Ind @ Bal - Week 11

26 posts in this topic

I only caught parts of the IND vs SF game, but it sure seemed that SF had the right idea in game planning for the Colts. Considering that we perennially have a rough time with Peyton and Co. I was wondering if there is anything we could take from that game and apply it to our own to help our chances in winning.

Anyone ideas?

I didn't watch the game but the best gameplan to beat Indy is to simple chew clock and score. The 9ers have some solid players in their secondary but I don't know they were able to prevent Manning from throwing a TD.

Game plan - no stupid PI calls.

We'll have to run up the score. This game could easily be a 50-48 game. Get enough pressure on Manning to make him feel the pressure. We'll take short dump off passes all day long. We can't give him any time. If he does, he'll pick us apart.

Pressure, points, and no stupid penalties. That's the gameplan. They are very beatable in our house.

Thats a good approach, but I dont think its the only thing. Miami had the ball for 45mins and lost to Peyton ;)

all those thing AND good play from the secondary. You know manning does not take a lot of sacks and he gets the ball out when he needs to so we're going to have to cover ALL DAY!

Yea, I don't see our corners being able to cover Manning and his passing threats when given time. That's why I left them out of my gameplan, instead we are going to need to step up our d-line pressure & tackling to a whole new level. Suggs needs to have a career game.

The only thing I'm hoping from our corners is not to commit costly PI calls.

Be up by more than 8 when we hit the 2:00 warning, should Manning and Co. have the ball... and no stupid penalties as Pu said... it wouldn't hurt to pound the rock with our 3-headed monster either; I think San Francisco abandoned the run too early.

I would still be scared if thats the case. I'd feel much more comfortable if we were up by 17 with 2 minutes. But I doubt this happens.

If we are going to win this game, it is going to come down to the last drive. Either we stop the Colts, our we drive the field and win.

Chewing clock and scoring on every possession isn't the only way to beat Indy but it's the best strategy in my opinion.

As for the DBs and LBs in coverage, I'm baffled sometimes at how bad some NFL players are in man coverage. It isn't easy to stay with your man and still play the ball when it's released but I can't count the number of times I've seen defenders looking at Manning whiles the player they're supposed to cover runs wide open. I'd much rather see a defender stick to his man and give up a spectacular grab than sneak a peep at Manning and let the player he was covering get open.

And also, playing zone against Peyton is an exercise in futility because someone will fine a hole in the zone and Manning will pick the D apart.

Wayne and Clark are great players but I don't see why the players on this defense can't keep up with them.

But with all that said, pressure is key. Whether it's delayed, overload or even corner blitz, the goal should be to hit Peyton every time he drops back.

Their run defense is disgusting so that should help quite a bit.

Yep. Flacco has proven he can win games for this team but I really hope Cam attacks their defense straight up the gut.

Pretty much we have to do what Miami did, but score TDs instead of FGs. Miami would have won that game if they could have made it into the endzone as opposed to stalling and kicking FGs. We have a much much much better passing game than Miami, so I can see this being no problem. Ed Reed has also been the bane of Peyton Manning in the past (he had 2 picks in the playoff game in 06), so a little Ed Reed magic won't hurt.

A Big Part of beating them will also be us in the stands! They like to run the no huddle so we need to be so loud that he can't even hear himself think. We can't get quiet if he gets a quick td.

Also pressure that’s the key in every game from here until the super bowl, that hit that Jarret Johnson laid on Orton I felt like we won the game on that play the first one of the game.

RUN RUN RUN some more, they could not tackle Gore and ray rice I think may be harder to tackle than gore in some ways smaller faster Gores obviously a little stronger but I think rice is even closing that gap

With the return of Bob Sanders though, their run D will no doubt improve... but that also means that there will be more 8-man fronts, opening up the outside and middle of the field... it will be up to our WR to make some plays if we want any shot at beating Indy.

Colts run defense this year is much better than in 2008 and that's without Bob Sanders. Colts are #17 in rushing defense so far this year.

As for the San Franisco game: The game score did look close but one reason is the 49ers defense were able to bend but not break so to speak. Ex Ravens kicker Stover had 4 field goals because of drives that stalled in the red zone. The 49ers were successfull allowing Indy just field goals and no TDs. The score could of been worse if Indy were able to punch a few TDs in.

Should be good game when they meet.

Colts have also blown teams out of the water, so its real tough to run when your down 21 at half.

I know the Colts have some good young DBs but I don't think any of them can slow down Kelley Washington or Heap working the middle.

Pressure Peyton to keep him from throwing the deep ball. Our offense, together with special teams need to captilize on every turn over that our defense forces. If not we will pay for it.

First of all, Peyton Manning gets AMPED for games against the Ravens. I truly believe he love playing us. And with the exception of one game in the playoffs, he usually embarrasses the Ravens defense. I don't think that will change this year.

BUT, for the first time ever... we have the offense that can outscore the Colts, and keep them off the field so they don't get into a rhythm. We might actually be able to limit them to less time of possession than the Dolphins did earlier this year.

ALSO, I've been thinking that perhaps we fans in the stands should not be loud that game? For some reason, I think that just helps the Colts because they still know what play they are running and the defense can't pick up on the audible signals.

Just a thought, but I figure it might be worth a try. If Ray and company can hear Peyton's audibles... they might figure out a pattern. This happened to Eli and the Giants a couple weeks ago. I know Peyton and the Colts offense is much more advanced that he Giants, but still... it might help. I don't see the Colts, as disciplined as their players are, false starting a whole lot because of crowd noise.

I think one of the biggest things the Ravens must do to defeat the Colts is.......is jump out to an early lead. The Ravens have never started fast in a game against the Colts. If we can start fast and score early that dictates the game.

This will sound strange, but we have to force Manning to throw the ball. Peyton loves to use the playaction to move the defense. However if we can jump out to a early lead, we can pretty much take the run option away and the playaction won't be as effective.

Now this is harder then it sounds. However it's possible to shut their run game down. The Colts top RB has rushed for 60 yards only 3 times in 7 games. So i can't see them being a threat running the ball.

However unless we jump out to an early lead, the playaction will still be a factor. The Colts has never trailed by more then 5 points in any game this season. The Ravens much change that.

On the Ravens side, we must jump out to a big lead to keep the Colts pass rush at bay. The Colts defense has been playing pretty well this season, but imo they haven't played a complete team yet. They have played some good offenses, they have played some good defenses. But i don't think one team on their schedule has be playing well on both sides of the ball.

The biggest thing that will go into the Ravens favor is that the Colts will be coming of a tough starstuded Sunday night game vs the Pats. That will be the toughest game the Colts will have up until that point. If the Pats can beat up on them, they could have a tough time matching the Ravens instensity at home.

I think this game will be good no matter what happens in the next 2 weeks, but this game won't mean nearly as much unless the Ravens take care of business with the Bengals and Browns.

Plan early!! Plan hard!!

Offense:

Give the ball to Ray Rice outside the hashes utilize he big play ability.
Give the ball to McClain inside the hashes to kill the weak interior.
Find the 1-on-1 match-up Safeties are strong but Corners on island are weak
Tackles must continue to play great against exceptional pass rushing DEs CONTAIN!!!

Defense:

Confuse Peyton with blitz packages and looks
Safeties must pass commit, make them beat us with the run

Hey guys I just simmed the rest of the Ravens season on whatifsports.com and in this game the Ravens led 27-14 with 8 mins left! Then Manning found Dallas Clark with 4:30 to go to make it 27-21. Then with 1:05 to go Joseph Addai ran for a 21 yard td to tie the game. Then the game winning point came on an extra point off the foot of........Matt Stover.

But won't Viniatieri be back by then? The Ravens finished 10-6 by the way with losses the rest of the way against the Colts, Packers, and Steelers in Pittsburgh.

I am so worried that its going to be something like 27-24 Ravens in the lead and we punt the ball to Manning with 1:30 left in the 4th with all his timeouts.

I can't take those anymore, I just can't.

This sounds wierd, I know, but I actually might agree. I watched a show where they were talking about the Ravens' success on the road, and one of the big things discussed was the fact that during an away game, the opponents' crowd is quiet, giving the defense the chance to make their own calls and adjust on the fly. I know it'll be impossible to get the fans to be quiet during that game (I know I'll be screaming like a mad man), but it definitely helps the D to make their own calls too. With that being said, I know our D plays alot off the crowd, so it'll be business as usual: blowing the doors off the joint!!! Go Ravens!!!

I'll watch it later and see what I can find, but from what it looked like, major pressure on Manning and a solid running game. I don't think San Fran had the offense to put enough space between them to hold on though, which we should be more equipped to do.
