First problem is that you can vote for yourself. That is really stupid.

Second, they are pointless. Certain posters get negative or positive reviews no matter what they type. I have seen it and it makes the system useless.

A few days ago someone logged in and gave every post (12 or so) a negative review, and then had theirs with a positive. It would be one thing if you could not vote for yours. I never pay attention to the rep thing, and many here have admitted to the same. So again, why is it here? Everyone knows that people on the 'net' will vote up or down just for the heck of it with no reason behind it.

Suggestions...ideas?

Originally, the reputation system was intended as a way to allow the community to police itself alongside the Moderators. The idea was to downvote offensive or troll posts, and once a level of negative reputation was reached, the post would turn invisible (like on YouTube's comment system.) However, the functionality was never fully implemented, and there's still tweaks to be made. So as of right now, the reputation system is simply a like/dislike button.

I personally don't like it (even though I have the highest rep on here, lol), but we Mods have been discussing other uses for it, on-and-off. For now, the system will stand since there hasn't been an overwhelming amount of abuse (save for the occasional troll) and there could be ways to make it useful.

I agree with Tighthead. Get rid of Reputation points. Replace them with Thanked posts.

This whole reputation thing has been a HUGE headache the last 10 days or so, we have had posters randomly hitting everyone's threads, one of Steeler fans get everyone of his posts dinged, and a couple of other things I will keep to myself. We have an e-mail into the admins to re-revisit this. If someone dings your post please don't get your feelings hurt, it is someone thinking he is all that because he can.
