Junior Prom

22 posts in this topic

So this spring I'll be going to my junior prom and I have an idea of who my date would be and all but I don't really know what to expect from the dance. What should I expect would happen there? I've been to some homecoming dances, will it be like a homecoming dance where all you do is just dance? Also, do you really need a limo? because I don't think i'd wanna make my parents spend that much money for Jr Prom. Maybe for Senior Prom yeah. What was your experience of Junior Prom?

I didn't go to either, and I didn't really miss anything. Save your money for Senior Prom. To be honest, I wouldn't bother with Junior prom at all.

Junior Prom's a little bit of a waste. Senior Prom is really where it's at. If you're going, I'd advise waiting until next year to ask for a limo because it's a little ridiculous to go all-out for Junior Prom. It's pretty much the same as Homecoming, except a little fancier and you might have a meal served beforehand, depending on how your school does it. There might be drawings for prizes and there's usually a gift bag given as you leave, but again, depends on your school.

The only advice I'll give is to make damn sure that your tux fits you right well in advance; I highly regret Senior Prom for a lot of reasons, but one of my biggest regrets is not getting the tux rental fitted properly and ending up with one that was baggy on me and made me look bigger than I was at the time. The girl that did the measurements at the fitting did a crappy job and it didn't help that I was wearing a big shirt and baggy jeans (hey, that was the style back then!) so instead of looking classy, I looked like I was a walking blimp.

Oh, and I had a light pink tie. Because it matched my date's light pink dress. Color coordination is recommended and all, but let's not go crazy here. -_-

My ex-girlfriend made me go to Junior Prom and it was really lame. Although I didn't care for senior prom that much either. High school is too overrated. College is where it's at.

Just go there and have fun. Dance and enjoy yourself. Don't go all out. I went stag on junior prom and danced with a lot of ladies there. Man that was over a decade ago. :oldwiseman:

I'm going this year too. I'm skipping the ring dance though, know THAT seems like a waste of money.

What school do you go to?

that's what I plan on doing, regardless of limo or no limo. I figured that's the spirit for occasions like these I don't know what to expect.

2 of my 3 sons refused to go but they both went to their ring dances ceremonies and were glad they did. They never went to homecoming either, but i guess my youngest will have to next year since he is on the football team.

He walked on, he is practicing and in the weight room because the bottom fell out of his grades, high school is TOTALLY different then middle school, with class expectations and homework and he like football and neglected HW. He is currently pulling the grades up and learning balance. The kid only played sports on weekends so the whole 3 hour practice then do homework killed him.

yeah high school is a lot different, freshman year for me was just getting used to it all and my grades were in the high Bs. Sophomore year I got used it the whole phase more and ended up with low As. This year I got the hang of it so I'm doing much better than the previous two years. Colleges look for this kind of trend in our transcripts, so I just need to keep my grades up right now. He should be fine as long as he keeps his priorities in grades and don't stray off like I almost did in sophomore year haha

All I have to say is thank goodness for mid-terms and his school always gives them a week early if the student is doing poorly so there are 5 weeks to fix them.

Or you could just tell him to work hard now so he can coast through Senior Year later, and by the time he gets to Senior Year, he'll have a strong enough work ethic that coasting won't even cross his mind. Besides, from what I remember, high school gets easier once you get past Freshman Year. Just depends on your time management.

11th grade is the worst in my experience , I have a senior too--he is taking all elective except for 12 grade English and Economics, he is dyslexic so the 90 min English classes for 3 years killed him. My freshman is my last thank God. I am quite sure the HS will have a party when they see the last of my boys. My stepson who is 22 was hell on wheels, the middle one quiet, and the young'un a trip. The original mod group knows him from meetings and games--he is his father.
