It's a 2-year, $5 mil deal (or something low like that.) Basically, he can be cut after the season without a penalty to the cap, I believe; he'd just be paid whatever money is still owed that was guaranteed to him (which probably wasn't much.) Not exactly sure, though.

I don't want to wait that long. -_-

Gregg is the most electrifying player in a Raven uniform and Johnson is the best OLB we ever had. These guys combine for a lot of Raven harvesting of talent...

Hey, I like Foxworth just fine and all, but the Redskins don't pay for no-names, remember? The flashier, the better.

Exactly. The Redskins went for DeAngelo "Primetime Jr." Hall.

No doubt JJ is playing very well but Im going to say he's just overachieving.

Hasn't he "overachieved" long enough to be considered a legitimately good player?

He's been a legitimately good player since at least 2006, but no one has really given him credit because he does all the dirty work. It took Bart Scott leaving (who did all the "dirty work" for Ray Lewis up the middle to make those tackles) to show that JJ was really the key cog that helped bring pressure on the outside. Suggs is a phenomenal talent, but without a guy like JJ taking on blocks on the other side or to confuse tackles so that the end can get in on the play, Suggs could've possibly been just regressed even worse after his rookie season.

(Not that Suggs' so-called regression has been so bad, since his production has still been amazing in his hybrid role, save for this season thus far)

A Ngata deal was getting done regardless... don't forget we will also need to lock-up Gaither long-term as well.

Judging from his performance thus far in 2009, though, it won't may not be as big as we expected.

If you really think about that, it's not really a good thing.

Not only that, but Bill Belichick basically pimped Richard Seymour to the Raiders because he knew the Raiders would be willing to pay the cap figure he's due this season and he'd be a free agent after this season; so not only do the Patriots absolve themselves of his cap hit, but Seymour still gets his money elsewhere and could conceivably go back to the Patriots after this season as a free agent and get back with a winner.

Seymour says his holdout was because of the thought of re-locating his family -- but Seymour would go back to the Pats in a heartbeat and understands this situation, just as Jason Taylor did when he was cut by the Redskins after being traded there by the Dolphins, only to return to Miami this season. It's all a chess match.

You are absolutely right. The Patriots are the shrewdest team in the NFL. They ONLY guarantee long term money to Quarterbacks (See Brady and Cassell) They pay when the time is to pay, but they always get you back in the end (See Cassell and Seymor). No Loyalties there......Just WIN Baby!

We could have another Jason Brown situation if Gaither improved upon his 2008 season.

Though I agree that his long-term projections possibly being downgraded are a bit disappointing.
