What Are You Good At?

60 posts in this topic

I started a thread similar to this on another forum so I thought I'd put one here too. I'm just curious as to what you are good at? What hobby do you have that you're better than the average person at?

For me, it's bowling. I currently average 209 in my league and have been bowling since I was 14. Last night I shot my 3rd 300 game in league play and couldn't be happier about it. I've had one 800 series in my lifetime and have done numerous tournaments locally. It's something that I feel I could maybe pursue it on a higher level but honestly, I enjoy it as it is now and want to keep it fun.

So what about you?

I like all forms of music really but I especially like electronica type stuff... like Daft Punk, Fedde le Grande, Dirty South, Groove Armada, Basement Jaxx and many many others. I got into it about a year ago maybe but I really really like it. I'm going to see VNV Nation Wednesday night which should rock.

This went from a hobbies topic to a music topic real fast.

Anyway, I do enjoy bowling, although I haven't been in quite a while. When I'm playing a good bit, I usually average around 150. I also like to make short films once in a while with some friends, only if I get a really good idea for one. I listen to music for older people (60's and 70's.) I also try to play a pickup game of football with some friends at least once a week.

Well...let's see...

I'm good at writing. Period. Like, that's why I chose English as my major (even though I didn't expect to pull so many all-nighters on papers...but comes with the territory).

Because of my writing skills, I used to do a little poetry on the side (but if you'd ask me to show you one of my poems, I honestly wouldn't know where to find one since they've legitimately gone missing).

Then that interest in poetry parlayed into an interest in rapping in 8th grade.

When someone finally told me that I sucked my freshman year, I made myself improve. So...I taught myself the basics of verse construction, counting bars, storytelling elements, punchlines, intros & closers, etc.

And then I upgraded to recording (or, rather, DOWNGRADED, since my recording quality SUCKS), and now I'm back at square one since I've been too busy with papers to even finish writing any songs.

Oh, and there's this little Baltimore Ravens message board that's been keeping me busy in-between classes, too. That's been hurting my creativity. Stupid forums. Never did nothing for ME. Well, except put me in the press box.

I'm in the IB program...but i hate it (is that even something that im good at?)

I'm ok at hitting in baseball

Im one of the best at being a loyal fan to my team(s). (trust me, 10 losing seasons for the Orioles, and I'm still a fan. amazing, isnt it?)

ahh yes poetry...when i was younger, i would ALWAYS have a Compostion book in my hand and i would be writing stories (some with 35 chapters or more!)....but none of them ever got "finished" lol i wouls start...then stop, and start another lol....then i quit for a while...and just recently i've been writing Poetry.....and have gotten MANY MANY compliements on them....heck even one of my 7th grade Teachers. Said to both my parents that i "Truly understood what it takes to write and and truly understands everything about it.....thats something you cannot teach....." back when i was in 7th grade, the teacher had also said that for being only in 7th grade, i wrote, powerfully....and had hte reading level of a 10th grader in Hgh School.....now...i dont really know what it is.

I'm told I have an amazing ability to retain information I've read or heard, but I've never thought of it as anything special. If I'm interested in a topic, I seek out information and learn as much as I can about it. Again, I don't think that's out of the ordinary. I tend to jump around a lot, too. History, sports, politics, music. Right now, I'm reading a book about the Beatles.

I can also write, but I'm not sure I do it better than anyone else. Well...judging from the e-mails I get from my coworkers, maybe I do. I'd like to get into writing fiction, but I have trouble thinking of stories that are original and aren't derivative of something else. When you read a lot of books, it helps you learn how to write prose, but it makes it difficult to think of my own ideas...because I'm so enthusiastic about what I'm reading. It's also hard to devote a lot of time to writing with a full-time job and a family.

I recently started working out and getting in shape. To be honest, when I looked in the mirror, I knew I had a few extra pounds on my frame, but I didn't think I had this much to lose: I have shed 45 pounds since this past Spring. I'm probably back to where I was 4 or 5 years ago. Believe it or not, when my gf was pregnant with my daughter, I put on "sympathy weight." Then I was laid off from my job, and I put on even more (I'm working again now). I'm planning to get down to 200 pounds by April or May. I've maintained discipline for several months now, so I really don't see myself breaking it. I feel stronger than I have in years, too.

yea....lol......you'd be surprised at how much weight you "think" you need to lose, and the amount of Weight that Actually comes off.........i've ALWAYS have weighed in as the high 140's (148) to the Low 150's.......partly because im in our little weight room that we have on a regualar basi.....and i now can bench 270 lbs, and have went from a size 31-32 waist...to a size 28-29 waist, of course i work out on a regular basis year round, and not one of those seasonal things....because if you stop, and even go 6 days without working out again....you lose 6 weeks of work that you had worked for

I used to live in baltimore for a while and maryland for around 15 years. I now live in texas. My hobby is riding motorcycles. All of my life my parents never let me get one. When in texas and started making good for myself making money and buying a house, I told myself I would get one. There are a lot of motorcycles here in the state also. After researching, I decided on a kawasaki klr650. Very good motorcycle, which by the way, has changed bodystyles this year. Very happy with it and thoroughly enjoy riding. After a year, I bid on a suzuki vx800 on ebay and won it. Had to drive to san antonio and pick it up, around a 2 hour drive away. This bike is what I wanted to get a long time ago and when driving home with it strapped in the back of my pickup on the way home was a joy. Posting a pic of the suzuki as soon as I can figure out how to do so and don't laugh, I look like I'm 60 years old, good pic of the bike but a bad one of me.

Love music. I'm ok at playing the bass. I'm in a band that makes comedic rap and metal songs, though we can't keep a guitarist for more than 3 days, so it's more of a drum-and-bass thing.

I also enjoy writing, and I'm pretty dominant at Madden.

I am an Eagle Scout, though noone believes it due to my fiendish personality.

That's about it.
