Flynismo's Consolidated "Let's Sign/Trade For" Thread

36 posts in this topic

Since apparently we need a new thread every time a random thought crosses our minds about how so-and-so would be such a great addition to our team, let's help save the manitees (and my mind) and post your random blurbs here.

Man, the incessant calls for C-Mac and a big WR couldn't possibly be more annoying.

The Scott and Anita show is almost unbearable. Everybody stammers and stutters in that Dundalk/Essex accent, takes 5 minutes to make the same hackneyed observation the last thirty yokels struggled their way through.

Well, half of your thread title in no longer applicable... now that the trade deadline is past. :)

And how much "talent" is unsigned, just waiting to be that one key to the puzzle, that turns the defensive backfield into the #1 passing D?

For example, some PFT "rumors" (i.e., B.S.) about free agent possibilities, from today:

Houston looking to sign one RB from this group: "Lorenzo Booker, Thomas Brown, Julius Crosslin, Kyle Eckel, Patrick Allen, and Ryan Torain".

Atlanta looking at these RBs: "DeCori Birgminghan, Antone Smith, Aaron Stecker, and Kenny Watson."

Minny looking at CBs: "Mark Parson, Trae Williams, and DeAndre Wright."

Some real difference makers, there.

People - Please realize - Our roster is, essentially, complete. We're stuck with the 53 men we have, love 'em, or not so much.

I would be ok with it.

But I am not ok with your signature saying "Eron Riley is the answer" LOL Way off on that one

He was good at one point. However, he's 33, tore his ACL in '07, fractured his kneecap in '08, and was released this spring. No one else signed him, even before training camp. I believe all these factors indicate he's done.

Give the guy a chance...He would be our answer for a "deep threat" speed, supposedly he has a 4.29 "40 time" compared to DHB's 4.30 "40 time". At 6"3 he would be our tallest receiver something that we have lacked. From what ive seen in the post season he's a beast in the making. Maybe he needs work at running routes but when your running a post route, who can complain?

Fly me and you both know the answer to our problems is a 26 year old Peter Boulware....on a side note I finally found a jersey of his on ebay, pretty juiced about that pickup.

I think like many other teams, rebuilding from the bottom compared to bringing in veteran players is the way theyd rather go. A rookie for $500,000 with his prime ahead of him, or a vet for $2mil possibly past his prime.

We definitely need a thread like this. But will it deter the newbies from logging on and posting their strong emotional disorders to trade or sign for whoever the hot topic is? Probably not.

Man would Mike Nolan fix this defense in about 5 hours or what. Still remember that monster season Ray had in his 3-4 scheme with Hartwell beside him. Ahhhhh the glory days....anybody got the 2000-2005 years on tape for me lol?

Like I've said in previous posts, our window of opportunity is closing and I'll take a super bowl this year if that means 3-13 next year. I don't disagree with the strategy of building through the draft but I also refuse to be unrealistic about our circumstances. We are making a bee line for a struggle with wild card birth.

I was in love with Parson before the draft and completely forgot he went undrafted. I believe he did well in the Lions camp before getting cut and then getting signed by the Texans.

Here is a some good technical highlights of him:

Looks like the glass is half empty for you. Mine is half full. Our window of opportunity is just beginning. We are going to build upon our OL, QB and RB. We have still have a lot of youth on D. We are competitive year-in and year-out. Our foundation will be set. We'll improve further through the draft. Something that cannot happen if we give up picks now.

Anyone have a list of WR or CB that are UFA at the end of the year? I'd try to sign a decent receiver and cornerback, then hopefully draft a DL or CB.

My thoughts exactly. Other than a good young WR, our offense is STACKED for years to come.

Then we have young bucks like Ngata, Suggs, Kruger, Gooden, Webb, Zbikowski and Haruki to rebuild the foundation of our defense upon.

I'm absolutely ecstatic for the future, because dare I say, if Oz plays his cards right this offseason and next years draft, we may have a dynasty on our hands....I'm sure there are a lot of eye-rolling and snickering after reading what I just said and considering everyone's mood at the moment, but I firmly believe that.

I'll tell you why our defense has been good, or at least moderate, for so many years. His name is Ray Lewis and it isn't so much his capacity to play but it is his capacity to inspire. I hope he goes directly from the field to the sidelines as our D coordinator. He has an ability to make a defense competitive, even when they get no help from their offense.

My glass isn't half empty or half full, it's filled to the brim with realism. If we aren't in a heated race for a wild card spot this season I'll eat my words. And I'd be happy to eat my words because one glance at the Steeler's schedule would explain to a rational man that we are not winning this division.

all the free agent corners are old and inept

I do like Mark Parson though

Yeah Mark Parson showed flashes and most teams stop throwing at his side of the field. Still has a long way to go. I'd def add him to the practice squad.

I have to agree that I like our future prospects with our young players. Ozzie is content with the guys we have. Whether or not it pans out for this season our not remains to be seen but i get tired of the gloomy fans with itchy trigger fingers. I'm a glass half full type of guy so I think we can still get better this year. We've been competitive in all of our games so we just need that little extra to get where we need to be.

You should add cut/release to the title. All bases covered then!

This is a great idea, but everyone will still start separate threads for their flavor of the week. :34853_doh:

I can see maybe a CB being signed, but I think we are stuck with the WR core we currently have, which is not nearly as bad as some make it out to be. I still doubt any trigger will be pulled on a FA, though. With Webb coming into the picture, I think we will see less of Carr/Walker in Nickle/Dime situations(hopefully...assuming performs well at CB). Cutting any CBs is out of the question right in now. They are struggling, but it's what they have.

I don't see a WR being signed any time soon either, which is fine, because I think that at this point in time, CB is our most critical need (ask me again in the offseason and that will change..)

I think Webb needs to be thrown in the fire. Let's see if that forges him or melts him.

And I just rewatched our SB.....man, those were the good old days. If only Flacco were around for the early part of the decade.....

I like Kruger, from what I have seen, but I'd give up him and my left testee for Sean Smith. Miami is going to have the best secondary in football in a couple years.

Battle is in the UFL.

Cousin is old and washed up.

C-Mac reportedly used a racial slur to Harbaugh's face. He isn't coming back.

Barrett is bench fodder.

Reynaldo Hill was beat out by Chris Carr. 'Nuff said.

Pacman is a talented player but we all know about his problems. No team wants that.

Ty Law is old but still demands big money. He probably wouldn't want to be nickel either.

I had forgotten about Parson. It seems like he's doomed to be one of those small-school prospects that would've been a solid NFL player had he just gotten a chance but there's time.

One of the biggest reasons I don't see the Ravens signing a veteran corner is because they'll be required to pay him a hefty minimum because of his time in the league. And if they sign a young corner, he's probably walking the streets because he can't come in and contribute right away.
