Gaither Dnp

Saw a tweet that Gaither didn't practice again which will likely leave Oher lining up opposite Jared Allen all day.

Thoughts on the matchup?

The matchup is okay. I was really hoping Gaither would be back for this game. But usually if a player doesn't practice on Friday, they don't play on Sunday.

Oher's going to have his work cut out for him. But I'm more worried about the strong side now. Yanda needs to step up.

Not happy about it. We all saw our lack of offense last week which was partially due to the missing of Gaither. But the OL at times didn't look half bad.

This will be a helluva test for the young Oher. The entire line actually, Minnesota has a great D line.

I will be shocked if Gaither dosent play in this game but if not i think Oher will do a solid job he is very talented guy i honestly thik you can put him anywhere on that line and he would do well hes very versatile...

The Ravens could've used Gaither but I think Oher will be fine. The key for the Ravens is ensuring they aren't in 3rd and long situations. That's easier said than done but it's obvious passing situation where Allen is at his best. Ray Rice seems to be getting better each week but I really think Cam should put McGahee in to chip-block Allen if the team is in a 3rd and long.

Why would you be shocked? It's not like he's been limited practice. He's been a no-show completely. Just because it's a huge game for the OL doesn't mean the medical staff is going to skip their due diligence.

Unless the player is a diva. General rule of thumb is no practice on Friday, no play on Sunday.

Agreed. It's simple. Gaither will not play. By not playing it gives him two more weeks to recover from his injury. This type of injury is not willed away. Look at Landry from last year. His was possibly much worse. There is no guaranteed recovery time. From what I heard he was still having trouble turning his head without difficulty.

Oher will do just fine at left tackle. He did a great job last week not giving up one sack. It would be nice to have a healthy starting line but we will do fine. We have some good depth at the tackle position.

I'd be fine with this if a.) the games weren't so crucial and b.) the opponents weren't so good.

We need the guys now, not against Detroit and Miami, but it's not like anything can be done.

I'm ok with oher but I am slightly concerned. Jared Allen is a speed rusher and Oher is used to playing on the right side of the line. Now he has to play the left side which is a big switch for a OL. Odom had his way with Oher a few times so I hope he can learn from that and protect Flacco.

I am really hoping that Oher can shut him down, and prove all of those teams wrong that didn't draft him wrong. Good thing we got him. I am really hoping he can stop him because Jared Allen is a monster.

Here's a free lesson of the day.

Oher is actually a left tackle whom we converted to right tackle due to that fact that we had Gaither holding down the blind side. Oher played left tackle throughout his college career at Ole Miss (except for 10 games at gaurd). So really he's only played 4 games at RT.

So Oher is probably more comfortable playing LT anyways.

Yes I'm concerned here too. J. Allen is eating left tackles for lunch lately. He will cause Heap to either stay in to block or do some chip blocking before he heads out in his pass route. This is not a good match up for the Ravens at all.

Fixed. I wasn't being a jerk and I apologize if I came across that way. Just stating the facts, I don't know why I was thinking bama.

But why are you being mean, calling names? It's not very nice. Chill.

I'm more worried about Yanda than Oher to be honest.
[/quote]
yeah, hopefully we win this match up.. or we might be in trouble.. I'm not trying to say that all is lost if we lose.. cause god knows we can come back in this... but between how the bengals ARE playing... and how the steelers TYPICALLY play... we can't afford to go into 3rd place... I believe we need the lead at least ahead of pitts b4 we go in and play them

I guess the "Blind Side" :oldwiseman: depends on whether your QB is right or left handed.

I'll just start off by saying Jared Allen isn't a pure power or speed rusher, he's a hustle/technique guy. I'm not worried about Oher one bit.
