Week 9 – Baltimore Ravens At Cincinnati Bengals

2,199 posts in this topic

To make the playoffs we've got to win 6 of our last 8 OR Cinci and Pitt have to both totally collapse in the second half. Our best shot at the playoffs was the division, thats gone now. We've already blown tie breakers to the Pats and Jets, by virtue of losing to the Pats. And we've also blown the tiebreaker vs the Texans, by being swept by the Bengals. I am not sure where the tie breaker with MIA is right now but I am pretty sure we've blown that to.

Our playoff fate is out of our hands, which almost certainly means we wont be going.

Lets just hope to see some of our young guys progress. I'd like to see more from Webb, Zibby, and Nak. Hopefully, Rice and Flacco can continue to progress. Hopefully, we can get a look at Krugar. And hopefully our OL can improve. Maybe we can see some more Dwill.

This team is building I think alot of us thought superbowl this year,I to was optimistic but we gotta work on some things.I love the Ravens and it's been a heartbreaking month.I didn't buy alot of stock into our defense because of last week, but I did hope they got better 369 total yards given up but when you only hold the ball for 20 minutes sometimes momentum is hard to come by.Steve's miss deflated this team,we got the browns next week let's win that because we got a big stretch with indy, pitt, and gb coming up.I still will wear my Jersey's proudly even tho people will give me grief.but I don't care this is my team and in the end with or without the playoffs it will still be my team.

Based on what? What on Earth did you see in two head to head games between these two teams that CLEARLY shows the Ravens as more talented then the Bengals?
Maybe the team with the most potential somebody just needs to bring it to the surface.

If half the Ravens team showed up to play in either of those games, the Ravens win easy. Our team played like crap in both games and the Bengals still couldnt put them away without help from the Ravens.

Good post. I'll still be wearing my jersey proudly. These losses just hurt. I think alot of us didn't expect to be in this position at this point in the season. Crazier things have happened and this is the NFL. We can still turn it around.

I am with you and I still will wear my jersey and we were hopeful and we now face reality, it will come someday. Well I work with Redskin fans so, I don't think I will get much grief. The Ravens are my team good or bad.

We arent ready to throw away the season but the truth is obvious even if we win out, Harbaugh is a young coach who has made some bad decisions like kicker, corners, and losing some needed veterans like McCallister. I will be with the Ravens if we were 0-16, I am just upset by some bad staff decisions and play calling. I'll be here for every game with all of you better or worse, and beat the hell out of a steeler fan or 2. PEACE until next week

If we only lose to Pitt once and Indy, and win every single of the other games, we might make it, but we'd have to do a Cardinalesque postseason turnaround. (And we know how that worked out in the end XD)

@rzach21 no i was at work...but I was at the game in Baltimore...and Cincy marched up and down
the field like it was theirs...penalties and bad calls notwithstanding.

Point is I won't give up on the Ravens because they lose...you want a team that wins every week
why not root for the Saints or the Colts or the Broncos...oops no wait somebody beat them didnt
they?

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if the Bengals had a second half meltdown (they aren't exactly known for their abiblity to get past injuries). As you said, though it hardly matters

Miami isn't in the wildcard race, they've only won three games. Its ironic that both of last years AFC surprises have fallen flat.

With our team playing like it is, it's not like we'd go anywhere even if we did make the playoffs. (Barring a Giants 2007 style comeback.)

How? Please explain your sentiments.

The Ravens beat themselves in the same fasion that Michael Spinks did by running into Mike Tyson's fists a bunch of time.

I'm not talking trash, asking for crow to be eaten, or anything of the sort. I STILL respect the Ravens team & organization. & I STILL think the Ravens make the playoffs. Most of the fans on this board have been super nice. But to not give respect &, in fact, make a statment like yours (& others like it)- that's actually showing NO respect for an oponent & is being a poor sport, fella.

So, please take a moment & break it down for me.
Did we watch the same games? Do you think the Bengals are on the field half as long in EITHER game, if the Ravens dont committ all those stupid penalties? I guess the Bengals made the Ravens committ stupid penalty after stupid penalty.

Again, based on what? Your opinion as a Ravens fan? The whole team showed up twice, took the field & did what they were paid to do which is try to win a football game. Saying to the contrary without backing you opinion up with facts or instances is silly.

That's why I said "might." The Jets are erratic, the Chargers are in the West, and the Texans are not that solid. It could happen if the right teams lose the right games and we do an about face.

Well, we've still got the Jags to worry about. They are hovering around .500 to. And we have the tiebreaker over SD but SD is a notoriously slow starter. They could end the season with a better record than us and totally nullify the tiebreaker.

Wow. Did we stink it up today or what?

Where is the enthusiasm of last year? I haven't seen it at all this season. No confidence at all anymore. If we aren't careful we are soon going to look like...well I won't even say it at this point but everyone break out their war paint and feathers so we can dress the bird up if need be...

The defensive play calling is worthless. A monkey with headphones could probably do a better job. Heck I could do a better job and that is saying something. Our people look confused, nothing seems to be clicking. For craps sakes call Rex Ryan and beg borrow or steal, do whatever it takes to get that man back! Or at least get a monkey. Then we would have a certifiable excuse for why the team is going through so much air freshner.

Flacco looked horrible. It happens. He is going to have a bad day. All I can say is he needs to get his head out of his butt and get back to the basics. GET RID OF THE BALL!! O-Line needs to grow a pair or at least figure out where they left their original pair. I was aweful proud of those boys early in the season, I had said to myself "Look at this. The Ravens actually have an O-Line for once". Now I see it was just some foul trick, Cant' blame it all on Ngata being out either. Those boys are professionals, one player shouldn't make this big of a difference.

Some-one said, "at least we have the Lions". Um negative ghostrider. Does anyone remember that game two years ago against the winless Miami Dolphins? I sure as heck do.

We have all the talent as far as players that we need right now. The coaching needs to get with the program or there is no way we are going to see the postseason. Not with two trips to the Steelers and one to the Colts ahead. I won't even count out the Browns or Lions at this point.

I love my Ravens and I know they have the stuff to succeed but after watching todays game I have quite a bit of doubt that they are going to be able to step up to the challenges ahead.

the only problem with the 10-6 is our division and conferance records so far 3 of our 4 losses are in the afc we lose to pitt and indy that would be 5 that's what kept the pats out last year. truthfully anymore losses in the afc are gonna hurt us bad.

Dude they gave more yardage to Cinci via penalties than the offense had the entire first half. If that isnt the Ravens beating themselves I dont know what is.

If your looking to have your ego stroked, its not going to happen. So, get lost.

See, I guess where I'm coming from is the fact that the Bengals played with the same refs, right? & they were able to cover the Ravens without the same penalties, right? The bengals players were able to handle the pressure without as many mental or physical errors, right? The Ravens players cracked under the pressure that the bengals team put on them & committed penalties.

Besides that the Ravens got run all over... again, passed all over... again. & in general got beatten up... again.

The Bengals just match up really really tough for the Ravens. It's not your coaches (they're excellent), or your players (they're very very good - 2 or 3 HOFers), it's just the style of play & players executing that's tougher for Baltimore than it is Cincy in these games.

Too many people giving up the season, we are at 4-4 and getting the wild card isn't out of reach. The Colts helped us by beating the Texans and NE did us a favor by beating the Dolphins. Both of which were in the wild card hunt. Looking at the rest of the schedule:

Week 10: @ Cleveland: Win, 5-4

Week 11 vs Indy: Win, Upset of the Week 6-4

Week 12: vs Pittsburgh: Win, I still think we spilt with the Steelers, 7-4

Week 13: @ Green Bay: Win, they just lost to Tampa and they have the worst oline in the league. 8-4

Week 14: Vs Detroit: Win, 9-4

Week 15: vs Chicago: Win 10-4

Week 16: @ Pittsburgh: Lose 10-5

Week 17: @ Oakland: Win, Ravens match their win total from a year ago 11-5. Or 10-6 if we lose to Indy.

With 11-5 we probably get the 6th seed, maybe the 5th if we are lucky. 10-6 probably 6th seed or no playoffs. Looking at this schedule though we might have been swept by the Bengals, the Bengals don't have a cake walk to the division title. I'm looking at their schedule and they could finish 11-5 or 10-6 or 9-7 who knows. The Steelers look like they could finish 11-5 or 12-4 as well based off their schedule. 12-4 if they beat the Broncos, 11-5 if they lose Monday Night. This division race isn't over by any means. It's going to come down to Week 17. DON'T GIVE UP HOPE!

You could be right about SD, but I need to see more evidence before I start picking the West for a wildcard. Jacksonville is a possibility though; I had overlooked them.

Now what are the chances that our defense goes in and destroys Cleveland, starts to think they have their mojo back before getting slaughtered by the Colts? (Much like Cleveland before NE and Den before Cincy)

The Jets are, ironically, probably the key to our fate. If we end up with the same record, they have the tiebreaker. But they are as off and on as we are and they are playing with a rookie QB.

The other problem is, if Pitt does go on to take the division, Cinci gets in as the wild card. Leaving only 1 wild card slot left. Our best bet, is to pray for a Pitt meltdown, which most likely wont happen.

However, I'll not resort to name calling because I really just want to hear your opinions on the game.

The Colts are a tough defensive matchup for us but with two guys down in that secondary @ home, I like Flacco's chances. Will it be enough to win, probably not but stranger things have happened.
