Which Rb To Start?

11 posts in this topic

I've got 4 RB's and need to start 2 of them this week. Which 2 and why?

Cedric Benson vs. Chicago
Thomas Jones vs. Oakland
Clinton Portis vs. Philly
Rashard Mendenhall vs. Minnesota

I'm leaning toward Benson and Jones, mostly because of their opponents. But that could easily backfire.

Portis, although he's always injured, always plays and does well. But against a division rival, it could be different.

Mendenhall, I just think there's going to be more passing in that game than running.

Right you are. Benson and Jones.

Cedric Benson - A must. He is 3rd in the league in rush yards. Bears have a solid D. But Benson has rushed well on the likes of the Ravens and Steelers. Impressive.

Thomas Jones - Oakland plays decent in pass defense, and the way to beat them is on the ground. Plus after Sanchez's abismal performance the other day. The Jets know they need to destroy on the ground.

Mendenhall is spliting carries and going against a great rush defense. The way to beat the Vikes is through intermediate passing and Pittsburgh isn't afraid to ditch the running game anymore.

Clinton Portis I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole this week. Living in the DC area, the talk is that he's lost his touch. Plus the Redskins are all screwed up this week and are in disarray. Oh yea, Philly plays pretty good defense against division rivals. He's been doing okay against teams like the Lions, St. Louis Chiefs, and Tampa Bay (Everybody runs on them). Philly runs the same time of defense as the Giants. Portis scored 8 FFP against them w/ fresh legs.

I know this is just rebuttal becaue PU has this whole area locked down on fantasy advice.. but Benson is a MUST start almost always, and for what he said about jones.. sanchez has been doing as i've expected he would when he was drafted... and going up against probably the best corner in the game.... there is no way I trust the rookie to throw... not to mention Jones is the redzone option for the jets

Portis.. too injury prone.. if he puts up awesome numbers.. i'll still stick with my advice.. not to mention new playcalling for the team.. which means the team has to learn a bunch of new schemes and plays

Mendenhall.... after what Rice did to the Vikings... do you really think they are going to let another Runningback do that to them again anytime soon... especially one that has proven that he can run against a soft Chargers Defense?

I use these questions as practice. Need to be on top of my game if I want to win the 1K.

On Topic: Let us not forget that Benson is going against his Former team, who cut him. Notch that up as motivation.

very good point... let it be known that most players who go against their former team that cut or traded them... put up nice #'s.. or win... see Favre and shockey from this year

I'll buck the trend here, Benson is a no brainer and pleasant surprise to anyone who got him at a value spot in the fantasy draft. Just have a gut feeling on Mendenhall this week, that he's out to prove he's no fluke and take over the Steeler running game. Oakland's run D is certainly nothing special but they are coming off a huge win and playing at home with a solid record against the Jets at home, they seem to have more motivation than the Jets who can't seem to find all cylinders.

Benson and Jones because they are going to destroy those 2 weak run defenses. Plus Clinton is really banged up and I dont know why you own a steeler because that means you would hope a steeler does well and thats just wrong

definately starting R. Grant against CLE, so i need two from:

Maroney in London against TB, M. Lynch against CAR, or P. Thomas against MIA

TD heavy league, .25 PPR

hmm I'd probably go with P. Thomas,
1) NE is us last year when it comes to predicting who's running the ball
2) I really don't trust anything from the bills

Not to mention Thomas has definately found a lot of help in that saints offense

if you need another one from that group I'd take a chance on maroney... but then again it is quite possible New England and Tampa could both be in a slump due to being in london.... its a pretty big time difference
