Will Welker Be Back In The Pats Game?

35 posts in this topic

anyone heard how long he is going to be out cuz it would be huge if we didnt have to cover those wes welker screen plays they love to run so much and we would be able to send more pressure with having to worry about being burned

We'll have to wait until the Wed injury report to see if he even practiced. Because we know there's no way any information is coming out of Belichick's mouth.

But like I said before. Even if he doesn't play they have a carbon copy of him in Edelman.

Is Edelman as quick or as good a route-runner as Welker?

He's still unproven if that's what your asking. But Fast. Yes.
"Edelman was not invited to the 2009 NFL Combine; at his pro day, he recorded a 20-yard short shuttle time of 3.92 seconds, which would have been the fastest time of any player at the Combine."

But we all know that the Patriots can make a star out of any player on offense. Except for Lawerence Maroney (the guys a bum).

That shuttle time is impressive. It'll be interesting to see if the coaches put Washington on him or Welker(if he plays) and leave Walker against Galloway on the outside.

As for Maroney, I don't think he's as bad as people think. He was solid his first two years but injuries and inconsistent workloads have hurt him the past two years.

speed isnt everything a player needs to order to succeed in the NFL today, i mean yea its a good thing to have but those 40 times and such, go right out the window if the player cant perform on a week in and week out basis.... Prime Example?..... Ex Raven Yamon Figurs....the guy had the fastest time in the combine before being drafted by us, but could do little/much else in order to compensate....so Speed isnt everything when it comes to football. The sport requires you to possess a multitude of skills (good hands, good awareness, vision, elusiveness, ability to shed would be tacklers, get into the open field...and more)

All good points. However, a shuttle time as good as Edelman is a great indication of how quick he gets in and out of his breaks when running routes. Quickness and speed are to different things.

And we weren't necessarily saying he could be great because he's fast. We were saying that the way the Patriots use Welker and his backup Edelman - Speed & Acceleration is essential. They like to have that shifty, fast underneath WR.

you have a point, i was just saying because, people make speed out to be some sort of god send talent when every they see a player/guy put up a time like Yamon or anyone else had... and dont really have "all" the tools needed in order to become a well rounded type of player. and the fact that everyone above was talking about his times at the combine or whatever so i brought it up.

Anyone can be fast, but it takes Skill and talent, coupled with a good system in order to maximize a player's true potential.. IF... IF they are willing to put forth the work in order to achieve it.

As long as we put pressure on Brady, it won't matter...
It's a two-way deal. If the corners can keep up with the receivers, it'll give the front four more time to get to Brady. However, if the front four can get to Brady quickly, the corners and safeties won't have to cover their men as long.

He'll be back this week. I'm worried fellas, I think they can do some damage when all healthy.
He's going to get open so all they can do is limit the YACs.

Dude I got a text from my Blackberry NFL update I signed up for. Makes sense they pulled him from the game and put Smith in.

Not real worried about the Pats, Our O can't be stopped right now and they have less a defense the Browns had. Maybe they'll Bench Brady like they did Quinn!!

I expect welker to be back, bad news for raven nation. He's not so much known for screen passes as working the underneath to perfection. With galloway and moss drawing deep coverage, welker should have a field day.
Edleman is a rookie free agent, a college QB. He's a welker type of guy and has looked very good in his few opportunities. I expect BB will work him into some option/wildcat plays before too long.
I expect this to be a close game, mainly because half our defense is on the injury report and brady will probably not be in top form for another 4-5 weeks. Otherwise, the ravens wouldn't have a chance. Ravens loose this game regardless, but not by as large a margin as there'd be if playing a healthy patriot team.

Makes more sense that we were up 34-3 and no need to injury our QB.

I agree 100% but this had me wondering, I have searched the web and can't find anything to back it. So I assume it's lame or just hasn't been reported anywhere else yet (doubtful)...

If Flacco has a "seperated shoulder" the Ravens are doing a great job keeping it under wraps. Especially after the monster game he put up yesterday

I don't see Galloway as much of a threat dude's lost a step or three since his foot injury. Welker ain't too scary either, i'd rather have him have a big day than Moss. And you can draw up all the wildcat/option plays you want, it isn't going to produce much against us.

I think pressure, not sacks will be a big factor. The Jets didnt sack Pretty Boy Brady once but got enough pressure to throw him off.

I wonder how much pressure they can generate against our mountain range of offensive lineman, especially if Wilfork is out and that they already traded away Seymour. Methinks were going to have a field day with their d-line.....

I also think there will be quite a few flags for holding, illegal contact, pass interference, illegal formation, etc.
