Slick

Ray Rice

64 posts in this topic

So I jokingly said a few weeks ago during the skid that maybe we'd have pulled out a couple more wins if we'd just given Ray Rice the ball every snap. I think I thought about this after seeing him play against Cincinnati. Since that game he's continued to improve and show the nfl that he's a monster. Considering the impact he's had in almost every game this year I gotta say that maybe I was right. I mean obviously no one person can carry an entire team but lets be honest here, the guy is leading the league in all purpose yards and is a threat on damn near every play where he gets his hands on the ball. Not only can he find tiny holes in the line and burst through them, but he's able to make some really tough catches and use his elusiveness to keep drives alive. If he continues to have this sort of year then I would go as far as to say that his name should be mentioned in the MVP race along with Flacco. I doubt Rice would take MVP in the end since QBs are the sexier choice in most instances but still, the guy deserves to at least be mentioned.
This year i was loving the idea of having our 3-headed monster again, but after this season I really don't see the need to pay for Willis anymore. Rice can be a 3 down back, and the runners behind him shouldnt be paid as much as Willis is to stand in when he needs to catch his breath. I like McGahee and what hes helped this team accomplish but I think its Ray's time now. Ship Willis to a team who really needs him, and get some picks in return. That can be his final contribution to the Ravens since I really don't see him being as big of an impact player for us as he used to be.
Anyway, today was a great day to be a Ravens fan. After the insanity of this weekend it was nice to relieve my hangover with a W. Hope everybody had a great Halloween and next week lets see our Ravens pay back the Bungles ten-fold for embarassing us in our home.

Ray Rice is a weapon because he uses his height to his advantage, it looks as if he is running at 4'8 and when you got our O-Line at like 6'8 it is a nightmare for LBs to try and locate him.

I don't see why you think hes a good player. Rice is the most underrated rookie RB of all time, and hes short. Meaning he will never amount to anything... ever. I mean hes short, a manlet and it spells no hope ever. Hes short. Short. Anything he does is invalid because hes short, and got lucky. A couple more inches on Rice he would be reliable but hes Short and that means we can't rely on him EVER. We need players who can hit the holes. Personally, I think we should let Chris Carr run the ball since he does a wonderful job following the "holes" in the back of teammates jerseys. And, hes a couple inches taller and that means hes a good player.

We weren't doing Rice...I mean Shaft?

Rice is definitely a positive addition to this team. A double threat piece of awesomeness.

Macbrak was just finishing the "Shaft Dialogue" that the three of us built.

Yeah no doubt his height is beneficial. But I mean his other traits are what really make him special. He hits the hole fast and has great balance to shed through tacklers. Hes small, but those legs got power too. Ive seen him move piles numerous times this year and I expect him to keep doing that. Add to this the ability to get down field and make some nice catches and I think you have a player worth hanging on to for a looooong long time.

Rice is exactly what we needed in the backfield (and I say that as a big fan of McGahee). The man does hit the holes. He explodes through, and is very good at keeping himself balanced and upright (even if he needs to steady himself with a hand on the field, almost like a three point stance). Even in a crowd, there's always a chance he's going to wiggle out and break into the open field. His speed is a major asset, despite his "short" size.

That's not even mentioning his receiving abilities. Did you see the one handed catch he made in a crowd of Broncos? Or how about the shovel pass from Flacco (who was under all kinds of pressure) that turned into a huge gain, with him slipping around the defense?

Yes, Rice is short, but the man put on muscle and has the kind of speed and talent you want in the backfield. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he leads the NFL in all purpose yards. He's really turning into a safety blanket for Flacco when it starts to hit the fan.

It's not that he's "not good" anymore. He proved earlier in the season that he still has it. The problem (for McGahee at least) is that Rice is developing quickly and by leaps and bounds, in both the rushing and receiving department. Since he's becoming so valuable to the offense, his playtime is going to increase while McGahee's, naturally, decreases. I'm sure McGahee is still going to get touches, and he'll still gain yardage (you can't say he doesn't have it anymore just because he had like 2 rushes for -1 yard today). Honestly, I'd like to keep him around, he's still solid, and when given more time in, he can be that touchdown machine he was earlier this year.

However, Rice is just becoming too important to our success, sadly for McGahee. So he might be on borrowed time in Baltimore, which I'd hate, but... it happens. I'll still support him no matter where he goes (that doesn't rhyme with Mittsburgh or Rincinnati, and yes, I know neither team has a need for him).

Today you look at Flacco and Rice back there and think, wow, we are set for years to come at those positions. Both played very well against a tough defense, huge credit to both for their performances!

The versatility of Ray Rice cannot be understated. The patience, instictiveness for holes, cutting ability, receiving skills, pass blocking... he is a bonafide pro bowler.

Agreed, its not like Willis sucks now, it's just that Rice is freakishly good now. With a beast like him behind Flacco, we shouldn't be paying a whole bunch of money to his backup.

But, seriously, when was the last time MCGahee had a rush for over 3 yards?
Yeah, it's weird... Willis seemed to have bought real estate in the end zone since he was there so often the first 3 weeks, and then he's just disappeared.

Willis may have racked up the scores for the first three games but it was Ray Rice getting us down the field. Ray has been in there from the start. Harbaugh knows what he has in Rice, that is why he is our starter. I keep hearing that Willis would have more yards if he were to get more carries. How can you take the ball out of one of the hottest running backs hands in the league? You cant. WMs days will be numbered come the end of the season. There isnt really any sense in keeping a highly paid back up. We still have a lot more talent in our other running backs.

Should the Ravens win the division/make the playoffs, Rice has got to get MVP consideration, along with Flacco of course...

They should definitely be in the running, but knowing the NFL, Peyton Manning will win for the 68th time. Rice and Flacco have got to be in the running for Pro Bowl though, especially Rice. #1 Running Back in Total Yards.

Re: Manning... his team is undefeated, and he's putting up ridiculous numbers yet again, with receivers named Garcon and Collie (and that guy Wayne too). Can't overlook that.

Please read the posts. When someone says "It LOOKS AS IF he's runnin at 4'8"" it means he's playing even smaller than he's listed. Reason he's saying that is because he hides even more than the other "shorties" (MJD type backs) and runs low.

We all know he's not actually 4'8"

I see he's getting the carries now, but why wasn't Rice the goal line back in the first place? I mean what's harder than tackling someone with such a low centre of gravity and so strong?
