What To Do...

17 posts in this topic

I usually don't like seeking out suggestions on my Fantasy pools, feels like cheating, but this one has left me scratching my head on whether or not to pull the trigger and I need to act fast....

Current Roster
J. Flacco - QB
A. Peterson - RB
B. Jacobs - RB
S. Holmes - WR
K. Walter - WR
p. Garcon - WR
C. Cooley - TE
S. Hauschka - K (just dropped J. Carney since NO was on the BYE)
Ravens - DST

Bench
R. Bush - RB
J. Jones - RB
R. Mendenhall - RB
D. Jackson - WR
K. Warner - QB

Now here's my dilemma. Some dude in the league just dropped Anthony Gonzalez due to his extended injury and I want to pounce. Looking at my roster it's not really safe to drop anyone except Garcon, but IND is playing the worst pass D in the league in a TEN team which is allowing 305 yds per game. I could pull the trigger on the deal and work Deshaun Jackson into the lineup, which has been my most clear option so far. But I'm worried Garcon may be building a big name for himself with Manning and could turn into the Anthony Gonzalez of last year. It's either that, or drop R. Bush (haven't used him at all this year, just hoped he would do something to up his trade value).
I try to keep a strangle hold on the FA RB's in the league so that it keeps the points off other peoples boards, but I'm just not sure what he will do this year.
I also have an offer for J.Jones - D.Mason (I want him bad, but am trying to keep the RB's for leverage and bye week replacements.
I think I'm over complicating things in my head and need a sound mind to chime in.

Please and thanks.

That's what we're here for. It's not cheating at all.

Garcon was the flavor of last week. Now Austin Collie is. He got a lot of looks last week that included 6 catches. Bottom line is, when late season comes the Colts want to trust expierence. Gonzales will get the nod. But when the hell will Gonzales be back is the question?

If I were in your position I'd try and package off Garcon and Mendenhall (sell high!) for a an average RB then pick up some free agent WR. Otherwise I'd probably stick with Garcon. Because you can lose your job due to injury.

Keep the running backs. This year the team with the most able-bodied running backs win. Slim pickings on the waiver wire. WR can be found any week.

I know it's not cheating, just makes me feel as if I am.... but since I'm already cheating, lets keep going....

So you wouldn't trade J. Jones for D. Mason?

What about starting Mendenhall over B.Jacobs? Willie Parker is still dealing with turf toe, Bradshaw will get some touches (as Moore will for Pitt but probably not to the same extent). Jacobs is obviosuly the more reliable of the 2 choices. Jacobs plays a horrible OAK run D (26th) while Mendenhall plays a horrible DET run D (20th). With Mannings injury, I could see an already heavy run game get turned up a notch which makes me think I should stick with the more reliable of the 2. Mendenhall's SNF performance has the gerbils in my head running overtime.

I've looked over your team again and changed my mind. You have two definite starters in Peterson and Jacobs. Your WR core is a bit weak and you really need to play the matchups with them. So I would contain my focus there.

Trading Julius Jones for Derrick Mason does make sense for your team. If anything you have Bush/Mendenhall to fall back on for bye weeks. Plus Julius is anything but reliable. The only game he is a must start, is STL at home. But they've already played that game.

Trade Julius Jones. Keep Garcon. Since your league doesn't keep many reserves, who else is on your waiver wire?

If Parker is a no go. Play Mendenhall. The SD game and the Cleveland game is a great chance for the Steelers to commit to the running game again. I do like Jacobs at home against Oakland though. Oakland's Pass D is pretty decent, plus Eli will be nursing an injury. But if the Giants go up early, I can see Jacobs playing second fiddle to Bradshaw. No need to injure the big fellow.

Sound advice. Appreciated and will follow. I wanted to go after Mason given my lack of depth at WR and all the RB's in my stable.

I have a question. Kevin Smith vs the Steelers, or Thomas Jones vs the Dolphins?
[/quote]

Thomas Jones owns the Dolphins. Two TDs, three 100-total-yard games in last four games vs. MIA. But this isn't the Thomas Jones of the past. He's 30, has pretty gaudy numbers and shares carries.

But Kevin Smith is facing the Steelers. Lions fall behind to the Steelers and will have to throw to catch up.

I'm going with Thomas Jones.

Ya that would be a tricky one for sure. Miami is sporting the second best rush D in the league while Pittsburgh has the 3rd best. Pu-Pu's (thats your new nickname) logic is sound. Can't see DET doing anything as far as points or defense goes. Only difference between the 2 teams is K. Smith is used as an every down back, where L. Washington compliments T. Jones in NYJ run game.

Yo PU-PU - drop R. Bush(NWO) for Cadillac Williams? I'm about to pull the trigger on it unless you can tell me otherwise.

Man these two have similar fantasy situations.
Both are injured-proned. Touches are equal at 50.
Rushing Attempts - Bush 36, Caddy 38
Receptions - Bush 14 , Caddy 12
They both play in the same division, so they both have the same schedule.

Caddy has an edge because he has more promise (if healthy) while Bush this is about all you can expect.
However Bush has an edge because he's on a high scoring offense. While TB sucks.

There's the facts. If Caddy could get 20+ touches the next game I would be sold in a heart beat. But Ward is back from injury.

If it were me. Let's see. I'd probably keep Bush since he's on the Saints. But I'm keeping a real close eye on Caddy. If he gets 20+ carries against the Eagles with ward back. I'd make the switch.

BTW...I'm 4-0 in my Big-Money League (12 teams).

I looked like a genius for picking up the 49ers and starting Mike Sims-Walker. Oh yea....I also got laughed at for drafting Derrick Mason.

LOL - I HAD Sims-Walker - I accidentally dropped him for Pierre Garcon, I meant to drop Lance Moore for Pierre Garcon - BAH.... musta buggered up my coaching rating pretty good for dropping him. I tried to pick him back up but obviously he was on waivers and got snatched up.

Food for thought....
"Bucs offensive coordinator Greg Olson said Wednesday that he thinks "it's time we become more committed to Cadillac Williams as a full-time guy."
"We're going to get him more involved. And...that's on me," Olson said. No wonder Olson's had limited success at this level. What he fails to realize is that Cadillac's running style leaves him susceptible to monster hits, is strenuous on the body, and is designed much better for a pace-change role. It's why Caddy hasn't made it longer than six games in a season since 2006. Owners of Derrick Ward, who will return this week from his knee injury, should be satisfied with Olson's plan. They could have the Bucs' every-down back by midseason."

Not sure if I'd insert Bush into my lineup as a bye week replacement.

That's the problem with Caddy. He's a great back. But he can't sustain the full-time gig. And because he's fragile I can't see him getting goal line carries. Plus the Bucs don't score enough TDs anyways.

But I hear you. I wouldn't trust inserting Bush into my lineup either.

Pick 3
S. Holmes - WR @ DET (23rd Pass D)
K. Walter - WR @ ARI (31st Pass D)
P. Garcon - WR @ TEN (32nd Pass D)
D. Jackson - WR @ TB (16th Pass D)

and who would ya rather in the lineup for bye week replacement? Bush or Cadillac? Im leaning towards Cadillac. Bush is used more as a receiver out of the backfield and doesn't seem to get enough touches to be useful as far as yards go.

A couple of posts ago. I said you must play the matchups with your WR core. Well damn, every one of your WR has the great matchup this week.

You should pick their names out of a hat. That's my suggestion.

I can't truly justify benching any of these guys. My gut says bench Garcon. But then I see he is going against the 32nd rank team. My second gut feeling is bench DeSean. Because the Eagles should get up early and TB is the worse in the league in Rush D. My Third gut feeling is bench Walter, he's a streaky player.

So based on this. I'm going Holmes, Walter and DeSean.

Garcon has not had more than 3 reception in any game. He's been lucky getting long reception TDs in two games. Plus TENN needs to play inspired ball against a division foe, if they want to keep any hope this season.

Ouch. Did you win? These receivers all had great matchups and failed miserably.

S. Holmes - 50 ReYd, 4 Recpt - 9 FFP
K. Walter - 1 RuYd, 37 ReYd, 4 Recpt - 7 FFP
D. Jackson - ReYd, Recpt - 1 FFP
P. Garcon - 9 ReYd, Recpt - 1 FFP

But my guess at Holmes then Walter then DeSean was technically correct.

Man o man - can u say worst fantasy performance EVER by any of my teams.
J. Flacco QB 186 PaYd, PaTD (48), 2 PaInt, 9 RuYd 9 FPS (Shoulda started Warner)
B. Jacobs RB 67 RuYd, 8 ReYd 6 FPS (Bradshaw went mental)
A. Peterson RB 69 RuYd, 2 RuTD (5,7), 6 ReYd 18 FPS
C. Cooley TE 0 FPS
D. Akers K FG (44), 4 XP 7 FPS
Ravens DST 17 PA, 403 YDS, DTD (52), Int, DFR, SACK 15FPS

63 Total = JEEEE WHIZZZZ! now that hurts

Another close one. But Thomas Jones takes the cake thanks to his two TDs. Looks like Jones is their goaline back.
