I will be very surprised if we give up more than 13 points to the Frowns.

I think we gave up 27 points to them the last time we faced. Of course, Josh Cribbs was partially responsible for that...

Yes, but this year's version is a lot worse... we should eat Brady Quinn for lunch :)

I voted for Above Average, not elite yet, but getting there. Just need to fix a few things here and there with the secondary and pass rush.

Edit - I expect the Ravens' DBs to take out their frustration on the Browns!

I dont necessarily agree with our WR's being in the best possible spot 1/2 the time...Walkers knock down was pretty lucky and he only got one finger on it...Walker is our worst corner we have on the roster by far...and yes I agree redzone D has been pretty good mostly because they have tried to run on us in the redzone...big mistake

I think you mean DB's.. And like i said go back and look at film. When Foxworth and Washington has a 1 inch gap between the recevier and them how is that bad coverage? The TD in the back of the end zone had 3 guys right behind him, Rivers threw a perfect ball over the top to a guy who has a 5+ inch reach advantage over them.

And for Walker being the worst corner we have.. He made the best play of all the CB's, he still knocked the ball out, something that none of the other CB's did. And what makes Walker the worst CB? Because he had a terrable preseason? We just brought in Chris Carr who is a scrub at CB.. I'll take Walker over him anyday.

I picked 'above average'. I know we're used to them giving up less points, but they are still doing enough to win the games... As long as they hold the opposition to less points than we make, then they are doing fine. And they are awesome in the red zone.

I think if we lost the SD game you wouldnt be saying that lol
Well, yes, I wouldn't be saying "they are doing enough to win games" and "they hold the opposition to less points than we make" if we lost, because, well, then neither of those statements would be true. I'm confused as to what you are trying to say, but I know you were just joking, so I won't belabor it... :)

We need to squash the home run hits. Most of these can be fixed through better communication on field. I still think we are above average. Philip Rivers just put on a precision passing clinic.

This is where we are getting burned, by the deep ball. We are worst in the league in two weeks in giving up 12 plays of 20 yards or more, it's only week two and it's not time to freak out. But it is time to start playing tighter coverage.
Part of the problem is that no one can run the ball on us so they are forced to throw it. If we get better presure on the QB, he won't have as long to throw it down field.

I still think the no-huddle-two-minute-drill is scary as hell against us. I'm hoping Mattison can change this fear that I have which stems from Rex's days.

Where's my Organized Chaos!!!?!!! Rex's defensive schemes brought uber pressure on QB's, forcing quick decisions , short plays and turnovers. Mattison's Organized Mayo has brought sustained drives and big plays because of minimal pressure on opposing QB's resulting in more heat on our smallish secondary. BRING BACK ORGANIZED CHAOS!!! Rex's old schemes plus Cam's new look high powered offense would make the Ravens the most dominate team in football.

I find it interesting all the people thats saying we need Rex or his system back, as if the Ravens D was never gashed under Rex. I can remember Peyton torching us last year, SD stuck it to us pretty bad back in 07 and the NY Giants rushed for over 200 yards last year. Those are just ones from recent memory. I don't think anyone wants to go back to being Miami's only win in 07 or the disgrace in Detroit back in 05'. So let's not act like every game under Rex was great.

Everyone talks about the Ravens not getting good pressure on the QB, but that just is not true. The Ravens pass rush and blitz beat up on Rivers all day. The only reason it didn't seem that way was because a 6'4/6'5 Rivers was able to stand tall and hang onto the ball a split second more, then throw the ball up to 6'5 WRs vs 5'11 DBs. But guys like Ngata, Nakamura, JJ and Suggs hit Rivers often.

As far as the Ravens getting sacks or turnovers. We are actually doing better or just as well as both the Jets and the Steelers, so maybe these numbers will allow some of you to give coach Mattison a chance.

Ravens
Sacks, Ints, PDef, FF
5. 2. 10. 2

Jets
Sacks, Ints, PDef, FF
2. 2. 11. 2

Steelers
Sacks, Ints, PDef, FF
3. 1. 10. 2

So as you can see the Ravens have a total sack number of the Jets and Steelers combined. And all other defensive number are about the same.

The Ravens had a really poor performance in the secondary. Nobody can justify that, but one of the positives you take from that defensive effort is that the Chargers never really just drove up and down the field. All of their scoring were set up by big plays. So if and when we cut out the big play then we are good, because the Ravens were in position to come away with a least 2 extra ints, but 6'5" WRs were able to out jumped them.

The Ravens will not continue to give up the points or the big yards. We are still the great Ravens D and will be the best in the biz by seasons end.

Rex was one of the best DCs in the NFL and he did a lot for us. Will we miss him, yes but do we need him or his style? No.

I think any of us would be foolish not to think this defense would have an adjustment period with the switch from Rex to Matti.

The only reason the defense is ranked so low is because of the yards given up to Rivers. But when it comings to Scoring this defense has only given up 3 true Tds. One came on a long play to a RB, another came by a TE matched up on a LB, and the long one to Jackson was a mix up on Ed Reeds part, how often does that happen?

In reality this defense is a Sproles 81 yard TD, a blocked punt for TD, and int return away from being ranked as one of the best. The Ravens D gave up 10 true points in week 1 and 26 in week 2. That's 36 points in 2 games which is a average of 15.3 ppg. I'll take that.

The Ravens Defense has been above average so far in 2 games, but all signs point to the Ravens getting back to being that dominate unit in the next few weeks, imo.

36/2 = 18 points per game. Not 15.3

Other than that, agreed.

dude i don't know about anybody else but i have to say -pleeese! Gee we got scored on by one of the elite QB's in the game it's panic time.i thought the D looked great as usual 0ut of what- 5 trips to the redzone they scored 4 FG'S. Boy we're in troube now.I honestly don't know what people expect, the chargers also have some pretty good recievers and corners. I for one am having a great time not having to wait for the D to score all the points. GO RAVENS!!!!!
