The Ravens Are #1

58 posts in this topic

I love the praise we are getting but at the same time these rankings are totally bogus. They had us at 11 and 10 weeks 1 and 2 and we go 2-0 and they move us to 1, when New York and Atlanta were already ahead of us? I think they are putting too much stock in how great they think the Chargers are. Lets see how we do when we face the Patriots or Vikings.

Hate to be the downer, but I didn't give a crap what they thought when they hated on us, and I don't give a crap now.

Yeah i have to agree. It's nice seeing some respect come around this way but it is the second week. We will have a better idea of how good the Ravens are until we beat some more legit teams. Especially the Steelers.

I'm tempted to print this out and frame it, don't know when it will happen again but it's so good to get that credit so early in the year.

dont get me wrong, i am happy about this, but those ratings are so flawed? how are the saints ranked that low, and the vikings that high? I just don't see most of those being very accurate.

Thanks for the link. I agree with Ray that Ryan was last year and this is a new year for the Ravens. We need to focus on us, not Ryan and the Jets

i dont care what the power rankings say..but i honestly agree that we're #1 with the giants right beside us..out of the 2-0 teams we are the most balanced...and once we play the Browns on sunday and our defense gets back on track the Experts will really be scared of our future Potential.

Someone sent me the link in an email today at work and I thought for sure that it was photoshopped. But to my surprise, ESPN really does feel that we rank #1.

Although, here lies the bogusness of most of these rankings. ESPN had us jump from #10 to #1 with just one win. While the Chargers dropped from #6 all the way down to #11. How did that happen? If they think we're the best team then why would losing to the #1 team drop them all the way from #6 to #11? Not to mention that Phillip Rivers had a career day against us and the game came down to a 4th down stop in the red zone.

The thing that I wonder is where we would have ranked if we would have lost that game. We were already at #10 so where would we have ended up after a week two loss? I just don't get the logic behind it.

Yes, the rankings aren't accurate, but you have to admit, it is pretty cool to see us at the top.

However, the most important thing here is to realize that regardless of their validity, this shows that our team may finally be getting into the national media spotlight, which in turn gets us more fans, and makes our team more popular.

We may be becoming the new media darlings...

if anything its nice to know that the sports world is paying the ravens attention. Don't let it get to your heads fans enjoy it for the day forget about it and focus on the Runs i mean the Browns. For me personally im a big fan of Sports Center, Total Access and Playbook; they are great shows but it sucks that your team plays a great game and they get no coverage its kind of your chance to get an outside look at your team get a recap and feel good about it all. Now with new rankings and the rest of the world looking at us maybe we can get as much coverage as the Lions, Raiders and Browns that would make me happy

What? These rankings aren't based on last year, they're based on this year. This season we are clearly doing better than Pittsburgh. And the Saints have beaten up on a couple nobodies and still have no defense. No one deserves #1 more than we do.

I agree with you about the Steelers, but one could make an arguement for the Giants being above the Ravens. They did not have the luxury of playing a West team.

i wouldnt say they beat nobodys. they did beat a mcnabbless eagle team. but the eagels have a good D.
the saints are like the phx suns in basket ball. they can score alot now. but how will that help them in the post season? it probably wont.

Personally I don't think travelling across the country to play an elite team was a luxury; our win over SD was the deciding factor for me to give us the nod over NYG.
At any rate, to say we're overrated....

I was thinking more along lines of the two-win Chiefs. But if you think about it, the best team we've played in this very young season had the same record as the worst team that NYG has played so far. That's why I would give them the nod, but that's just me.

Ultimately, we know that this counts for nothing, but it is intersting to see us ranked so highly by Espn of all sources.

ok you think were over rated. but why would you give the steelers the number one spot from what u seen so far?
the frist two games i must say we have out played them. even though they could be 2-0 and we could be 1-1. in both games the steelers played u never felt like they had control of the game. in both games we played even though they were close we were pretty much in control. pluse add to the fact they cant run the ball they shouldnt be number 1.
just my two cents,

did you give us the nod over the G-men based on defensive or Offensive statistics? im tryna understand where the conversation began regarding the Ravens vs G-men so I can join the debate

Would I say that a team which has lost a game should be ranked higher than teams who are undefeated so far?

No.

The Stealers never have control of their games. Its either close or they Steal the game at the end. Pretty much what the Colts did Monday night. In my opinion, they both should be 0-2 right now. All I know is- the rankings are based on Offensive and Defensive Yards Gained or Not allowed. Points are irrelevant in terms of rankings. I know we may be #1 against the run. Im scratchin my head about everything else though.

Sports Illustrated just came out with their rankings too. Guess which number we are on that one? ;) I'll give you a hint, its starts with o and ends with ne. :)
