What We Should Have Done At Cb This Offseason

10 posts in this topic

1: Instead of signing Fox, we should've picked up leigh bodden who was released by the lions and signed by the pats. He's a big, solid corner.

2: 2nd round, we should have got CB sean smith instead of Kruger. He's 6'4, solid, and now doing well with the dolphins.

We could have had 2 big, physical corners, and I think sean could've been solid here for years to come. I guess hindsight is 20/20 huh?

Don't get me wrong, I like Sean Smith. But apparently he has off field issues so probably not in the Ravens mould... Nonetheless he may have been a good addition.

Totally right with Bodden, I wanted him as well and personally wanted us to take Sean Smith in first round. Oher fell to us, great pick and Smith fell to the 2nd right where we had a pick, I was screaming for us to take Smith at the TV. I was livid for a week about the Kruger pick, then I saw him play in preseason and thought it was actually a half decent pick. Now we dont even dress him so that pick looks awful. Smith has outperformed Vontae Davis their first rounder. Smith just knows how to play his position and how to play football, I dont know how you pass on that.

PS is that your real name and if so how in the world do you pronounce it? Not trying to be rude or nothing.

Jamal Lewis, Ray Lewis, and CMac all had had an off field issue at one point in time. Unless the guy is the HB from Oklahoma way back when (cant remember his name, anybody?) or Willie Williams. And the player has the potential to be dominant why would you pass on him.

yup well said. we could have had an awesome draft, solid cornerback all year, and there probably would be no need for the countless, screaming, angry fan threads on baltimoreravens.com

and no, ua mau ke ea o ka aina i ka pono is the state motto of hawai'i. it means, "the life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness."

It's hardly guaranteed at this point that Sean Smith will have a better career than Kruger. You can't look at 6'3" and just assume he'll be awesome. In that paper league, Matt Millen is a great GM and Troy Williamson a great receiver. Sean Smith doesn't play physical or aggressive at all from what I've seen. Sure, he's a rook and he'll develop, but Kruger will eventually see the field and we can't make that judgment unless he turns out to stink and Smith's play goes way up. Complain about a pick like Davon Drew, that'd be more legit.

Leigh Bodden would've been a good pickup. The C-Mac talk is old, he's done. Rolle, we can hope, but retirement sadly looks more likely unless that was a minor neck operation, which I doubt. Foxworth I like as a depth cb, not a main guy. We somehow got caught up in a bidding war on a promising but unproven player because we liked his character and roots in Maryland. Speedy youngish guys are nice to have but you have to instill some toughness into guys whether it comes natural or not. Samari Rolle actually got tougher the longer he played here. Hopefully we can get him or another veteran to come in and lead these young guys, take some pressure off.

What's troubling is our guys don't correct their mistakes. Always too hesitant or too aggressive. Walker runs well with receivers but can't find the ball and gets PI every time he plays, Washington gets beat to the inside, Landry is making Jim Leonhard look like Merton Hanks. What does Chuck Pagano have these guys working on, Rubik's cubes?

Unfortunately, the free agent list looks like the Geritol club. I'd be glad to pick them up...in 2001.
