Browns Hire Ernie Accorsi As New Gm?

8 posts in this topic

Per the National Football Post, the Cleveland Browns have reportedly hired former New York Giants GM Ernie Accorsi to fill the same position vacated by George Kokinis.

This move worries me, mainly because Accorsi was responsible for drafting Eli Manning, Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck, Brandon Jacobs, Matthias Kiwanuka, and other stars for the Giants today. He also helped construct the Giants squad that went to Super Bowl XXXV and lost to our Baltimore Ravens (but had one of the league's top offenses at the time), and was also instrumental in the Cleveland Browns' success in the mid-to-late '80s.

Accorsi was brought in largely due to his friendship with current Browns consultant (and former Browns QB) Bernie Kosar. I guess Randy Lerner wasn't being facetious when he said he was sick of losing...

good find franny. i agree with the analysis, too.. all i can say is "darn." maybe they'll actually draft where they're supposed to and take the BPA next year instead of trading back 474 times.

Its safe to assume that Mangini is done in Cleveland. As for the actual hire itself, good for them. I've got no problem with seeing the Browns get better because I am confident that we've got the personel to remain competitive for a long time.

On another note, does anybody else get nervous when other teams fire their GM? One of these days somebody is going to snath Decosta away from us and I am going to be very, very angry about it.

Cross ex-Giants GM Ernie Accorsi off the list of contenders to become the next leader of the Browns.

Accorsi told the Cleveland Plain Dealer he has no plans to join the team and is not advising team owner Randy Lerner right now.

"I am not taking any GM job anywhere. Period," Accorsi told the paper. "I am not taking any full-time job. I serve the league office as a consultant. I have consulted in various areas with four NFL clubs the past two years."

I could be wrong here, but didn't Accorsi go from the Browns to the Giants to begin with?

You are correct.

So, that means there is still a job opening for Decosta? No offense mod 3 but I liked Franny's report better. ;)
