nono you got it wrong, double positives are allowed in sentences... double negatives aren't allowed though... so you picking the steelers to lose, and burning the moth bait is a double positive :)

If I broke a silly rule of yours, then I sincerely appologize. That said, here is a fact: I will NOT pick the Bengals to beat the Steelers.....EVER.
Steelers are 1-1 and lost because our kicker had a bad day (so did Santo but whatever). I have all the faith and confidence in their ability to beat the Bengals this Sunday.

What time is the official deadline? I have a feeling I'll be changing these picks alot.
I usually state the deadline as "saturday night", however, I do not enter and tally picks until I wake up on sunday. So you have until 11am EST to make and change your picks.

Ahhh. I see you are braving the waters and going against the grain with the Seahawks. Your the only other person who hasn't jumped on the Bears Bandwagon.

Grant it the Seahawks have a lot of injuries and might be out Hassleback. But hasn't Seneca Wallace proven that he's more than capable of winning at home? And I like his scrambling capabilites with a hobbling OL.

Since everbody is picking the Bears - I feel it only right to to have faith in the Seahawks.
It's probably just because I don't know what I'm doing. :) But until proven otherwise, I'm figuring the Bears win over the Steelers last Sunday was one of those "any given Sunday" things. They usually don't come this early in the season [based on my extensive research of a general feeling I have], because I think the "upset" team probably lets their guard down, and that would happen more in the 3rd quarter of the season, after the team has established their position in the standing and before the push for the playoffs. But then, maybe the Steelers reached the "establishing their position" phase early since they are the returning Superbowl champs.

What if you wake up earlier? :P

Based on my unofficial and probably-not-reliable stroke tally, only the following teams have been picked by everyone to win [and if someone changed their entry after I tallied, I didn't change it here]:
Green Bay Packers
Baltimore Ravens
New York Giants
Houston Texans
San Diego Chargers
Dallas Cowboys

You can change your picks until 11am EST on sunday, since that is when I log and tally the picks. So even if you did change afterwards, they would not reflect in your record.

Am I the only one to pick Detroit??
C'mon guys, it's the 4skins!
I'll tell you why I don't like Detroit in this game. It's all about the defense.

The 2007 Detroit Lions (you know, the ones that started this 19 game loss streak) were the first team in NFL history to allow quarterbacks to complete over 70 percent of their passes over the course of the season.

It could be worse though, right? Well in 2008, as we all know, it got worse. The 2008 Detroit Lions had the worst defensive passer rating in history, 110.8. (In comparison, the Baltimore lead the league with a dpr or about 60.6.)

Of course, the fact that their defense wasn't as good as Baltimore's is nothing to be ashamed of (and also painfully obvious). However, only five quarterbacks in NFL history have bested a 110.8 passer rating in a season, and four of them are named Brady, Manning, Montana and Young. In other words: Detroit's defense was so bad last year it made every quarterback it faced look like a Hall of Famer at the very height of their powers.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/kerry_byrne/09/23/lions/index.html?eref=T1

I know the automatic response is "Passer rating is sooo overrated" so here's another fun fact.
The 2008 Lions had four interceptions. Now when you compare that Ed Reed's 9 interceptions, the Lions seem pretty terrible, but it gets worse. The last team to have four or fewer interceptions were the 1934 St. Louis Cardinals, and they played only 3 games.

But this is the Not For Long league, right? Things can easily change, but...
In their first two games, the 2009 Detriot Lions have a defensive passer rating of 134.9 and they have allowed their opponents to complete 80% of their passes.

In short:
The Lions defense went from bad (2007) to worse (2008) and looks even worse in 2009. They have coupled their embarrassing defense with an offense led by a rookie quarterback.

Now they are going to face the Washington Redskins. A team which was top five in total defense last year, and has allowed just 30 points so far this year.

This is why I don't have confidence in the Lions odds of winning tomorrow. That and I like the Redskins, so maybe there's a little bias in the mix too.

Then again, only the Rams have scored fewer points than the Redskins, so maybe they have a chance,
As they say "To each his own."

Well then, good thing it is 2009! New hotshot QB to throw bombs to Megatron while Carlos Rogers looks on helplessly, new stud TE to lay Andre Carter's overpaid butt out, and speaking of Detroit's defense....I like their new additions of Julian Peterson, Anthony Henry and Louis Delmas. This defense will gain a little respectability against an awful 4skins offense this week.

I'm going to say....20-17, Detroit. B)
