Merged: Ravens Getting Too Much/Not Enough Love?

36 posts in this topic

We are number one in the Espn power rankings and we get media attention as if we were 0-3. (Despite Joe Flaccos interview with Mike and Mike in the Morning) If the cowboys or Eagles were ranked #1 they would be all over it. Can anybody explain to me why the media dislikes or just doesnt care for the Ravens as much as other teams?

Actually, I've seen a lot of coverage about the Ravens lately. Lots of front-page headlines on ESPN.com and SI.com and NFL.com, and quite a few mentions of the team on NFL Network. A little too much coverage for my liking...

And you're talking to an out-of-state fan here who literally has a laptop at all times at class or work or at home, and is always on the sports websites waiting for breaking news. I'm always paying attention to these things.

Where have you been, man? The Ravens are taking the world by storm! B)

Okay, it's not quite there yet, but the media has been giving the team plenty of attention. A flashy offense like we have will always get love from the talking heads.

oh lol. I guess I need to pay more attention. I just was watching NFL Replay and it showed all the games recaps, averaging around 6-8 min per game, and then they just Recapped the Ravens game in 20 seconds. Then everytime I turn on sportscenter, the left scroll bar never has Ravens. : (

Not all of us out-of-state fans get MASN. ;)

Well, truth be told, that was a pretty boring game for non-Ravens fans. "How'd the game go?" "Killed the Browns." "Didn't see that one coming."

Everytime I turn on NFL network, all I hear about is Joe Flacco and the Patriots offense versus the Ravens D, and so on and so forth.

I have basically been layed up for the past 2 months with nothing to do but watch all the sports channels on tv and surf every sports page on my lap top. Up till about a week or so ago coverage of our Ravens has been sub par to most teams. Since we have gone 3 0 and lit up the offensive stat board we have been the talk of the Nation! I liked it at first only because I thought the way you did. But now I wish we could continue to win and stay under the radar. It was always nice being underrated. Those days are gone for now. :225:

ESPN gives me a headache so I avoid their site but SI has a nice bit from Ross Tucker about the Ravens. Don Banks is usually fair but don't expect much about us from Peter King. One, he has a serious man-crush on the Chargers and two, just about everyone he picks to win the big games doesn't. Don't get me wrong, I like his writing for the most part but I would very much prefer he stay far, far away from the Ravens.

We have been getting more coverage than we normally do, but, who needs it. I prefer the "flying under the radar" but that is not going to last when we keep playing as well as we are.

I think its great that every time I read an article, watch a clip, or listen to Sirius Blitz, Adam shows nothing but love for our newest star in Baltimore to sport the number 5. Just read one on NFL ON FOX, he is predicting Flacco to outperform Brady. He does go on to say that he thinks Brady is still Brady but he, Moss, and the rest of their offense just are not clicking yet. :225:

I think the ravens have been getting plenty of coverage since they went 3-0.
Though I too believe that at the beginning of the year they were not given the level of respect that a team who went to AFC championship should receive. I think that has more to with the Raven's inability to post back to back winning seasons the past few years.
We were not "predictable" enough for the media
Now that the team has shown it is for real this year ESPN & SI will start jumping on the bandwagon.

We've gotten a lot of glowing praise as of late.
Personally, I don't see why people care so much about "recognition" and having the media hanging on our gonads.

is it just me, or I am seeing too much "baltimore ravens" all over the espn nfl page? I mean, I know the game up against NE is big, but so big that it needs 3-4 headlines on the page? Idk, just seems like a jynx to me, either way, it feels wierd for the team who I've followed all this time to get all this attention out of no where.

:empty trophy case:
doesn't get old.

I don't know about you guys, but I don't care for all the publicity the Ravens are getting. I've always been a fan of the flying under the radar. Just my 2 cents.

8 out of 8 ESPN analyst picked the Raven's to beat the Pat's. How much more love should we get?
thats weird cause every analyst I've read/heard (I dont get/watch ESPN) are taking the Pats. I (in a betting capacity) am going to be tying up Ravens to win and to tie (withing 3 pts of eachother) on a bunch of tickets

Here's the official ESPN count plus Nation
8 out of 10 pick Ravens. Only Jaworski and Schefter picked against us.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/picks

On a side note, it's kind of weird how unanimous the picks are this week.

why fly under the radar...i like winning!

steelers get the least coverage of any team this yr....but they always get they can bounce back love. But the steelers love has always been an undercurrent of "real" football fans that don't care for the NFC east and all the flash etc.

Ravens need the media cuz we only been around since 96' and we don't have an undercurrent fanbase. we are still building a fanbase.

redskins...no matter how much they suck get more media coverage and primetime games for doing nothing simply cuz they play in the NFC east. Just like vanderbilt in the SEC getting night games for doing nothing.

I think it's because the media wants to believe that another team (like the Ravens) can rise up and be the "sleeper" pick in the playoffs this season. I say "sleeper" only because people assumed, coming into this season, that the Steelers would have an easy title defense because their strength of schedule is on par with ours (ESPN link), and ours was pretty soft to begin with (28th toughest/5th easiest schedule.) So far, even though it's only been three games, the schedule has been surprisingly tough for Pittsburgh.

Additionally, Joe Flacco's continued success makes for a great media story. He's unassuming and likeable, and he and Matt Ryan appear to be the poster children for a new Golden Age of QBs. If Flacco and Ryan are the catalyst for a new era of quarterbacking, then they would be the Tom Brady & Peyton Manning of the next generation. That story, in itself, is gold all the way as it'd practically write itself. Even right now could be considered a Golden Age, if you look at all the big-name QBs in the league:

Tom Brady
Peyton Manning
Philip Rivers
Drew Brees
Joe Flacco
Matt Ryan
Brett Favre
Eli Manning
Aaron Rodgers
Donovan McNabb
Ben Roethlisberger
Carson Palmer
Tony Romo
Jay Cutler

So many decent passers, and a couple of them haven't even hit their prime yet, while others are in it or just past it.

We're definitely getn sum love from the media. Especially from Nfl Network. As far as film, they (Nfl Network) show the games we've lost. None of us wants to see that! But predictions and highlights, the Ravens are usually the 1st topic of discussion.

I actually don't mind that the Ravens don't get that much coverage, the less the opponent knows about us the better. I get a feeling when teams outside our division play us they tend to underestimate us.
