Merged: Who Should Be Returning Kicks And Punts Threads

39 posts in this topic

So do you guys think Harbaugh is going to start Ladarius Webb over Carr this weekend. Webb had a better return against the Patriots last week, and seems he can find the gap and hold onto the ball better. Although Webb did fumble once in Preseason, but it went out of bounds. Carr seems to fall with if one finger touches him. What are your thoughts. I think if there smart, they would.

Im willing to bet that hand at the bottom left on his leg took him down on that play....

Carr is going to get the nod I believe and I want to see him bounce back and make some good runs but we shall see. He also has an injury on his groin so Webb might get some time.

I respect Chris Carr because he plays the game and for the team I love BUT somebody needs to get the horse shoe out of his butt because he is not playing like a Raven, sorry.

I'd like to see Webb in not only some KRs and Punts but in at some corner. I think they should give him a shot at nickel, because I don't think Carr will be able to cover Chris Henry.

If they're smart? I'm pretty sure the staff is smart. They are smarter than any of us fans when it comes to football, so they will make the right decisions.

Carr runs too timid at times. He has to explode through anything that he thinks is a hole. Carr is going to struggle big time against Henry this weekend however.

I see Carr starting the game as kick returner, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Webb fielding some punt returns.

I don't care who's out there. I just want to see a spark on special teams.

I would definitely like to see Webb given a shot to return kicks... maybe have both he and Carr back there to cover each side?

Yep. And look how easy it would be to knock the ball out there in that pic.

Webb did have some ball control problems in the preseason, but weren't they all on punts? I'm kind of thinking that he'll get his chances on kick returns. I'd like to see Webb get his chance, as Pu said, a spark on ST would be nice!

Right now Carr isn't playing as well as he can. Harbaugh isn't going to just throw him under the bus over a few games, the entire special teams unit needs work.

I'm all for Webb taking both of Carr's spots. I gave Webb the benefit of the doubt week one with his lackluster performance. Then I gave him another bye week two. I know people want to say how it's not his fault, the blocking isn't there. Well, the man has poor judgement to begin with. Apparently, he doesn't know when to down it and when to run it. That's on him. Apparently, he cannot hold onto the ball very well either. That's on him. I know Webb fumbled once on a return in preseason, but let him get his chance. Carr already fumbled, so let's see what Webb can do.

I would like to see Webb get some burn. His size will be better against Chris Henry. Does anyone else think it might be worth putting a starter on Henry when he's on the field?

Maybe the fact that Carr was limited in practice because of a groin opens up the opportunity for Harbs to give Webb reps this weekend without having to "demote" Carr. He can use the injury as an excuse and then if Webb does good, say he earned it and if he does bad, Carr steps back in without any drama about "benching" or demotion, etc.

When you play like Carr, you deserve to be demoted.

I totally agree, but Harbs has to worry about politics and what message he is sending to the team, etc. While all players should have to earn the right to start, I think if you have too short of a leash on your players, they play tight because they're afraid to make mistakes. If 1 fumble puts Carr on the bench, what happens when someone else fumbles?

Well with Carrs Injury I beleive the coaches will have to use Webb this week, Speacial Teams and Nickel are crucial times in a game. And Carr is not starting off the best when healthy this season anyway. I would hope the put a healthy Webb in and see how he does if he makes to many mistakes then put Carr back in I have a feeling he would contribute right away. But we will see.

It's not all about one fumble. It's about poor performance and poor decision making, which Carr has shown so far. You cannot bench people for one fumble, but weeks of how Carr has been playing both at Corner and return man, that warrants the idea. Especially when you have someone like Webb who's itching to prove he's worth the money being paid to him.

I think he's on our practice squad and from his college days he was a KR what do you think?? i just know we need help on this and carr isn't getting it done enough. Riley had some good catches in preseason of course that was at the WR spot but i think if he could get the ball he would gain yards, his stats have him around 23 yrs per Kr.what do you think??

I think there is no downside on seeing how he does when he practices it. But likely the coaches know what the players are capaible and he might not been as good as Carr and Webb. But then again they might of overlooked him or hes just not polished his crafts yet. But good thinking you never know.

I would think the Ravens tried that out during training camp and he didn't beat out Carr and Webb. Plus, Harper is probably ahead of him for being the first WR called up from the practice squad if needed so Riley would be a specialist if brought up. Harbaugh doesn't like to have specialists like Billick did. Thats why Stover isn't here and thats probably why Ayanbadejo started playing on defense. He hates to give up a roster spot so Riley would have to be truely special to be called up just to return kicks and I just don't see that happening.

Was it just me or did we put Reed in for a punt return late in the game, but he never actually got the return because they decided to go for it or something.

Not only do I want to see Webb returning kicks, I also want to see him in the nickel spot. I personally think the only reason Carr is the nickel is because Walker played so poorly in pre-season and Webb is young but at this point, I don't want to see Carr on the field at all. He isn't as explosive as Webb, indecisive on punt returns and isn't very good in coverage.

Yup, Reed was back to return a punt. If I remember correctly, he ran it back, but didn't get many yards.

I say if Carr has another fumble in the next few weeks, we platoon it with Lardarius, Zibby, and Nakamura. Tom and Haruki were both solid return guys in college.

Nope - Reed was back for one punt return last week and he let it go as it was landing inside the 10. Bounced back a few yards and I think we started around the 14.

FYI, it's Eron not Erin. For furture reference.

I'm going to trust Harbs. The guy hasn't shown me any reason not to.

Looks like Webb will get a shot at being the primary KR. I like that we kept Carr on punt returns, because that is a tougher job than KR. Webb had trouble making the decision on whether or not to call fair catch, return the punt, or let it bounce when he played in the preseason.
