While the B.I.G. was ripping lyrics.

Strictly a West Coast invention. "Gangsta Rap" as it was known at first to us before everyone lumped Rap into a type of Gangsta or poppy stuff. I lived in California for 2 years, so I got some love for Dre, Kurupt and some of those old dudes. Tupac and Ice Cube were some of the only West Coast guys to actually talk about something other than "the hood".

You can't forget about the Fugees and the Score. You either love them or hate them. But they had one of the greatest one hit albums ever (despite the fact that actually released two albums).

I personally never get tired of "Fu-Gee-La" and "Ready or Not"
