Just heard that Dave Trembley will be back at the helm next year. Do you think he is the man to move us into contention? I am not sure but since the break we really stunk it up. Granted we had some injuries, brought up some young guns, and traded away some good talent, but man I dont want to face the unlucky 13 in a row with the same sloppy skipper. Time to bring in a real coach. :34853_brickwall: :34853_brickwall: :34853_brickwall:

yeah was about to post this is orioles thread so please any oriole news you have please post there so we can have less posts about the o's floating around.
It's not all Trembly's fault we lost alot of close games due to mental errors and really ouor pitching stunk the joint up.As an Oriole fan i too am growing tired of the losing but I still love watching this team for the talent we do have(Roberts,Markakis,Jones, and so on and our newer blood in Reimold,Weiters, and Aubrey)Next year we will have Bergesen back hopefully Tilman, and Hernandez will get their location situated and Guthrie can show that he is a good starter.

Sorry about the location of the post Wasnt sure about that. I agree with you that too many mistakes but sometimes a good leader will help minumize those. At least we have an excellant base team, lots of pitching prospects. I am always excited for the next year in hopes of a turnaround...Like I said last year, and the year before that, and the year before that, and the yeah you get the picture, Maybe next year!!! :fireworks3:

I bet the rotation at the beginning will be in no particular order, Guthrie Hernandez Matusz Tillman Bergesen.

Bergesen might take our ace spot he good enough to but then again maybe we buy an arm?.......

Another idiot move by Peter Angelos. Hes just as bad Bob Irsay was in Baltimore. If O's fans would just refuse to suport the O's and get attendance Way down like under 5,000 a game and upper level empty and let Peter Move the team we will get a Better team here or maybe the Mets might move to Baltimore. The last game the Baltimore Colts were in Baltimore was vs Houston Oilers 1983 there were only 17,000 fans at Memorial Stadium and the seats in the End zones were just empty. At Least the Baltimore Colts fans were smart enough noty to give MR Irsay your money. Why cant O's fans just learn that? Boy i do wish Mr Angelos take his O's would just the hell outta Baltimore. Some one please make a Banner hang it over Left Field upper deck and tell Mr Angelos just get out of town.

I think this team has a bright future.... though I have been saying that the last two years. I also said the O's were going to make the playoffs..... shows what I know. Glad to see them end the seaosn on a high note with a 4 game winning streak.

I like the idea of them usually not getting anybody in Free Agency but I think they should try to bring in a good veteran in the rotation to balance out the young rotation we have. I also like the new guy they have at 1st in Michael Aubrey, I believe our 1st base issues are solved. I also wouldn't mind if they brought in just one good hitter from Free Agency to go along with Mora, Markakis, Adams and Wieters. They have potential to at least get to 3-5 games over .500 next season.

Here's what I think needs to happen in 2010 for the Orioles:
1) Get rid of Melvin Mora- He's long in the tooth, and had a very underwhelming season. We have a prospect IF that looks to be the heir apparent, until then, make Ty Wiggington the everyday 3B.

2) Keep the rotation young- Bergesen, Tillman, Matuz, either Hernandez or Berken, Guthrie.

3) Give Guthrie one last chance- if he returns to his 07-08 form, great, if he's 09 Guthrie, send him on his way.

4) If we need to sign/trade for anyone, it needs to be a legitimate clean-up power hitter. We have had none since Tejada left (and he was 'roided up anyways). I don't know who we could get, but resigning Aubrey Huff is NOT the answer. Maybe make a deal for Adrian Gonzolas or Adam Dunn.

5) Lock up young talent long term- Markakis, Roberts, Weiters all have solid contracts, but guys like Bergesen, Tillman, Matuz, Reimold need to be sured up.

6) Re-sign Luke Scott- he's the closest thing we have to a clean-up hitter, nothing long-term though.

I disagree with the closer situation. We have 2 viable options in Chris Ray and Jim Johnson. I think Dave Trembley is the best skipper the Orioles have had since Earl Weaver, that being said, I give him another year to make some progress, if not, send him packing. As I've said before, what the team is lacking is a legitimate power hitter and a true pitching ace (I think this can be Brad Bergesen, I'd feel more confident if he hadn't gotten hurt and I saw him pitch the rest of the season).

Jim Johnson showed he was very shakey down the stretch as a closer he blew some saves of course our whole bullpen looked shakey Johnson was 10 for 16 in save opportunities.could be our closer but i like him more as our setup guy.,one or two i can see it happens, but it got to the point if he didnt have a 3 run lead to save he blew it,Ray could be a good option but after the surgery last year i think he needs to find that groove again,he showed it in spurts but then he would get razzled then rocked.

Orioles prospects are gaining some notice in the AFL.The Orioles prospects -- Brandon Erbe, Eddie Gamboa, Josh Perrault, Ryohei Tanaka, Josh Bell, Brandon Snyder, Brandon Waring and Matt Angle.
Third baseman Bell leads the entire AFL with a .533 batting average (8-for-15) along with five RBIs, and Snyder, a first baseman, isn't too far behind, batting .409 (9-for-22) with a home run and five RBIs. As for the other position players, Angle -- a speedy 24-year-old outfielder -- is hitting .294 with a home run, seven RBIs and three steals; and Waring, a 23-year-old corner infielder is batting .231 (3-for-13) with a home run and three RBIs.
The 21-year-old Erbe, has made just one start so far, throwing two perfect innings while striking out two. Gamboa, 24, has given up one earned run on two hits in a 2 1/3-inning relief appearance; Perrault, a 27-year-old, has given up one run in 3 1/3 innings (a 2.70 ERA) while striking out three and walking one; and the 26-year-old Tanaka has given up three earned runs in five innings (a 5.40 ERA) while walking one and striking out six.

well it's official the Orioles have declined Melvin Mora's option. http://baltimore.orioles.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20091029&content_id=7574726&vkey=news_bal&fext=.jsp&c_id=bal
that means Brian Roberts is now the longest tenured Oriole. Also we picked up bench coach Jeff Datz who was formely with the Indians as bench coach before there whole coaching staff was fired.

Mora's 2009 season was an injury plagued season and he started to turn it on at the end,he was a great 3B for us and while it may have been time I am kinda sad to see him go.Thanks Melvin for the time you put into the Orioles organization.

Angelos needs to spend money on quality Free Agents or we can say hello to a 13th straight losing season, and a 4th, or more likely, 5th place finish..

This news is a few days old but the Orioles claimed right-hander Armando Gabino from the Twins. This gives the Orioles 34 players of their 40 man roster now.Gabino, 26, made his big league debut against the Orioles last August and got hit hard. Gabino allowed seven earned runs across two appearances, good for a 17.18 ERA in his brief Major League exposure. He's proven to be successful in the Minor Leagues, though, notching a 22-19 career record and a 3.41 ERA. Aparrently the though is him competing for the long relief job in spring training but,wow those stats aren't promising.
We have 6 spots left on the roster go get Matt Holliday!Jason Bay is also out there but really do we need another OF even tho it could save us a DH spot to.

Type A free agents are players who rank in the upper 20% of their respective position groups under the statistical system of ranking players set forth by the Elias Sports Bureau, using statistics based on a two-year average for each respective position group. Type B free agents rank in the upper 40%, but not in the upper 20%.

Clubs receive compensation if they lose a player classified as a Type A or Type B free agent. If a club loses a Type A free agent, it receives a first-round Draft pick (second-round pick if the signing team is selecting in the first 15 picks overall) plus a sandwich pick between the first and second rounds. If a club loses a Type B free agent, it receives a sandwich pick between the first and second rounds.

The club only receives compensation if the player signs elsewhere before Dec. 1 or is offered arbitration and declines.

No matter how much money we throw their way, Matt Holliday and Jason Bay aren't coming to the Orioles. We have a very talented and young OF as it is, and both of them were on playoff teams last year and will want to either stay where they are or go to another contender. Adam LaRoche is a viable option, although he's spent his career in the National League and a lot of times power hitters like LaRoche, especially lefties, have a hard time transitioning to the American League. Brad Penny and John Lackey are two pitchers I'd like to see the Orioles persue. Penny sucked with Boston, but in SF, he was tearing it up. I can see Penny being more likely to sign with us, Lackey will want to stay with a contender.

I was surprised Jones got it really but if you look at it the past 9 years I believe Ichiro and Tori Hunter have gotten 2 of the 3 so the fact that Jones was able to sneak in and get one was cool even tho Markakis was more deserving imo.Jones does make some outstanding catches tho so maybe not .

Um the Tigers said they will not resign Jerrod Washburn or Aubrey Huff. Why do I have a feeling Huff will be back in Baltimore next year.I liked Aubrey when he was here but he isn't the answer to our first base option.Washburn on the other hand might be a good arm to pick up.

Winter Meetings start up Sunday in Indy.MacPhail as said he will adree the corner situation for 1st and 3rd base beginning there. The Orioles have been linked to free agent third basemen Adrian Beltre and Pedro Feliz in various reports, and a veteran like Troy Glaus or Joe Crede could become attractive in a short-term deal. The market for first base seems a little more barren, with Carlos Delgado, Nick Johnson and Adam LaRoche standing out.

The Orioles will also be looking to add a veteran starting pitcher to help support its youth-filled staff. There are several interesting names available, such as Randy Wolf, Rich Harden, Ben Sheets and Erik Bedard. They could also look into veterans like Pedro Martinez and Jarrod Washburn if they came at the right price.

Baltimore may also look into adding a late-inning relief ace. Billy Wagner, Mike Gonzalez and Jose Valverde could all be attractive to the Orioles under the right circumstances and would allow Jim Johnson to remain as a setup man.

Baltimore has made notable trades in each of the last two winters, and Luke Scott may shape up as the team's most movable commodity. Scott has been moved out of the outfield in favor of youngsters Reimold and Felix Pie, and he may lose his job as the designated hitter over time to the loser of the left-field derby.

The Orioles go into this winter having shed big contracts in Mora and relievers Jamie Walker and Danys Baez, and they find themselves in the position to spend money and have an active offseason. The Winter Meetings is merely the first domino in that plan, and Baltimore may bide its time all the way up to Spring Training in February.

The Orioles on Tuesday decided not to offer arbitration to any of their four free agents, including third baseman Melvin Mora, according to the Baltimore Sun. The Sun reported that arbitration was not offered to Mora, relievers Danys Baez and Mark Hendrickson and catcher Chad Moeller.
If Mora had accepted the Orioles' offer and elected to sign with the club, Baltimore would have to pay him at least $8 million next year. Hendrickson is the "most likely" of the four players to re-sign with the Orioles.
