C'mon Man!

Alright, this is merely just for fun and no way do I think Ozzie Newsome is a bad guy or a bad GM. But list players we could have gotten instead of a certain bust we got.

Examples:
In 2007, we took Yamon Figurs over Mike Sims-Walker.

In 2005, we took Mark Clayton when Aaron Rodgers and Roddy White were still on the board.

Remember, let's just try to make this fun and not make the thread into a whine fest or anything like that. Obviously with some of these we wouldn't of known they would be the stars that they are or the duds that we got until after the draft but still, what are yours?

Ouch here is another one.

It's easy to question the decisions an GM makes several years down the line. However, for all the bad moves Ozzie has made during his tenure, he's made a lot of damn good ones too. Look at the most recent draft. Everyone(including myself) wanted a receiver or corner. While there were some good ones on the board when the Ravens had to pick, they got a steal with Michael Oher. Not only does the guy play RT, he can line up as a LT. How many teams in the league have a rookie like that?

With all that said, David Pittman in the 3rd round in 2006 has to be one of the worst picks in Ravnes history.

2004 NFL Draft - instead of DE Roderick Green in the 5th round, we could've drafted RB Michael Turner, who was taken immediately with the very next pick by the Chargers. Granted, we already had Chester Taylor and Musa Smith, and we were counting on Jamal Lewis still being as good as he was in 2003 with his 2,000-yard season, but it would've been nice to have that luxury, given that Taylor would leave for the Vikings only two years later.

The thread's not about questioning GM decisions -- it's just hypotheticals. Kind of like, "OH MAN, in retrospect, look who we could've taken instead!"

All in good fun. :)

In all fairness to the GM's in the league: Just because someone did well/poorly on one team, doesnt mean that he would have done well/poorly on another. A lot of players success comes from the system/team they were drafted by. If Calvin Johnson on the Lions was drafted by the Colts, the dude would average 1800 yards and 20 TD's a year.

Id say shawn smith of the dolphins. Over paul kruger, but thats only because of the need at cb and kruger in between practice squad and real team

Instead of Boller we coulda had our pick from McGahee, Dallas Clark, Nnamdi Asomugha, Rashean Mathis, Osi Umenyora or Boldin to name a few.

Love Jarret Johnson but in 2003 4th round we could have drafted Asante Samuel. Right now at least Samuel would be more helpful. You're still the man Jarret.

2000 Draft - instead of Travis Taylor coulda had Shaun Ellis, John Abraham, Bubba Franks, Deltha O'Neal, Julian Peterson, Shaun Alexander or Keith Bulluck.
Ozzie or whoever is in charge of these WR picks needs to be barred from making any further decisions on WR's since none of them seem to pan out.

The Ravens could've drafted Brandon Marshall in 2006. Instead they went with Demetrius Williams.

Obviously Marshall's legal troubles scared teams away but with considering Williams doesn't have 100 catches in his career and Marshall has had two 100+ catch seasons, I would take Marshall.

How about in 2006's 7th round we could have drafted Marques Colston instead of Ryan LaCasse. Ryan Who?!

Wow...

Peterson would be awesome in our current 4-3 scheme, dude is so athletic and strong for his size. Bullock is another guy who has been a rock solid LB for the past 8 years.

Thats just disgusting those names. Not only that the Pats took Wilfork the next year with our pick...a pro bowl DT.

As disgusting as that is, if we didn't draft Boller its unlikely we would have needed/wanted to draft Flacco. So you take the good with the bad in this case.

2006 was the year. People forget that despite being on the field for so long, that D actually shut down Peyton. I still can't believe the final score was 15-6.

Ya no doubt, McNair kinda fell apart that game and Jamal somehow didnt run all over the Colts front 7. 5 FGs and 0 TDs against Peyton Manning is beyond solid. The beat down that we would have laid down on the Bears would have been reminiscing of the beatdown we laid on the Giants in 2000.

I remember Jamal running very well but Billick abandoned the run despite the Colts being ahead by only a few points.
[/quote]
He averaged 4ypc, which is obviously not bad but nothing special either. I pictured him running for well over 120 before that game though and just demolishing Gary Bracketts fat self.

If we didn't get Boller we woulda ended up snagging Shaub in the next years or year after - which ever one he was in, and that wouldnt be too bad shape if you ask me. Of course we all have a man crush on Flacco now and wouldn't trade him for the world.
