I love number 6...

"With his offensive line and the league's roughing-the-passer rules, Tom Brady is the best-protected quarterback in football. (Clayton)"[/i]

Ravens drop to 7 though.

Not surprising. The Ravens had to drop a few spots. I don't really care about the rankings but they should move back up after halting Cincy's momentum Sunday.

Denver's boards must be going crazy looking for respect. They are 4-0 and yet the Ravens and Pats are ahead of them, as they should be.

They have to give the Jets something. Because lord knows they aren't going to bring home a Superbowl. Once the AFC East starts figuring out Rex on a regular basis. And the "Rex" effect wears off in NY. They are still going to suck. Because that's what they do.

I have two theories.

First, is because their defense played so well against the best offense in football.

Second, is because they wanted to put teams who won in a head-to-head above the team they beat but also wanted to account for overall record. Thats why the Patriots are right above us and the Jets are right above them and the Saints are right above them. Above the Saints are all the 4-0 teams except for the Broncos who should fall back down to earth with a gigantic thud this week against New England.

That's mostly fair - an argument could be made that the Jets could be a bit lower, but it's mostly a toss-up at this point. I like the spot. It keeps the Ravens lurking and ready to pounce on those above it. Lurking and hungry.

Good, keep us flying under the radar so we can surprise everyone later in the season.

Flying under the radar and surprising everyone went out the window already, when you were already talked about being in the AFC Championship with the Patriots.

I think your second point is right on. Really, if win/loss records are the same or close, there's not much else to go on but head-to-head.

We'll see, because I'm expecting if the Steelers start picking it back up then the talk is going to shift to them breaking the Madden Curse and Superbowl hangover. Of course, that will all change if the Ravens notch a W on November 29.

My thoughts exactly. Im pretty certain everyone in the league knows who the Ravens are.

We still have a long way to improve. But we are still young and our defense is still getting used to the system. It's one game. I'm not worried about it.

Technically, yes, the Broncos are 4-0, but I think ESPN, et al. are actually "punishing" Denver because of their weak schedule and that miracle win to go along with that. Even so, only giving up 26 points in 4 games is something to praise.

I agree with AFC North blogger James Walker, this stream-lined Power Rankings process is leading to some VERY fickle rankings week to week. How does losing to the Patriots in Foxboro by less than a touchdown result in plummeting down 7 ranks, after they say you're the best team in the league?

I know right. We were two catches away from remaining #1. But those two catches dropped us to #6. And the fact that we went into New England says a whole lot more.

The Jets went into NO and lost without a fighting chance the last couple minutes. But they increased.

Funny you guys say the 4-0 Broncos don't deserve to be ahead of us saying they haven't beat anyone major when the only major team we beat was the Chargers. ......Well hopefully Cam Cameron will take the advice of the analysts and fans and keep the main focus on the run game instead of throwing 47 passes in a game and only running the ball 17 times...

Rankings :18_1_328: , spankings :deadhorse: , I dont see how any of us can get twisted up into this ranking discussion again. Bottom line is we just came off a disapointing loss, one which we had many opportunities to win. (I say we, I think you know what I mean). The Ravens certainly are not concerned with these rankings, why should we as fans. Most of the time they are inacurate, unsubstantiated, meaningless, opinionated pieces of crap that dont define the quality of a team. Even after this last loss to NE I still feel like there isnt one game left on the schedule that through great preparation and execution that we cant walk away with the win. I am very proud of the way our boys fought it out with a " superbowl calibre team". NOTE: previous quote is opinion, not necessarily mine. So I guess in my own little way I feel we are ranked A Contending Team, one not to be taken lightly. :225:

I can't say that I'm surprised by this. We knew the loss would have to come eventually and that will always affect these oh so important power rankings.

Who's going to figure them out? The Dolphins are pretty much going nowhere, the Bills are getting there even faster. The Patriots will probably punish them in their next meeting, but that's only one team.

I am expecting and eagerly awaiting their demise, but they seem to have held their own with the Saints offense (didn't watch the game, so correct me if I'm wrong), and we all know what they did to the Patriots and the Texans. So now I'm beginning to wonder if that defense might be "who they thought they were" so to speak... for this year at least.

Of course, on the other hand we all know the sorry history of Ravens DCs turned HCs (see Marvin Lewis) and the Jets looked like they were going somewhere last year too, so we'll just have to wait and see.

I really don;t give a rats-a** about the ESPN power rankings. My guess is that the Ravens don;t even read the rankings. They know who they are and everyone else will figure it out by the end of the regular season.

Speakin of Denver, its just funny :229031_rofl: to see how happy they are right now. The coach and disgruntled receiver hugging at a press conference--> Now they're best friends! lol. They had the same reaction as the Lions after winning their 1st game. I dont blame them for their happiness. Its just hilarious how people react in ways you dont expect.

Rankings, so arbitrary.

Like many here, I like it when we are flying under the radar. Makes us more dangerous (as with the other AFCN teams).

Why do people keep saying that? No he isn't. I mean, he's not hideous or anything but he's not jaw-dropping gorgeous either.

As for the rankings, I'd rather be underestimated. It's too entertaining watching the writers scramble to jump back on the bandwagon.
