Why We Do Not Need Another Receiver.

18 posts in this topic

The receivers we have are good enough and have proven when thrown to they can make the tough catch.Mason is the hard nosed veteran who always seems to make the catch and Clayton( except the play versus the Patriots )have also made some spectacular catches this year.My favorite is the newest edition K.Washington he is really starting to shine and just maybe will be the featured threat on the outside down the road , they really need to sign him for another couple of years. The X-Factor of course are the tightends when they have been used they open everthing up for both the pass and run games.Heap is the most forgotten man on this roster when other teams have played them just look at how many times he was left open and still not threw too.

I agree about the receiving corps. None of them are game-breakers but all are more than capable of making clutch-catches. As for Heap, he's been more involved than he was last year but I agree he needs to see more targets, especially in the deep middle of the field in front of the safeties.

Yay, another debate about our weak receiving corp that are all going to possibly leave/retire after the season!
Still waiting for the punchline though....

Wide Receiver Age Free Agency Year
Derrick Mason 35 2010
Mark Clayton 27 2010
Kelley Washington 30 2010
Demetrius Williams 26 2010

Not debating anything. Not implying anything. Just saying this spells employee turnover if you ask me. I think our corps may have a some new faces.

With that being said.........Focus on this year please!!

I dont believe that at all. Marcus Smith will still be here next year. Clayton, for sure, and maybe Williams, will be RFA under the uncapped year. Which means we can keep them for one more season relatively cheap. Mason might retire and Washington might price himself out of our budget. But nonetheless, at the most we will have 2 new wideouts next year, maybe only 1.

Not to start an argument but do you really see the team bringing back Marcus? He's a great gunner but was he making the strides as a receiver to remain valuable?

I dont disagree with you at all.I highly doubt they will let every reciever walk out the door .Just sayin one or 2 may slip through the cracks espicially if we dont extend them before they hit the market, for the simple fact that it has played out that way. You sure williams will be a RFA?

Heap is probably the 3rd or 4th read in most instances and since the larger chunks of yards have been there, Flacco has been trying to get them with great success so far. I'd really like to see Heap getting involved in passing 3rd down situations.

I dont know whether he was making strides, I didnt follow him that closely, but I dont see why they wouldnt bring him back. He's not a free agent, he's got a year left on his rookie contract. And he's still an unknown. He hasnt proven himself but he hasnt played his way off the team like say Yamon Figurs.

Under the uncapped year Clayton will be a RFA, unless a team significantly out bids us and is willing to compensate us, he stays. I like Clayton but I dont see that happening.

I said maybe Williams because he has been in the league less than 6 years but I am not 100% because he was a RFA this season. Which means he's technically already on his 2nd contract. So, I am not sure, I have to read the rules again. But if the fact that he's already been a RFA doesnt matter, than yes Williams does fit the bill to be a RFA under the uncapped year.

The receivers we have are incredible but derrick mason will probably retire and all of our odther recievers might leave we should focus on gettin a good receiver in the draft like Riley Cooper from florida and gettin a wide receiver in free agency in the next offseason like maybe andre johnson we need a deep threat wid receiver

I have a feeling Ozzie is going to draft CB this upcoming draft, unless there's a star WR that falls into our laps and he can't pass on him.

If LJ Smith can stay healthy for once we'd have a solid attack without a true #1, but we can live by with what we have right now regardless.

I could see a corner but I really want a pass rusher, we will probably have to have a top 5 pick to get one that will have an immediate impact though. Damned if you do and if you dont.

You can still draft a top corner back, and still not have a good secondary. I'd say either two top rookies, or a top rookie and a proven veteran almost like Fox.

But we also desperately need a pass rusher. Pryce is old and we need a faster, younger guy.

Vincent Jackson is a free agent next year, someone who I would really like to see Flacco throw too.

The team does need a pass rusher but I don't see them getting one in the first round. It's still early though.

I can guarantee the Chargers won't let V-Jax hit the market. He's just entering his prime and they aren't exactly loaded at receiver.

I will admit I was a bit nervous about our WR's going into the season but now that I see the maturation of Flacco and how he makes them better I am absolutlely fine with who we have.
