Where Was Rhys Lloyd?

16 posts in this topic

If he was activated Cribbs wouldn't have been a factor.

And if you would've ran the ball on 2nd and 3rd and 1 there wouldn't be no time on the clock. But instead you pass yet again.

Thanks Billick.

Yeah thats wasnt the smartest thing in the world. He should have atleast ran it on 3rd down and let the clock run down. Its not like they didnt have a time out left. Worst case scenario, is Matt misses the kick and you go into over time. But despite that this game was ours. That damn ref was not supposed to review that play. It was non reviewable. I am so mad right now.

I agree that Lloyd would have helped. Even though Stover had that one touchback, Cribbs ran it back on us all day.

people people. stover had nothing to do with cribbs running the ball back like that, its called, missed tackles...the special teams allowed all that yardage. rhys lloyd isnt some super hero kicker, had a few good kicks in preseason, and then when it counted, he completly flubbed the opening kickoff in the steelers game. stover did have a few shorter then normal kicks but the special teams allowed cribbs to keep running the ball back not stover.

Stover Today:

1- kicks 67 yards cribbs ran back 32 yds starts on 35

2- kicks 58 yards cribbs ran back 24 yds starts on 36

3- kicks 60 yards cribbs ran back 35 yds starts on 45

4- kicks 63 yards cribbs ran back 50 yds starts on bal 43

5- kicks 70yds touchback

6- kicks 72 yards cribbs ran back 24 yds starts on 22

7- kicks 66 yards cribbs ran back 39 yds starts on 43

8- kicks 70 yards cribbs ran back 41 yds starts on 41

Stover ranks 14th in the league in kickoff avg at 64.6 putting on avg at the 5, the number one guy in the leagus avg is 68.9. a difference of only 5 yards. Today's problem was we couldnt stop cribbs running it back, especially that OT kick return, stover put it at the goalline, and the special teams gave them the ball at the 41.

I'm definately not trying to get you mad, but...

for one, i think that 5 yards really means a lot of difference. I mean, 2 little more yards and he will be surrenduring for a touchback. Also, Rhys Lloyd is waaaaay better than any other kickers in terms of power. he makes the returners start from the 20 every time.

I also think that maybe the Ravens should have tried a squibb kick after they took the lead late. They could still have gotten a pretty deep kick but you stop Cribbs from handling it right away. He has to stop and pick up the ball and by that time there are enough players up field to try to stop him. And the blockers cant give him the crease that they were able to give him. But poor tackling played a big part in it.

Rhys LLoyd did kickoffs for the steelers game (his NFL debut), and didnt get a touchback either time. He kicked it to the 14 his first kick, and the second kick went the 16 (but would have been the 1 except we had a penatly and kicked from the 15). So Rhys Lloyd isnt automatic touchback everytime.

Like i said the best kickoff avg in the league kicks it to the 1 yd line on avg. stover on avg to the 5.

The ravens averaged giving up 24yards per kickoff return up til yesterday. Cribbs averaged 35 yards a return yesterday....

All that being said, I like rhys and he should turn out to be a good kicker BUT he isnt that much of improvement over stover. Yesterdays problem was we gave up extra 11 yards per return!

Yes, thats true, but I mean Rhys Lloyd needs to learn the game...and he definately does have a stronger leg in kickoff. And when doing kickoffs, a strong leg is needed moreso than accuracy for most situations. I mean, just kick it down field, you dont need that much accuracy to not kick it out of bounds. But anyways, Rhys only had 2 chances to kickoff, and only after 2, he got pulled out? I mean, yes it was not impressive, but he still needs a chance to progress and he will turn out to be another Matt Stover eventually with time.

He was activated for the steelers game cuz Stover had a strained leg. So wasnt really a demotion/promotion. Rhys is on our roster in case stover goes down one week he can play the next week. Rhys is usually inactive for games but was available yesterday.

"Ravens players who are inactive: cornerback Samari Rolle, safety Gerome Sapp, offensive tackle Jared Gaither, tight end Daniel Wilcox, wide receiver Demetrius Williams, defensive tackle Edgar Jones. Steve McNair is listed as the third quarterback."

i'm looking at the official team roster & rhys isn't on it, he must have been cut at some point to activate matt willis.

I'm thinking somewhere around the point where matt willis and Edgar Jones were re-signed, thats when rhys got released. But I think its the creators and modifiers of [not this message board] the site itself that are too lazy to make a change.
