MAESTRO

4-3? 3-4?

19 posts in this topic

I've watched the 3 games played thus far, and even looked at the highlights of it and paused it to examine; but i just can't really tell what our base defense is this year? Does anyone know for sure?

I ask, knowing that in pre season Kruger was lining up as a DE in place of Suggs. I haven't seen Suggs playing end much at all thus far, and i've seen Ngata line up as a DT only an end. Just curious. Thanks!

For the game Ive been able to watch and the highlights/ replay games from the other 2 Ive seen Suggs line up as a DE almost 80% of the games Ive watched. Ngata and Gregg lining up in the middle and Pryce on the other side, its one of the main reasons we've been even stingier against the run because we have 4 gaps filled already in down lineman, as opposed to Gooden jumping in and filling a gap like Scott used to do.

It's a Hybrid between both really. Although most of you hate him, Mike Preston said it best. If Suggs stands up it's a 3-4, if he's in a 3point stance it's a 4-3.

Mike Preston is just repeating what Trevor Pryce said:

"It just depends on whether or not whoever's playing the rush linebacker puts his hand in the ground. And that's a personal preference, you know what I mean? If it's Suggs out there and he puts his hand in the ground, we look like a four man front. If it's Paul out there and he stands up, we look like a three man front. So really it just depends on whatever that guy wants to do."

Thanks for the responses, i appreciate it. For me it was something i was curious about, but a big reason is i wanna know a factual way to line up my boys on Madden lol. I have seen JJ on the end as well too, and i think one of you guys hit it on the head; its hard to tell because we have so many looks.

So it's basically a 4-3, but the outside rusher just stands up sometimes. It technically becomes at 3-4, but it's got the same principles as a 4-3, with perhaps a little bit more disgiuse on who the 4th rusher is going to be, but not as much as your usual 3-4.

Line up your front seven like this and use a PHI D so they line up in 4-3.

RE - Suggs
DT - Ngata, Gregg
LE - Johnson
OLB - Kruger on right Barnes on left
OR
Barnes on right Gooden on left is faster

I found this to work VERY well in Madden.

Usually what works well in madden doesn't translate on an NFL field for some odd reason

It's because speed is totally vital on Madden. Not so much in the real game.

Put Pryce in the middle beside Ngata for a better pass rush, put Kruger as the LE, LBs Gooden Lewis Barnes. The athleticism of your linebackers should be too devastating for the CPU to handle. I play on all Madden and with the help of a trade to Sean Smith the CPU doesnt score more than 14 on me ever.

i believe it's considered a 3-4 hybrid
[/quote]

On Madden its considered a 3-4 Predator,LOL! It's a 3-4 Hybrid type of D that looks like a 4-3 but actually it's a 3-4 or it can be both,LOL!

We pretty much are a 4-3. Why do you think that ray lewis lost weight and jarret johnson seems more trim and faster? Its because the LBs in a 4-3 scheme have to cover more ground.

If you actually read the thread you would then know that he is wondering for the game and not in real life, nice try though.

Yes we run a primary 4-3...which I think helps our stout run D even more so, cuz Ngata and Gregg are too big, strong and just too good to push around and run up the gut.

I agree with most of the posters that this is a hybrid defense most of our d line players can almost play either position ends or OLB or even DT's...Basically we can lineup in any way on the defense switch it around and any QB won't know what or who hit him...LOL!!!
