What I Saw From The Game

3 posts in this topic

I watched the whole game today so heres what I saw.

The Good

Cudos to Cam he went into half and made adjustments to the offense that had Minny off balance and opened up their defense. He attacked the middle, used misdirection, used change of pace plays (shotgun draw to Rice for a TD comes to mind). He took pressure off the Oline that way, they were getting manhandled through the end of the first half and into the first half of the 3rd quarter. Ray Rice is prob the most legit all purpose weapon we've ever had in Baltimore. He doesnt quit on runs, can catch out of the backfield, and just makes people flat out miss. Flacco wore about 15 hits today and stood strong and defiant in the pocket. Boller much love but you would have died straight up. Props to Oher for battling his A$$ off today against Allen. Gooden I thought played well and tough against the run, he took AP on a couple of times and stopped his forward progress, well done. Rays goaline stand against AP was also sick, flash backs of 04 when he was still the best linebacker in the game and the world.

The Bad

Secondary is the softest thing Ive ever seen. This is a complete flashback of the 07 season with CMac and Rolle out, Pittman and Ivy starting that was ugly. This is just as bad, Foxworth and Washington are hesistant for contact, which is odd because they play football. They both are aweful pressing, and as such cant cover quick slants at all. Cover 1 press, basic defensive call, and Rice goes for 65 yards unacceptable flat out. I actually feel bad for Mattison because his play calling really is not bad at all. If you watch the game closely its really not bad, the quality of play hes getting from his entire defense is atrocious. Landry's awareness apparently is flat out gone, he was standing 5 feet from Shiencoe on his second TD. Our Dline gets hardly any penetration now on runs, I dont know if its because we cant stack gaps like we could in the 3-4 with the extra linebacker or what but we dont get penetration against good Olines. Our blitz's are ineffective, I dont know if its the Dline not going into the right gap, or the linebackers but when every single one of the gets picked up something is wrong. Mattison doesnt draw up blitz's that attack the Oline head on and attempt to beat them 1 on 1, nobody does that so that falls on the personnel. I am digusted in how Mattison cannot seem to make any adjustments whatsoever in the secondary. If I know Frank Walker is on the field at wide out, Id put Reed over the top to help late in the game. I dont know thats just what Id do after continually watching them get beat on single coverage. Personally I dont think the secondary is going to get any better, they dont have the mindset or the passion of holding offenses to nothing. They arent tough, and toughness you cant teach, they allow the offense to dictate how they play and thats not the way to go about it. We cant get pressure without a blitz, and our corners cant cover without help. Its a never ending cycle.

Thats just what I see, what did you see from todays game.

It can be done if you guess right with a press defense, but our corners are aweful at pressing so it doesnt happen.
