Why Are So Many Browns Still Holding A Grudge?

45 posts in this topic

Ok they were without the NFL for 3 stinking years, whoopdy do. We lost all our team history, and unlike them we actually had Superbowls, and we didnt have the NFL for over a decade. I am not speaking of all Browns fans, some of you guys have let it go and moved on. Why havent the rest of them?

Most of them seem to have let it rest. What are you refering to? I never take flak from Browns fans, in fact most tell me that they don't blame the fans (if you recall, a lot of us actually sympathized with them when it happened) but Art Modell.

Have you been to Cleveland? Art Modell is like Satan there. He is even scared to go there. They don't hate us, they hate Modell.

I was listening to some Browns fans yesterday talk about how we stole their team. He went on to say all the things he hates about Baltimore. Early in the game, he accused the refs of being on our payroll. Refs being on the payroll of the most penalized team in the league....riiiiiight.

That couldnt have been more off base. I watch a lot of NFL games and over the years, I have never seen more down right bad calls made against one team. The NFL apologizes to us so much it rediculous.

I never had a problem with Browns fans until yesterday at the stadium. The altercation in the ladies bathroom changed my mind, and walking back to the tailgate lot.

I forgot that he represents the Browns fanbase.

/rolleyes

My Goodness do you read? I said I am not speaking of all Browns fans. Just the ones that do. Go back and READ my first post. Why do I get the feeling that you are looking to argue with me?

i think all browns fans should just let it go. we have our team now and we're playing well. at least we had a few months to fight for our name and colors unlike the people of baltimore who lost their team in the middle of the night with no advance warning. what's in the past is done and cannot be undone......c'mon browns fans, just let it go.....we're better than that.

agreed....your playing well enough to have the kind of record you guys have right now...and the Ravens are struggling and have had some problems trying to get into the groove and players just dont seem to be on the same page as the Quarterback....so yea lets just move on here.

Well, I don't agree. I've been to lots of Cleveland games and I encounter lots of fans who haven't gotten over it.

Just as last year's playoffs proved there are thousands of us who haven't gotten over the Colts moving to Indy. And while, in my mind our situation is entirely different, I try to keep a level head. With us, Irsay (or Satan as I like to call him), just left. No warning, no explanation, nothing. The total classless group were the Colts. They stole/took/whatever a very proud and storied franchise. We petioned, begged, pleaded, etc. to at least keep our heritage and they blatantly refused. That, is why the sting will never quite heal, especially when you hear of Peyton Manning breaking Johnny U's records.

Browns fans were upset and they should have been. Three years without football seems so small compared to our decade, but would any one of us want to give up even one year? I don't think there were many of us who were espcially proud or happy with how we acquired our team. Unfortunately, Paul Tagliabue didn't leave us much choice. Every time they decided to expand, we would request a team and he not so kindly told us to save our breath and use our money "to build a museum" somewhere. We're always going to be rivals since we're in the same division, but hopefully this particular issue will ease as the years go on. If there's one thing you can give us, it's that we had no interest in taking over your legacy. If a player breaks Jim Brown's records, it should be a Brown, not a Raven.

the plain and simple fact that the Fans Must move on, because it does noone ANY kind of good to keep dwelling on the past and all that.....the sooner they move on from it, the better off they will be. end of story.....this talk about this and that.....Doesnt change a thing. its over...its done, it cannot be changed.

I agree to an extent. I think people in Baltimore are over the Colts but we would like some revenge. I enjoy seeing our new team whip up on our old team and I hate when we lose to them but I am not on the Colts message board with a name like "killirsay", crying about it. I get that they are always going to resent the Ravens but the anamosity is just uncalled for. I cheer against the Colts 90% of the time but I dont have any contempt for their players or their fans. I respect most of their players and their coach. Some of these Browns fans are still calling Ray Lewis a murderer and he wasnt convicted of anything. Ironically, they bash Jamal Lewis for his little run in with the law when he was a Raven and he is one of them now. I am not kidding one of them posted something to the extent that "our organization was made up of convicts". To my knowledge that is not one convicted criminal on our team and the only one we had plays for the Browns. LMAO.

exactly..... i think most of us are over the fact that the Colts Left, even though there is still a bitter tastes in our mouths about it all....we would Love nothing more than to come in and beat the Colts team down and outright. i enjoy the times when we beat our old team....it gives me a sense of self accomplishment, its like me saying "Haha! That'll teach you a lesson about leaving in the middle of the night, without Giving any warning you were planning to do so!" and what not, that kind of thing. As for Some of the Browns Fans saying Ray is a murderer....newsflash for you....charges were dropped against him and he won the case. Jamal (ironically) on the other hand, of whom NOW plays for you guys....was convicted and in jail and all that jazz...yea im also hoping that with time, this particular issue to ease. and i also agree that if a player broke Jim Browns record...it should be a Brown and not a Raven althouh how ironic would that be??? lol

Speak for yourseleves! Most fans I know will never "get over" the stealing of the Colts in the middle of the night until we see the Baltimore Colts records retired and Baltimore Colts segregated from Indianapolis Colts in the Hall of Fame. And I will never, ever use Mayflower.

this is my two cents on the subject.we borrowed cleveland from cleveland, then we gave it back, via the league.

Indy stole baltimore from baltimore.they did not give it back.

My mommy always told me: stealing is wrong.

PS. that smiley is supposed to a burglar, its so rare I find a way to use it.

haha i agree.....i mis-worded what i was trying to actually say haha.....hate when you do that!.....noone will foregive the colts at what they did.....which was downright defined as a Hateful, sinister Act. And One of which should NEVER happen again. most fans here in Baltimore Take it VERY VERY personally, when the Colts come to town or the Ravens visit the Colts. Sure the Players of "then" have long since retired BUT the fans Feelings and Emotions and Anger...still burns deep within the Hearts of us Baltimore Fans.......

Down with the Colts!!!!!!!!! :angry::angry::angry:<_<:angry:

i agree that the baltimore colts history, records, super bowl, and everything should remain in baltimore.....im not even a baltimore fan and it irks me when i hear "former Indianapolis Colts star, John Unitas" he never played in indy.....he should be mentioned soley as a Baltimore Colt.......as for the browns...the 1946 thru 1995 history should be retired and not be associated with our new team. while we are named the Cleveland Browns, Jim Brown and those guys never played for this browns team. the team they played for relocated to Baltimore......i think we should start a new history beginning in 1999.

also, i am over the anti-ravens stuff.....especially sinice art no-longer owns the team.....i only hated the modell family. not the city of baltimore, the fans, or the team in general.

That's refreshing to hear, since I have to listen to a lot of anti-Baltimore rhetoric when I go to watch games down here. The place where I go is full of Browns fans. I think they're a Dawg Pound, our whatever your fan club is named. Some of those guys are alright, even shook my hand after the game and said that I was okay for a Ravens fan. I guess that's a compliment.

It's not so much of a hatred of the Ravens or their fans. It was all about Model. He's not the majority owner anymore, but unfortunately for you guys (if you really care, lol) the Art Stigma will probably stick around long after he's gone.

On the other hand, you guys are still division rivals. I don't think we've really held any hatred for the Bengals because they hadn't been competitive forever. The Ravens have been a pretty good matchup so far, so I think that helps fuel the rivalry aspect...

GG on Sunday...I really didn't know if we were gonna pull that one off.

I bet the NFL planned keeping us in the same division, creating much more than a simple division rivalry.

Oh it was no accident I'm sure...

I really wanted to be in the AFC South. Better WARMER away games! Whoever scheduled us Miami in December knew what they were doing.

Why? Did they want Miami to finally win a game?

I will have to say that I used to hold a grudge but, every grown person should be able to grow out of that. I would officially like to say the only grudge I really held was against modell. But I can not say that my other browns fans are not as civil and sadly grown up as most of us are.

i guess some are just a little slower at that particular process/development than others are....

you cannot change what happened....so why bother bringing the Subject up over and over, time and time again (like some of these Topics on this forum lol........There all basically the Same thing, or referring to the same subject) if you bring it up, you only get yourself all worked up and all angry about it, creating all sorts of problems for you and whoever else that may or COULD be invloved....so just push it aside and move on with life.
