Warn Status

23 posts in this topic

The warn status that you see keeps track of the warnings that are issued to you if you violate the rules. If you are issued a warning, the bar will begin to fill.

Stay in the Code of Conduct and you will be fine, the biggies are Smack talk, ALL CAPS, profanity and sig sizes.

I got a warn status from Darklight. :th_consoling2: I ended up needing therapy. I've learned my lesson.....breathe when watching the Steelers.

But how long does a warn status stay for? Is it a time period or is it a number of posts?

It depends. General rule of thumb is a month minimum, but it depends largely on good behavior and the severity of the violation. It's a judgment call and also depends on the prior history of the poster. Long-time posters who've been behaved for their entire history will generally get more leniency for a first violation (if minor enough) than a newbie. Newer members, we're harder on since they need to learn and learn fast or else they won't last long here.

I'd have to say my warn status stuck around for a few days maybe a week at most. Can't really recall but it wasn't too long.

So is there like an option of warnings to choose from? Or does the person who issues the warning have to reduce it over time?

Don't ask me why I need to know this, I'm just an info junkie.

Yours was a short punishment since you have had a long history of good posting, and didn't have any flare-ups in the days following it.

There are options to either hand out a usual warning of 1 point, or add a custom level; we rarely touch the custom level (at least I haven't) since one incident is a singular offense in of itself.

The warnings have to be reduced manually, so some people who have old violations may never have their warnings reduced or removed despite good behavior. We try to hit people with reductions whenever we notice good postings from people with hits on their warning level on occasion, but we don't actively do it until a poster asks us to. We handle it case-by-case.

In addition to warnings, we can place people on Moderator Preview so that we look at their posts before they become visible to others; this is particularly done with suspected spammers or trolls, and problem posters. We can also outright disable members' posting ability (they can lurk but can't post) and then the last resort is to ban or suspend an account.

Filling up a warning level to 100% is an automatic ban. That doesn't happen often over the course of someone's posting history, but let's just say it's happened recently...

Very interesting stuff. Thanks for the moderating lesson. BTW, I think I know the banned member who one day just snapped. Entertaining nevertheless.

Man, I would hate to become a "Lurk".

You had the misfortune of being hit by 3 mods at the time 2 new ones were learning the system AT THE SAME TIME . When it was figured out what happened it quickly went away :th_shame: . A sig violation goes away as soon as the offending signature is gone/acknowledged by the poster. Everyone that posted over the summer had their warnings checked and backed down if warranted. Usually the game thread is given some leeway so do the 24 hrs after a loss-- we delete a ton of stuff. We really don't like banning or warning people.

So I got three warnings? That's pretty sweet. That's plenty of reason for me to buy a Harley and become a bad ******. I'm surprised I wasn't instantly banned or regulated a "lurk".

I bet after a loss. When tempers are flared and people insulting others left and right, plenty of moderation is needed. I only get that way when it comes down to the Steelers winning. I despise them with a passion. Hell they even made me leave the board over the summer - I was so disgusted with football.

Like always keep up the good work!

I could not exactly figure what YOU of all people did :th_327321_Spy_23x22:

Unsportsmanlike conduct.....and I was one of the three Mods that hit you for it at the same exact time....that was why the warning went from zero to 100% with one infraction.

We did however notice and correct it right away.

On a side note. Do you guys get to see what is under the profanity filters. Or does it just show up as **********************?

We don't see what's under the profanity filters; the filters reject the words before they're visible.

So ****** that **** shows up as the same for you as it does for us.

We have a trash pile where deleted posts/threads go to die, and we filled up roughly two pages with the fallout from the loss to the Pats. Not only that, but I even merged quite a few of those together, so imagine how many pages we would've filled without any merging. -_-

Now THAT would be a fun thread to read. Ofcourse I do read posts pretty fast, so I've probably read most of it. Just never in such a chaotic fashion.

Oh no its not, it never ceases to amaze me what some people will post and a lot of it is anatomically impossible.

What's even funnier is I was in there merging them, too. Can you imagine the pages that would have been filled?

I think we should start considering a gameday chatroom, have multiple chat rooms open during gameday and the draft.
