Patriots Cut Starting LB Tully Banta-Cain

7 posts in this topic

The Patriots cut Banta-Cain, who isn't terrible... He has 3 sacks in 6 games - and is available. Should the Ravens consider him?

Barring injury to one of our guys, hard to justify signing him since we already have a hard enough time as it is finding reasons to activate Paul Kruger. There's simply too much depth at LB on this team to add another one to the mix, even with a guy as talented as Banta-Cain.

the ravens already have a LB warehouse.. more talent never hurts, but we have more pressing needs to spend not only cap space on, but roster spots

There has to be a reason why they cut him.

i think he's actually 2nd on the depth chart behind J. Mayo, but still.. they will probably needed another roster spot for a RB because fred taylor and sammy morris are both hurt, but thats just me speculating.. not too sure

Cain was expendable due to signing Seau and they do need more depth at running back. They seem to need that every year. Who heard of benjarvus green-ellis before the Pats? I like that name almost as much as samkon gado.

From fanball.com:

The News
One day after releasing him, the Patriots have re-signed linebacker Tully Banta-Cain, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Our View
It's not often that a player with three sacks in six games is released, but it's even less often that a player gets released midseason by a team, only to be re-signed the very next day. The curious transaction is almost certainly the result of some salary cap maneuvering on the Patriots part, who are rumored to be after some big names before Tuesday's trade deadline comes and goes.
