The ORIOLES have signed Chad Moeller to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training. They declined his 850,000 club option.
Moeller batted .258 with two homers and 10 RBIs in 30 games (28 starts) for Baltimore last season, while serving as the backup to Gregg Zaun and, eventually, Matt Wieters.

With the winter meetings coming starting tomorrow. The orioles have stated their focus is a closer, with hopes of moving Johnson back into his set-up role.

Also the Orioles are looking for corner infielders.Wanting a right handed hitting first baseman and a good stopgap third basemen to give Bell and Snyder a little more time to develop. With TY W igginton returning tjhey have coverage if only able to fill one of those slots.

A vetern starter is also in the sights. To help aid Guthrie next year in the development of our young starters. We had the most inexperienced rotation last year.

With Izturis in his final year of his 2 year deal the Orioles are looking for a long term shortstop. Now Izturis brings the defense but is lacking offense.I guess the Orioles want a shortstop who excells in both.Personally I was happy with Izturis last year we need that defense.

Who they can or need to trade.
Luke Scott could be on the trading block due to the emergence of Nolan Reimold and Felix Pie last year. And if that trend continues then Luke could also lose at-bats at the DH side. The 30 year old Scott could provide an inexpensive left-handed power source to the right team.

To contradict what was just said Felix Pie could also be traded due to the fact he is primarily a CF.We have Adam Jones, but I feel we shouold keep Pie to keep depth for Left and Center,Pie batted .290 with 7 homeruns after the All Star break.

Jeremy Guthrie-To say Gutrhrie took a step backwards last year is an under statement. He rarely showed control that he showed in the previous season and led the League in homeruns given up.

David Hernandez-Hernandez showed signs of a good pitcher last year but also surrendered 27 homeruns in 20 appearences. The Orioles could move him into the bullpen or he could be a back end starter for a National League team. With Bergesen,Matusz, and Tillman in front of him,he would probably get to shine elsewhere.

Top Prospects-SP Jake Arrieta, SP Zach Britton, SP Matt Hobgood, 1B Snyder, 3B Bell, 3B Brandon Waring, SS Mychal Givens, OF Xavier Avery.

The payroll -The Orioles have seen great relief in the salary department thanks to expiring obligations due to Ramon Hernandez, Jamie Walker and Jay Gibbons and the free-agent defections of Mora and Baez. Baltimore's payroll was virtually cut in half by those losses, allowing the Orioles to sink a substantial investment into the free-agent market. Baltimore could also use its financial flexibility to swing a deal for an expensive veteran on another club's roster.

I like the Millwood signing, even if he only gets us 12-15 wins, he can mentor these young guys into professional ball players and not just "throwers" I'm guessing Koji will be the long man in the pen?

MAtt Albers had a horrible year but for that kind of cash, I guess its an OK deal. I wish we could have kept the Brim Reaper!

I'm kind of sad we couldn't hold onto Steve Johnson, he was picked up in the Rule 5 draft by the Giants. So, we basically got Josh Bell for Sherril...hmmmm.

I don't think Johnson will stick on the Giants 25 man roster for a long time. He will eventually be cut lose.

Orioles also have signed Garrett Atkins who is 1b/3b on a one year deal,it looks like wiggy and atkins could split time on the corners.wonder if anyone else on there radar?
For his seven-year career -- spent entirely in Colorado -- Atkins is a .289 hitter, with 98 home runs. He has spent the majority of his time at third base but has also registered 105 games at first base.
Orioles still rumored to be looking at Dan Uggla and moving him to third also.

won't happen. Its just some lip service to make it appear that they care. The goal is to get to .500 not to actually compete in this division. They're making big money regardless.

I really like the Atkins deal... would like the Uggla deal even more; not a fan of wiggy and I think it would be a very wise decision to part ways with Luke now, while he still has some value.

A guy I was really interested in going in to the offseason was Khalil Greene.. any contract/status updates on him?

Khali Greene is still out there no one has picked him up yet.
Wiggy for some reason just looks like a ball player i like him i think given more play time couold be a great player
as much as i would hate to see cool luke leave i think your right he has some value now McPhail is making some moves....but remember we have a 1b and 3b in minors in Bell and Snyder so I don't think they are looking to sign long-term corner men.
B-Rob was on anita the other day and said he feels the Orioles are one-two years away from high level free agents waning to come to Baltimore. Also he is friends with Holliday and was skeptical about him coming to Baltimore.
Interesting season this year will be but until we start winning to where peaople will want to come here we will have trouble competing with boston and the yanks.
i think we could have winning records if we weren't in the east truthfully it's an evil division.

I'm all for signing Carlos Delgado for a 1 year deal.

If Delagdo is healthy in 2010 I think he can still hit 25 + homers.

I wouldn't mind signing Delgado for a year, but no more than that. If he doesn't perform the first two months, they should call up Snyder immediately. I also don't see Delgado hitting 25+ home runs right now in his career, especially in the AL East.I would be happy with a 1 year deal though.

I agree, I wouldn't go more than a year. Carlos is 37 and is getting up there in age. I'm curious as to if he is fully healthy, if so I think he could be productive for us for 1 year. In his last full season he hit 38 homers in 2008. If we get him I think he could still hit 20 or more depending on his health. The AL East is a very tough division, but I think a veteran like Delagdo could handle it.

I also wouldn't mind Adam LaRoche for a year, but I have been hearing that he wants 3 year $30 million dollar contract. I'd be willing to go on a one year deal with a team option. Since we have Snyder coming up shortly 3 years for LaRoche wouldn't totally make sense.

We have a lot of young talent coming up through the ranks that I'm real excited about, hopefully we can compete soon.

If Matusz and Tillman step up and Bergy continues to improve, we could realistically get back into 4th place, maybe even 3rd! (note the sarcasm).

it's possible with Guthrie and Millwood there to mentor,I really don't think Guthrie will have a year like last year,he showed how good he can be down the stretch,Bergusen will definitly booster some wins,Tillman looked very good at times but his location of the strikezone was awful in some of his outings, and Matusz yeah think maybe 75 wins at least ...I hope

Okay. :)
I understood your opinion. There are many Russians in USA, aren`t they?
ravens27. Yeah, inspite of that fact that there is CHL in Russia (league, where Jagr, Thornton and many stars, especially from Russia, like Kozlov, Fedorov and etc play), people follow NHL, and NBA too... As for me, i watch only NHL, because the level in NHL is high, and after national league matches i can not watch russian hockey, that bores me...
Well, there is olimpic games in Vancouver soon, then Russia will beat every country i hope in hockey :))) after two wins over Canada, and with Ovechkin and Malkin and Kovalchuk... =)
To tell the truth, i can`t remember why i became Ravens fan... seriously, i don`t remember.
May be because of Baltimore, where Phelps trains, may be i saw Ray Lewis and he impressed me, may be because i learnt that Ravens have the strongest defense...
До скорой встречи, друг! :)

Good luck to you ;)
