Where Is The "nfl Rule Book"

9 posts in this topic

Today I saw a defensive delay of game called, I didn't know such a thing existed.

In one game Trevor Pryce was called on a "lining up in front of the center" or something like that call.

The rash of newer exotic penalties that have been called, plus the brand new "Brady shield" calls have prompted me to try and find a complete list (or book) of penalties.

After searching in vain I am convinced it is easer to find the holy grail then this rule book.

Anybody know where to find it?

Also what is the most obscure or exotic penalty you have ever seen called?

The rule book is published by the NFL annually and is available mainly in print. You can purchase a copy on Amazon.

Meanwhile, the rule book is not made available online, likely because it's so comprehensive. Lame excuse, I know, but I couldn't blame them -- rarely will the casual fan have the need to look up obscure rules or exact definitions, hence the digest of rules on NFL.com that's identical to the one made available to the media.

Obscure: The 15 yarder on Suggs for Malice in his heart against Detroit called by Mike Carey ( yes I'm female and we don't forget ANYTHING) :ICONATOR_01040da29c18a4eed76047

And when they call these 2 on the Ravens I am DONE
Touchdown Awarded (Palpably Unfair Act)

1. When Referee determines a palpably unfair act deprived a team of a touchdown. (Example: Player comes off bench and tackles runner apparently en route to touchdown.)

AND

15 Yards and Loss of Coin Toss Option

1. Team’s late arrival on the field prior to scheduled kickoff.
2. Captains not appearing for coin toss.

What happened with Suggs?

O.o I didn't know they could award points like that. The fact that the refs get to decide what is papably unfair makes me nervous.

:o He was ejected for having malice in his heart! What in the world? Do referees have any sort of punishment at all when they compromise the integrity of the league?

As far as performance goes: are you sure the Colts games weren't worse?

Hmm... tons of penalties, defensive meltdowns, this is starting to sound familiar...

Malice in his heart. Wow, when did Mike Carey become a priest?

And here I though some dumb call about a lineman's helmet not being further up than the center's belt was ridiculous. Not only do refs have calibrated eyeballs, they can see souls.
