Congratulation you have made a wise decision to get into following the NFL and to root for a tough and proud team like the Baltimore Ravens. I truly believe that you cannot get a real sense of our team without learning about our city. The players are representatives of the great and historic city of Baltimore. The Baltimore harbor was where the Star Spangled Banner, our country's national Anthem, was written. Baltimore is known as a blue collar town that loves hard work, but also enjoys a great party. We are big into sailing and seafood. Some of the people here take sailing as serious as they take football.

Our road has not been an easy one, but filled full of adversity and hardships. We once had a great team known as the Baltimore Colts who are famous for for winning the 1958 World Championship. It was the first ever National Football League game to go into sudden death overtime. The final score was Baltimore Colts 23, New York Giants 17 and still known to this day as "The Greatest Game Ever Played." Later down the road the Colts were stolen from us in the middle of the night when the owner sold the team to Indianapolis, hence the current Indianapolis Colts you see today. Baltimore stayed in a footballess limbo for 12 long long years with no team until we got the owner of the Cleveland Browns to move his team to Baltimore. We wanted our own identity so we changed the name and the colors. We took a state wide vote and selected the "Baltimore Ravens" after the famous Baltimore writer Edgar Allen Poe's story "The Raven".

Learn about Johnny Unitas. He is a football legend and a state treasure so much we put a bronze statue of him in front of our stadium. He wore the jersey #19 which is why you will never EVER see a Raven wear the #19 jersey.

To get a good feel of our emotional history you should watch the documentary of "The Band That wouldn't Die". It's a fantastic movie that accurately describes how Baltimore lost the old Baltimore Colts and gained the new Baltimore Ravens. I think it will help you to get a sense of the strong football culture here and why we have such a deep and passionate love for our team. I also think you would enjoy our victories even more if you know the team's background, which will make you the best and loudest fan there.

Hello all this is my first post on this board, although I been reading it for a while now. Great post T-Sizzle55. Lets not leave out though that Johnny U. along with other great BALTIMORE COLTS players broke all ties with the team after they moved, refusing to participate in any of their events and celebrations, even though their history and records are still a part of the Indianapolis Colts to this day and many of them still live in the area today and show up to Ravens games for events.

To: Fan_Down_Under
Also the part 1 that T-Sizzle55 posted has almost 10 minutes, and a very important 10 minutes about the events of how the Colts moved, missing from the beginning of it.

There is part 1 in it's entirety. Watch that first then his part one after it. there's like 2 minutes of overlapped material between the 2 but this way you get to see the entire program.

Great choice picking the Ravens!!! I do have a question for you. What was it that made you choose the Ravens out of all 32 teams? Just curious, I'd love to see an "outsider's" view of our organization, and what it was that enticed you to become a fan of the greatest football team in the land... Welcome aboard, and get ready for a long and beautiful relationship with the Ravens!!! Have a G'day!!!!

Howdy y'all! hahaha :P

Cheers for the video links, Im about to get right on those and learn more!! I agree its important to learn about the back ground etc, Im not just in it to follow beind and watch the team, I want to get right in there and support the Ravens 100% from now on through thick and thin, and Really become a welcome member of the flock!!!

:D :D :D

and too NgataHavinIt:

I really don't know haha, I knew I wanted to start following the NFL as Ive had a dormant interest for a while, but I decided to finally persue it properly. I looked at all of the team logo's at first and tried to follow my gut, the Ravens was my first pick of about 3 or 4, and then read up a little about each and their stats etc that I could understand, and in the end, still a 90% gut feeling was the ravens! So I dont know to tell the truth, kinda just drawn
in, Im glad I was too!!

I remember when I became a fan back in 2006 , I watched a Ray Lewis highlight movie on youtube on Ray Jones Jr masterpiece "Can't be touched" . The music made the clip twice as intense ...oh man , memories...choosing the Ravens to cheer for was the best decision in my whole life :D

The best way to learn is really just to watch. You eventually learn how things go. At least with penalties they're explained by the referees. Football isn't hugely complicated when you grow to love it.

I paid $340 so I can watch every Ravens game and all other games I feel like through NFL Game Pass. I'd recommend it, otherwise you may see the team two or three times a year which quite frankly, is not enough to get into football or learn it.

Heyt everyone, thank you all for your help so far, Ive teken everything into account and read pretty much everything that;s been sent my way! Plus Ive searched around a bit more as well.

RAVENS WON! RAVENS WON!! HAHA GO TEAM! :P

I was unfortunately unable to watch the game today (4 am here and not aired) but Im working on the suggestions Ive recieved from others about paying to watch online, I think thats the way ill go, just havent been able to get around to it yet, but I did keep up with the scores as often as a I could and was yelling at the compiter loudly since I had to be up at that time any way!! :P haha.

I also did watch about6 half of the 46ers vs Colts game, as it was 1 of the 2 they aired here this morning, so I picked up a few different bits and pieces.

Gotta love that 20 yard throw to Mason for that touchdown in the 4th quarter, was able to watch a couple of highlights so far hehe :P

Thanks again!! and GO RAVENS!

I would go with the NFL's package, as Bmore suggested. You get alot more bang for your buck, especially seeing as you get Total Access and Playbook. Both of those will keep you up to date on the NFL and help you learn a thing or two about the game.

Which package in particular are you referring to?

NFL Game Pass's Ravens Season, since I'm in the US, I cannot freely investigate the deals of Game Pass. However, Bmore said you get all the Ravens games along with Total Access, America's Game, Gameday, and Playbook for around $80. That sounds like something I'd go for if I were outside of north america.

I have NFL Rewind, which is alot like Game Pass, only you cannot watch the game live. It's blacked out until 11:59pm eastern. I use it so I can watch the games that aren't televised here. I love the program though, the picture is sharp, and looks great on my laptop. So if the picture quality itself is like that of Game Pass, you can't go wrong.

Hmm, maybe that'd be the way to go, is it cheaper to use? The amount of games Id be able to watch live would be limited, but id be able to watch tem a couple hours later whern Im actually awake :P

Yeah, Rewind is US only and Pass is basically anywhere outside of North America. It's due to the licensing and contracts the NFL has in North America.

How we lookin for the Bengals this week? I know it's a bit more rivalry in the same division right?

I think we're looking good, yeah huge rivalry game. Our boys will be fired up to exact revenge for the embarassing and injury-riddled loss at M&T.

We will bottle up Benson and really get after Palmer. I look for discipline to be the order of the day; as penalties ruined us last time we played. I'll say Ravens win 33-17.

Yeah, I think we're going to be fine against the Bengals. I'm hoping Webb gets more time on both Special Teams and Defense after the game against Denver. In my opinion, he's the best option we have for a nickel back, and bumping him up would bump (naturally) both Carr and Walker down the depth chart, which is a good idea. I've never liked Walker, and despite how physical he plays, he draws too many PI calls..

The game is going to largely depend on which defense shows up. If Fox and Fab play like their did sunday, then Palmer and Eight-Five are going to have a rough day. Benson would end up being the biggest challenge, but I think even that will be contained. The guys on defense had to have seen how effective and dominate they were when they play hard-nose, disciplined football, which has to be an addictive feeling.

The feeling of the defense being a humongous and central part to such a big win should give them a huge boost, which should carry on to the following weeks. Like I've said though, Cincy has been better on the road then at home this year, so I think our chances are pretty good to walk away with a win.

I got faith, already!!! lol, now that their defense is back to what it should be, there's no reason to go backwards, just step it up another notch and keep winning! Says me who's still got next to no idea ^_^

I have no problem being the team that knocks other teams back to the ground when their heads are sky high after some wins. As long as we keep winning, that is.

Good to see three New Zealand fans and at least two Australian fans here now. Purple and Black being represented throughout the South Pacific!!!
