Saints 2009 = Patriots 2007?

37 posts in this topic

Saints are on track to set the scoring record, after tonight they'll be averaging an amazing 40ppg+!!! Not only that but their defense is as good as its ever been, they are playing like Devils instead of Saints. Im sure the Browns would trade their entire offense for the Saints defense the way they've been scoring.

Anyways I couldn't help but think how similar they are to the '07 Patsies. Unstoppable passing, pretty good running games and aggressive defenses and so far through the first 7 games including tonights game they have been blowouts. The only real threats left on the Saints schedule is New England, Dallas, and Atlanta again (they are beating them 28-14 as I type this.) They've got both Dallas and NE at home, but other than that they've got a pretty easy schedule I really think theirs a chance they go 16-0 and into the Super Bowl.

As frightening as it may sound, I think the 2009 Saints are better than the 2007 Patriots.

07 Patriots were walking on thin ice with so many games, especially with not so good teams (Ravens).

None of the games the 09 Saints played have been down to the wire, they've been blasting through opponents and if they keep this up, you're looking at a straight Superbowl domination, I don't care who it is.

I like the Patriots vs Saints match up in these upcoming weeks, I think the Pats will be defending their undefeated record in 07.

through the first 7 games, the Pats beat actually beat their opponents by more points per game, 23 points to the Saints 17 (279-120 compared to the Saints 273-154).

I have a funny feeling about the Panthers though, they are wildly inconsistent but when their two all star RB's get going they can beat virtually any team.

As Sub-Zero said, the Pats dominated their early games as well. But I think as you go deeper and deeper into the season undefeated, the target on your chest gets bigger and the pressure mounts which is why the Pats played some close games in second half of 07. The same will happen to the Saints. They'll get a few tough challenges in the second half even against teams that dont appear to be nearly as good as the Saints. Like when we nearly(and should have)beaten the Pats in 07, it was more or less our Super Bowl so we played our hearts out.

An awesome matchup to see would be 07 Patriots taking on the 09 Saints.

Or better yet, the 00 Ravens taking on the 09 Saints. I honestly don't know how that would come out, the shut out defense and the high scoring offense would cancel each other out causing the universe to tear into 3 pieces.

The Saints are pretty lucky with their schedule. I don't want to claim the Saints are better than the 2007 Patriots until they can go on the road during december in cold cities and win. Luckily for them, their road games at the end of the season are at Carolina, Falcons (dome), Washington and Tampa Bay. So they won't get to prove themselves here. They should get homefield advantage.

If the Saints schedule was different, and they had to go to Philly, New York and Buffalo during December. I think they would struggle.

Saints have a pretty easy road to the Superbowl. With a lot of dome games.

Sean Payton is a good coach but he's not Belichick. I like the Saints and I want to see them do well but I also dont think their passing offense can travel as well as the Pats did in 07. Being a dome team has its own limitations but the reason Brady and the Pats were able to pass in all types of weather was because of the conditions they play in at Foxboro. I dont think the Saints can go to NY, NE, or any north eastern city late in the season and win.

They're going to Washington (Landover, Maryland), Atlanta, and Carolina in December, so they're not going to have to worry about that too much. Barring a serious meltdown, they will also have home field advantage in the playoffs.

not to mention the Super Bowl will be held in Raymond James Stadium. More warm breeze for the Saints and Drew Brees :ICONATOR_01040da29c18a4eed76047

Because of their cake walk schedule for the rest of the year. And them playing all playoff games in a dome/warm weather. The Saints will be hard to stop.

But I do not think they are better than the 07 Pats. Because of the reasons why Neepo stated. I need to be able to see the Saints play tough teams in the elements. Especially the cold. But that won't happen this year.

Their offense is just as good as the 2007 Patriots, and they also give up big plays on defense like the Patriots did. The only difference I see is that the Saints defense makes up for it by scoring on defense, which makes them better than the 2007 Pats.
I still think they lose a game or 2, but that still doesn't mean the Pats were better. At the end of the year, its all about who gets the championship.

8 down 8 to go! how about two 16-0 teams?  :sohappy:

If they both meet in the Superbowl. Then there will be no doubt about a perfect season!

I think they are better.

Brady to Moss or Welker was the only thing New England really had. Brees has sooooooo many weapons!
(He makes them good weapons unlike the weapons making him COUGHTOMBRADYCOUGH)

The defense is amazing.

They are a more complete team than the Pats. They just need to work on that run defense since Ellis is out.

The Super Bowl is being held in Miami at the Dolphins stadium. Raymond James is the Bucs' stadium. But yea.

huge showdown! Pats @ Saints as you all know. Pats trying to defend their undefeated 16-0 mark, I'll tell you this much. If the Saints win this one they are going 16-0

Possibly, maybe even probably, but no necessarily. They could easily fall prey to the trap games. Do you remember how close the Atlanta game was? They still have to play them on the road, and isn't this the team that almost lost to the Rams? That almost could easily become "did" at some point.

I still think Vikings are team to beat in the NFC no disrespect to the Saints but Brett has those receivers confident and that dude named Adrian Peterson

Sharper missed the Rams game, and Sedrick Ellis is returning for the first time since the Miami game. Ellis doesn't put up big numbers but he is their number one run stuffer and during his absence they have been abused on the ground.

I Think That Both Teams Have A Good Chance There Both Good Teams And Some People Say Drew Brees Is Almost The Same As Tom Brady I Say No Because Tom Bready Has More Experance Than Drew Brees

16-0 here they come! McKenzie played like he was in the Super Bowl, I was so impressed with him last night. And I think they get Jabari Greer next week who is actually their top cover corner. Things just get better for New Orleans

Imagine if the Ravens somehow went to the Super Bowl against the Saints... I feel sorry for two-hand touch Foxworth lol. We would get blown out 52-10.

Nonsense. Did you see the run defense in NO? Rice would smoke them, Willis would run over them, and the McClain train would just destroy them.

Darren Sharper and company may think they're impressive for having the most interceptions in the league, the fewest passing touchdowns scored, the 2nd lowest passer rating, made a future HOF'er look silly, and all that other stuff, but they wouldn't know what hit them when Joe Flacco was done with them.

And really, Drew Brees verses Ed Reed (he does cover 1/3 of the earth after all) and the unstoppable tackling machine, Dawan Landry? The game would be clinched when Chris Carr (who's been saving himself for a big game) played shut down on both Colston and Shockey.

Those Who Dats wouldn't stand a chance. B)
