They have an article on Dwan Edwards how he is living up to his potential.

Also, mere speculation, he mentions that he has been playing quick enough to play DE for a 3-4 defense yet we have been running 4-3 all year. Do you think we made a change during the bye week?

could have been a miscue on his part, but I do hope we switched over to 3-4 over the bye... but if Mattison really did realize we should go back to 3-4, I think we switch back after the season is over.

no, in this league you cant wait a whole year knowing you made a mistake. If we keep playing this bad I cant see him being here next year really, even though were not the type of teams to fire peoople that quick. I for one am happy wit dwan's progress cuz I dont see Pryce bringing anything to the table anymore.

If something does not change soon defensively, the season will be over long before January 3.

I believe that the defense was ranked 22nd in Nolans first year as DC, but he stayed around. So I seriously doubt the trigger gets pulled that quickly.

The irony of that is Nolan took us from a 4-3 to a 3-4. Go figure.....

I really question us not going after Nolan. He had been here before so obviously had some familiarity with the organization and some players. Really makes you wonder if we'd be one of the undefeated teams had we got him. As for switch back to the 3-4, it only makes sense but for some reason I don't see it happening. I think if we did go back to a 3-4 a lot of things would be fixed on our passing D side of the game - pass rush would get an upgrade, LB's could help out in the middle of the field.

Guys we're not fit for a 4-3. With Gregg, Ngata, and Pryce, we NEED to run a 3-4 in my opinion. This D Line was built to take up blocks so Rex's exotic blitzes with Linebackers and Safeties would be hard to defend. Teams had to pick their poisons. Block our stout D-Line one on one, or help out and allow blitzers to come free. Hell, even when we use to send 4, they always came from different angles with different players. Our D is too vanilla and simple now for what we have. We have a power D-Line that Bull Rushes the QB, not a finesse line like the Colts or Giants. Mattison seems to be trying to rely on the front 4 to get pressure and I don't feel we're built that way. Our corners are left on an island too long. I'm one of the few who don't think our corners are as terrible as people say. While they're not the best they've been, I think they would be better if we could generate pressure. I don't think the Steelers secondary is all that great, they're just protected by a killer pass rush.

Teams are doubling Suggs and Ngata, and are handling Gregg and Pryce one on one. If Matisson is gonna stay with a 4-3 ( I think it's more of a 3-4 Over/Under since T-Sizzle (LB/DE is down)), then we've got to move Pryce for a pass rushing D End, add a second D End (Or use Kruger or Edwards) and drop T Sizzle to Strong Side LB and Jarrett to Weak Side LB with Mr. Lewis. Just my opinion but what do I know.

what's this thread about again?
Guess we cant have too many threads complaining about the same thing
:sofa:

Leave it to Fly to point out the obvious.... One way or the other the majority of our gripes end up being either related to the 3-4, our CB's, our supposed need for another WR, more balance on offensive play calling etc. The topic starts in one direction but inevitably gets steered towards one of the things we like to whine about.

I only saw the first couple mins of the Minny game, didn't we start out using a 3-4 base?

And I'd be surprised if we don't see a couple changes next weekend, even if it's just a little personnel shuffling. Two weeks of practice means that maybe Webb or someone else (KRUGER!!) shows enough to warrant playing time.

Hey guys, remember when we picked Dwan Edwards when Darnell Dockett was still on the board?

*facepalm*

One of the many "What the Hell was Ozzie thinking?!" moments. I dont mean to change topics but wow, he has gotten us some talent but also got us some horrible/below average players.

For example drafting Yamon Figurs in 2007 when Mike Sims-Walker was still on the board

I like how the article phrased this:
"(Dwan) notched his first sack of this year"

They should rephrase it, instead of making it sound like a regular thing.
"Dwan recorded his 2nd career sack this year"

Maybe he should just quit trying to be a pass rusher, hit the gym, come to camp at 330lb and start learning how to clog lanes like your arteries :P

Edwards' progress is great, but Pryce is tied for the team lead in sacks (4)...

Pryce is one of the sack leaders of this team with 4 sacks in 6 games and has brought more pressure to the QB than Terrell Suggs. Prevor Pryce is game planned against and double teamed often. He has the ability to beat double teams and I've noticed that he has been held the majority of the time and for some reason the refs never call it.

I think Edwards need a few more big plays for anyone to feel good about this guy. He's going into his 5th year and has 60 tackles and only 2 sacks. He was drafted high and has made little if no impact at all for the team. I like Dwan, but he has not yet lived up to his 2nd round potential. I would like to see him play great and contribute in a big way. He looked great in pre-season last year but unfortunately suffered a horrendous back injury where 2 vertebrae had to be surgically fused together. I thought he was going to lose his spot in the 4-3 lineup to Paul Kruger and just sub with Pryce. He hasn't lost his spot to anyone and has proven he still has something to offer. Our young guys need to step up with big plays and I'd like to see him lead the way.
