Weight Lifting Tips, Ideas, Odd Exercises That Work For You

16 posts in this topic

After the summer in which I play high end baseball, I give myself the last week of August until the middle of October to rest and recoup and then go back to lifting. So I was wondering to all you weight lifting guru's in your experiences what exercises have you directly benefited your increase in strength, size, and speed to. Now I dont mean like flat out bench, squats, or cleans cuz those are kind of a given but stuff that is seldom seen in a gym of grunts.

ie, for baseball ill use the cable towers, attach the rope to one hook, grab it with both hands and go into a baseball swinging motion and pop up with my hips at the end. Helps with explosiveness in your core and trunk for your baseball swing, most importantly the speed of which you can rotate on your own axis and the force in which you do so, which relates to power when hitting.

So you guys got anything out there?

swimming is the best way in my opinion too. It uses all the muscles in your body, swim for about an hour and it builds your body as a whole and not only that increases your stamina.

If you got some weight to lose and want to build some muscle, I highly recommend the TNT Diet book. This way of eating has changed my life, I've lost 84 pounds so far. Gained control of my blood-glucose levels, lowered my blood pressure and feel much, much better overall. I'm currently wearing size 34 pants from my high of 42-44. The exercises included in the book will build muscle on you as well. Post here if you got any questions for me.

Swimming is not for building quick twitch power.

If you want to build explosiveness in your core and shoulders/arms try some baseball specific isometrics. Tower cables are a good start.

I think swiming is an excellent tool in building muscle ,it gets the bood pumping and always remember that the better the blood flow you have is key to any muscle building exercise. When I was in the Marine Corps I would always follow up weightlifting with an hour of swiming no less.I wish I could have time to even workout these days but between driving a truck, spending time with my boys ,and taking care of my land, and animals not much time left. What ever you do try to stay with it and don't get frustrated would be the key,it takes time.

I had lost a bunch of weight by cutting out white flour and sugar as well as portion control. I was also working in landscaping in Florida. The first summer, I was losing around 10-15 pounds each month.

I've since gotten a desk job and put that weight back on and then some.

looking to start losing weight by eating right and working out
what are some of the better starter methods?

I think the easiest way to lose weight is to add muscle. It takes forty times as many calories to maintain a muscle cell as aposed to a fat cell, so if you hit the weights and eat a high amount of protein to start with (which is easier because proteinous foods are usually meat which people eat and like anyway, just eat more) You'll put on weight to start with but as you body requires more calories to sustain itself and you get more into working out, you can cut down on the fattier cuts of meat and fatty non-essentials (fast foods, cookies) and getting more cardio into your workout then you'll start to feel much leaner and healthier.
