Rep System

45 posts in this topic

So I like the idea of it, but I thought of this idea to make it even better. The other day i accidentally rated someones post as a - and really didnt even mean to. i wanted to either un-rate it or change it to a + cuz the post wasnt even bad but i couldnt. is there any way to make it so that if you rate a post, you can re-rate it and cancel out your original rating, just to avoid stupid instances like the one I just described?

yeah i like the idea behind it. definitely helps in recognizing trolls and such. anyway, with all the changes being made to the boards its only logical to expect little flaws here and there. all the work that goes into these boards is definitely appreciated though, otherwise i wouldnt even waste the time to bring this up lol.

i personally hope that the system is gone, people are getting undeserved neg rep and dont understand what the rep system is about.

I mean i am too scared to start a thread saying "Haloti Ngata is playing like crap" because it would be rep hell. The system needs to go IMO as people dont understand that if you dont agree you dont have to neg rep it.

just my 0.02 from an experienced person here on the boards

What ya'll need to understand it means NOTHING. We think some of the neg reps are coming from people that just go down the line and neg rep people.

I completely agree. It's just a waste of server space; eliminate the dumb thing.

They have not scrapped it yet but this is now in the CoC:
Although the Baltimore Ravens New Media Team is committed to upholding the code of conduct at all times, due to the number of members participating and the high volume of traffic, it is impossible for us to view every posted message. Therefore, our staff has empowered the general membership with the ability to assist our staff by calling potential violations to our attention.

One way users can help in the moderation of the Ravens Forums is to use the Forums' Reputation system.

Beside each post are green plus and red minus buttons.

The use of these buttons is intended for instances in which you feel a user's comment is intelligent, well-thought out, original or interesting (a "+" rating) or, if you feel a particular post breaks a rule listed in the Code of Conduct (spam, foul language, personal attacks, etc.) or does not constructively contribute to the overall discussion (a "-" rating). Users are limited to giving one rating per post.

Additionally, plus and minus ratings on individual posts will be applied toward a user's overall reputation on the Ravens Forums. The system is designed to identify the users who consistently post quality material on the boards. Individuals' reputations can be viewed underneath the avatar on a user's profile page.

Users are limited to giving 50 "plus" ratings and 2 "negative" ratings in a 24 hour period
As Moderator 2 knows, I am one of the people who received a -11 poor reputation and I wasn't happy about it. It completely surprised me. Perhaps I am one of the people who were randomly selected ?

I am moving on from being upset about it. I just do not see the need to rate any one on this forum.

To me moderators are paid ( I think) to moderate. If something is out of line, delete the post or thread and send a private pm. But to have a random reputation system stinks.

I usually don't give negative reps. But the other day I was just reading stupid (unrelated) after stupid (pointless) posts. And I was disappointed when it said I reached my max.

I thought to myself "This person got lucky - because he deserves a -1, another time and another place"

The Media team and others debated this issue for about 10 days and this is what they came up with, hopefully there are less hurt feelings and it also disables the mad neg reppers before they can get going.

Too bad we don't have a system like another forum I post at does. If 10 unique members give someone a negative rating it suspends their account for 24 hours.

You get these trolls who show up and within an hour they're suspended. Essentially lets the forums moderate themselves to a certain degree. If it comes up that people are abusing the system they're warned, and if they abuse it again they're banned.

so you are suppose to get positive rep if you make an intelligent or thought out post.
Hmm thats interesting as it seems that people use it only if they agree or disagree which is silly. I do a lot of well though out posts and dont get positive rep. I suppose thats the way the cookie crumbles lol

That was SUPPOSED to be how this work but half the board would have banned the other half of the board and there would be no posters left. They were implementing it a piece at a time for the blogs but it death spiraled .

What did you say? It must have been uncalled for or a outrageous opinion... I think there should be 5 negative reps per day by the way!

The 2 neg-reps per day limit has been fine, as far as I've seen. I haven't personally gotten any complaints about the system since the limits have been put in place. People haven't been abusing them nearly as much.

The only problem with that is it discourages people from expressing their opinions when what they have to say is unpopular. Just because someone has an unpopular opinion doesn't mean it shouldn't be expressed.

People didn't get the original concept of using it to get rid of trolls, so because of that, the system was adjusted accordingly. Rather than a moderation tool, it's a community tool now. I don't care for it either way, but it's never been my call. The people who've complained to us about it, know that.

so if they mean nothing...why have them?

many cats are afraid to speak out or start threads that may be viewed as "negative" towards the Ravens on these boards which is ridiculous imo. everything here isn't going to be positive and everyone here don't have the same views about the games and teams performance and we should be able to agree or disagree. we are fans!

It wasn't our call ("our," meaning the Moderators) -- it was a feature suggested by the company that hosts the message board and licenses the software, and approved by our New Media team. It's a part of the social-networking features implemented on the board during its last major upgrade.

okay so i just made this post a few hours ago and look at it. It is well thought out and interesting and yet it has no positives next to it when a guy that said "grass is green" in the Ed Reed is important thread got +6 last time i checked. this is why the rep system is silly IMO when i make very long well thought out posts and dont get the rep others do for one lined answers.
i will be the first to admit this wasnt cousins best game however Lamar Woodely and the pittsburgh 3-4 defense is the toughest matchup in the league for a RT. You have no idea whos coming and woodley is the best 3-4 rush LOLB in the NFL.

Cousins did a very good job on running plays once again. he really is a great run blocker and just needs to work on his technique for pass protection. Remember when we drafted him he had only played one season at tackle. Its a learning process for him and i thought he did quite well. Sure he got beat a few times however oher got beat a few times by Cousins in the first meeting and no one mentioned that like this. Cousins is still a work in progress and this is jsut a learning experience for him. As for the penatly on him that put us out of FG range, sure it was annoying that we missed out on an oppurtunity to get 3 points but mason dropped a TD. Washington made a stupid hold ans suggs made a dumb play that cost us 7 a guaranteed 7 points. Even though we missed out on a POSSIBLE 3 points i actually liked what cousins did. It shows that he plays with a mean streak and i really like that about him. I was upset he did it but i liked it if you understand what i mean lol.

Also i would much rather have Cousins playing in the game than have yanda at RT and chester at RG. Yanda played like an All-Pro yesterday and is playing amazing football at guard. He is one of the best guards in football at the moment and looks to be 100% healthy and has found the form he had before the injury. Yanda needs to stay at guard as he is a monster. With Cousins and Yanda on the line the entire line is amazign at run blocking and Chester is a liability in both run and especially pass plays.

So to sum it up. Cousins did pretty badly against one the best 3-4 LOLB backer and the toughest defensive schemes to figure out in pass protection but was great agaisnt the run and played with a mean steak which i loved. The guy is still young and learning so no need to throw him under the bus yet.

It is a well thought out post Kia. But when your subject matter is defending Onel you're not going to have many takers.

Don't worry about the rep system. Personally I don't use the Rep system unless. 1) The poster makes me laugh +1 or 2) It's something to stupid to comprehend -1

That's not a problem exclusive to the reputation system -- that's a problem rampant all throughout the internet. Many people don't read long, thought-out posts because of their short attention spans, unfortunately.
