They Play That Should've Ended The Game..

14 posts in this topic

Flacco is the future of this team and has matured immensely since last season but the deep throw he missed to Clayton was a play that the "great ones" make. I'm not saying Flacco won't be great but that was the biggest play of the game in my opinion and he missed it. The replay clearly showed Leon Hall simply letting Clayton run right by him and had Flacco taken a bit off the ball or put more air under it, the game would've been over.

I'm not happy at all the team lost to Cincy and it's not going to get any easier next week but I think this loss, even more than the loss to the Patriots, will force the coaches to address schemes and a lack of discipline, which have killed the team the past two weeks. The season isn't over.

I'm still seeing that play over and over in my head as what it could have, should have been. Flacco sees the open guy and throws it just right. Clayton catches it, touchdown, game. Clayton haters have to shut up. We're 4-1 and in a good position. Top of the division. The phrase "Cardiac Cats" is never uttered again.

But wait...it sails...out of reach...why.

Failure.

Missed chances. Even though we sucked, we still had a chance to win the game. Just like last week. We played 2 good teams with good defenses (you have to be impressed with the Bengals, I remember them sucking horribly on defense) but you now look at the formula of the AFC North.

Smash mouth running with hard nose defenses with QBs that maintain the game.

I watched Tom Brady not too long ago miss Randy Moss who was also wide open... I think Brady can be considered one of "the great ones"

That wasn't the ONLY should-be game winning play though.

There was also Ray Lewis have BOTH HANDS on the ball and nothing but daylight in front of him and he just loses it.

Missed opportunities and bad offensive playcalling.

These are things that can be fixed though at least.

Every QB has missed an open receiver. I'm not saying it doesn't happen. But this was in crunch time and Flacco should have thrown a better ball.

I love Flacco but he wasn't so "cool" today.

Last week it was Claytons fault, this time it was Flaccos. I guess they are both even now.

Its obvious that Jared Gaither's absence hhas had a big impact on the offense, without him, our offense has been terrible

Instead of trying to vilify those who see Clayton's obvious flaws, try of actually using an example that backs up your claim. There were no jukes or fakes in his route, all he did was run around the corner, nothing more, nothing less. The corner thought he had help over the top, or he misjudged Clayton's speed, either way it's a defensive error and not an opportunity that was created by the Clayton. Of course, that's half of football (taking what the defense gives you) but in terms of judging an individuals skill, it has no bounds whatsoever unless the individual created the opportunity.

Don't think I'm right? Maybe you should have watched the Broncos Pats game; Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal looked amazing, the type of receivers I wish we had.

Added: And we're not forgetting Clayton's near fumble, that could have easily gone the other way (had the refs called the play a fumble initially). That replay could not prove with indisputable evidence either way, so Clayton's lucky he's not sitting in the frying pan alone. I will say he made some nice receptions today, but his mistakes seem to outweigh his contributions as of late (more so than before).

You might be right. As well as Oher performed in Gaither's spot, it seems the team is much better with Gaither at LT and Oher at RT.

Is it just me, or did the Ravens just give up in the last play when the TD was thrown to win the game? Both ravens defenders just fell over and the receiver was wide open for the catch. Not that I can blame them if they DID give up. The ref cals in the fourth qtr were terrible and arguably won the Bengals the game. Everything from pass int, catches out of bounds considered in, and not to mention the DEF ILLEGAL FORMATION DURING THE EXTRA POINT- I didn't think this was possible. What do you guys think?
