Grade Our Team

27 posts in this topic

Once again, we faced an undefeated Patriots team (at home 17-0) and we lost in the clutch.

Here's my letter grades:

Defense: There is no excuse for our play. Going into the game we had no Red Zone Rushing TD's, now we have 2. Not only that. It made me cringe watching the drive chart, drive after drive. Brady drove down the field, not contest. D+

Offense: Joe Cool did good once again, although that one interception wasn't needed. Besides that, he drove down the field in the final minute. Can't blame him for a receiver drop. Ray Rice performed very well, O-Line held up for the most part. Suffice to say, I think what position we're going to draft first in the 2010 draft. C+

Special Teams: Pathetic way to open the kickoff. Thankfully it didn't end up in a touchdown. One mistake from special teams isn't the end of the world, you expect that in a game. It wasn't in the clutch, therefore I don't blame the game on Carr. Webb had a good kick return. C-

Referee Duties: Fail.

Overall C-

Not the end of the world, we're still atop the AFC North and will be trying to control it next week against the Bungles.

Considering C is average and we got a C-. We were considered in Week 4 power rankings number 1. I think you ratings are inaccurate.

I'll give a C+ for our overall team effort. A team hasn't moved the ball like that against New England all season, not even Buffalo in Week 1. The Pats were sweating bullets on defense. Randy Moss was frustrated because he was covered almost all game long. I say, minus getting the victory obviously, mission accomplished.

Walked into the home of the three-time champs, and pissed them off. I loved it, except for the score.

I'm just grading today's performance. Our whole season so far would be a solid A.

I'd much rather give players grades:

Chris Carr - F
Mark Clayton - F
Derrick Mason - B+
Joe Flacco - B
Suggs - B
Foxworth - C
Rice - A-
JJ - A-
Lewis - C

That fake FG pass was NOT a first down. I don't know what they were looking at to give it to them, but I don't blame Harbaugh for challenging that.

Big part of the game.

Definitely, if I was a teacher, and all these categories were students. I would have to suspend the Refs from school indefinitely and call their parents to ensure they get beat at home.

We made too many mistakes when it counted. Almost all of the pats TDs came on roughing the passer 3rd downs (that were correct according to the rules however messed up they may be).

This is a chin-up lose.

There were a lot of positives. A lot. We went into NE and should have came away with a win (damn you Clayton!) despite having so many costly calls. The Pats were hungry for this win.

This lose was just a sour loss. Because we could be celebrated a win right now.

Definitely, this isn't a hang your head loss.

it's one loss because of key plays, not because of fundamentals. We're still the same #1 team in the league.

Just our luck we get the pats when they start to get their stuff together. coming soon Pittsburgh where the other troy gets his sea legs back.

Also losing Gaither was crucial.

Everyone except Ray Rice, Jarrett Johnson, Jared Gaither Derrick Mason, LeRon McClain, and Willis McGahee gets a big fat F.

Ray gets an A. He was the best player on the field today, hands down.

JJ gets a B.

Jared Gaither gets an A+.

Derrick gets a B, he started hot but faded away.

LeRon and Willis, dont get graded because we didnt see enough of either of them to give them one. So, they dont get a good grade but they dont get the F that the rest of the team gets.

Coaching /Play Calling C-
Im glad you brought up the point I wanted to mention, but a C- is extremly generous.

If we would have ran the ball in the first half like we should have, this game would have been dont by the 3rd quarter.

I give them an F for play calling.

Remember Cam/John... running and d wins games, not throwing 47 times on the road.

Not to start this whole mess all over again, but if a certain someone makes a catch, then I'm sure a lot of these grades shoot through the roof.
We played our hearts out, almost pulled off a come from behind victory (anyone see that Brady was 72-1 when leading after the third quarter?).

We did a lot of things right today. Many positives that can be taken from this game, not just a bunch of F's.

I give us an A+ for effort, B- for performance, and C+ for overall execution. Much room for improvement, but that's always the case.

70 and 1 thats a big number. Anyways there is no need to panic, this game reminds me of the titans game from last year. Its gonna be a lot more sweeter when we beat them in the playoffs.

Disagree with the defense grade. Hard to give them a D+ when the refs are screwing themover and Harbaugh's mouth is causing them to go against a 15 yard free play. Also they scored a touchdown, so i would say B-. It was an elite offense we played not the Browns or Chiefs.

Defense= (C+)They had a few 3 and outs disrupted Moss ALL DAY and Moss only scored because Foxworth was alone when the Ravens did the FS blitz with Reed. Ravens D also put 6 on the board that kept the Ravens in the game. In the 4th the Ravens got the offense a 3 and out so they could win the game. WOuld have like to see better redzone protection.

Offense B Moved the ball well all game would have like to see more runs and Flacco was well on his way to a 3rd TD if not for the dropped ball

Special Teams(C-) Coverage was great but that fumble from Carr put 3 on the board for the Patriots with out them even trying.

Refs(D+) We had some calls go our way but they were never on critical downs like the Patriots had....

My grades:

The secondary --> F

Everyone else --> A-
Secondary gets a F? The only reason why TB had a passing TD was because Reed blitzed in leaving Foxworth by himself. Moss is very difficult to cover 1 on 1 without being a top CB.

The Ravens will never be an elite team until they stop defeating themselves against real elite teams.

Special teams disaster continues (more to come on this front) turnovers dropped passes penalties a defense that at times looked lost....

Posting from mobile devices stinks...hit post before I could finish.

Anyway, it isn't a disaster. The offense played fairly well, I would give a B (only for a coule of miscues.

Special Teams C-. only in C range because their coverage has been outstanding. They need a returner.

Defense C+. There were a lot of baloney penalties, which would have made their stats a little better. Brady did make plays, which is to be expected. Overall I think they played better than most would think.

Overall, well...for effort I give an A. Otherwise it was a C+ day.

I stand by the original post, in that these mistakes will be costly against elite teams. This must be addressed, and I beleive that, as the season goes on, it will.

Exactly, when you grade our performance you got to take into account the opposition! The performance we put in yesterday would have been more than enough for the win against the majority of the other teams in the NFL! And in that case your grades would be a lot different.

I'm not saying our performance was excellent, but it wasn't as bad as most are making out.

The officiating and the decision making by Harbaugh however, is another story!

This is a game that the Patriots were fortunate to win. If anything, this game showed the league that the Ravens are an elite team that must be reckoned with down the stretch. I wish we'd picked up the "W", but this game makes me very optimistic for the rest of the season.
