Yea a lot of overreacting IMO as well. We got burnt on a few plays today but for the most part our secondary played well. Let's face it Rivers and that offense are not slouches or bums and executed when they needed to but our corners and safetys were there on most every play but Rivers put it where our guys couldn't get to it. The bottom line is when the Chargers got into the redzone our defense made the stop and made them kick field goals which ultimately sealed the deal for us in the end. If we take away those 3 big plays it becomes a blow out and this game wouldn't even be close. Don't lose faith yet fellas and for God's sake please don't start the "I miss Rex Ryan crap" already. We are finally a complete team IMO, with a few minor patches to fix, and a whole lot of season to fix them..let's get prepared for the ride. Go Ravens!
just a short while ago we were the team that was kicking field goals instead of scoring touchdowns. As long as we can still play great red zone offense, I will take todays Ravens over yesterdays.

Suggs is overpaid, plain and simple.

All players everywhere are overpaid.

Stopping in the red zone counts more then garbage yards.

Mattison will adjust and the secondary will get their stuff together. Good news is we don't need to win by field goals any more.

Its a good thing we aren't in the playoffs yet then funky.

Its not so much the coach or the scheme as it is the personnel. JJ is too slow to play OLB in a 4-3, Suggs is the only edge rusher, Ngata needs to dominate more so when hes on one on one. Lewis is clearly still legit, but lets be honest he isnt the Lewis from 96-05 when he was faster than some wide receivers and could roam sideline to sideline without problems. Our corners arent even close to shutdowns, and have a hard time being left in man coverage even before today. I just dont think we have the personnel to be a 4-3 team, despite Lewis prob racking up 120+ tackles this year in the 4-3 I just dont think it benefits our weakest part of the team and thats been the secondary for the past 3 years.
I agree. After the first game I posted saying that I thought the defense had fallen off. People went ape saying delete this post and that I was wrong. But I still stand by my opinion. Our CB's are suspect. Our pass rush is not getting through fast enough. We upgraded our oline but other teams pass rush get to Flacco. what the heck???

Ok, I've read every post and almost everyone has a great valid point to it. However, in a way I do think people are over-reacting and in a way it is totally legit to be questioning what the deal is. When I heard Rex Ryan was leaving for the Jets I was both angry and nervous. Now, I'm pretty much happy for him and the Jets and what they have accomplished so far. After all, it's nothing but Ravens leading their Defense anyways. Remember, last year we also had Bart Scott and Jim Leonhard. Bart Scott was in my opinion the 2nd best pass rusher on our defense last year. Jim Leonhard also helped on surprise blitzes and played well against the pass. Our DB's are still getting settled in and settled down. It's also still early in the season and I really don't feel like we'll be discussing this later down the road. Two things need to happen to help our passing defense. First of all, enough of the talk and let's see some more walk out of our front four and much better blitzing schemes for the Linebackers. Remember, the trick is to make the other team to think you are going to drop back and play coverage... Also, I think we should utilize Ed Reed and Dawan Landry a little bit more in passing coverage. But that is tricky to do and can easily be mishandled. Overall, I think we will see more from our defense, just gonna take some time. All our guys respected Rex Ryan to the fullest for the most part. We'll see how well our defense performs after they have had a few runs with ol' Mattison. I say give 'em a chance guys.... After all, it ain't like we have to rely on field goals all the time anymore.

Well according to Phillip Rivers himself he did have trouble on picking up on some of our blitzes and coverages.

We faced one of the most accurate passers in the NFL today and he let us know it. And even with the career day of 400,000 passing yards, we still won and he threw two costly interceptions. Which BTW in 2008, Rivers threw a total of 11 picks in 16 games and 34 TD's to go along with them. All while throwing over 4000 yards and a passer rating of 105!

Also before everyone starts going all "doom and gloom", you all have such short term memories around here. Does anyone else remember what Peyton Manning did last season to our secondary? A secondary that boasted the likes of McCalister and Rolle? He torched us!!! It was the last game that C-Mac played as a Baltimore Raven.

Everyone just needs to calm down a little and be happy that we just won. An elite QB torched us between the 20's and couldn't get the job done in the red zone. Our defense did what they had to do and our offense made up for the defensive mistakes.

This is the type of game that we've been waiting for. An offense that can back up our defense. We may be looking at the most complete Ravens team that we have ever had.

Same reason why Marvin Lewis left,,Opportunities. Please Mr Goodell change this rule so Cam cant leave us while under contract.
I think Cam is different; he may get one more shot, but many teams probably feel like Cam is a great, great coordinator, but simply isn't cut out to be a head coach.

Number 1 run defense because the Ravens can be passed on all day. Just like the Colts had the number 1 pass defense last year because everyone could run on them. Don't let the stats fool you. There is a major problem in the secondary for the Ravens.

Its great that the Ravens can score points and they look like a playoff team but in the palyoffs points become hard to score.
Colts had the #1 pass defense last year? hardly Steelers, Ravens, Eagles, Bucs and Cowboys were all in front of Indy in pass D. Ravens run D is not top notch because teams pass on them they are top notch at run D because of the DT's and LB's are of good quality.

I'm not worried. Coming into the game I knew the Chargers would give us the hardest time on defense because of the match-ups. Sproles is the fastest midget and we always have a hard time stopping those little guys. The Chargers have 2 6'5" WR's while our CB's and Safetys are 5'10", 5'11". Then you have one the best QB's in the game today throwing to them. I expect them to bounce back next week against the Browns.

That was a tough match up, I think Sproles played a huge part in the huge yardage total we allowed. He forces you to press down in coverage to prevent check downs and long runs after the catch.

San Diego had some huge plays, that Sproles screen pass and Jackson TD were both perfectly executed. I'm not sure how you address Sproles underneath, Gates in the middle and Jackson deep effectively? Good thing I'm not the coach lol.

I was impressed by our red zone defense though, great to shut them down at that end. We lose that game if so many FG's weren't forced.

Also, don't rule out fatigue there. It was boiling hot and bright sunshine, which certainly helps a prolific passing attack. I'm glad our defense is shutting the run down, epic passing offenses won't win the Superbowl in the middle of winter.

I can't see how you can blame the coach for the players not stopping the play. Unless I'm mistaken with the exception of the Sproles flats fiasco a player was on top of the receiver just about everytime.

The one TD there were three guys who were there they were all Rex Ryan hired guys.

Give it time.

I say give it some time. The chargers are a great offense. Plus we have a lot of match problems with them. Sproles is a quick back which our team isnt good going against and our CBs are small fast guys and they had huge match up problems with SD bigger recievers. And you have to give credit to Rivers (though he is whiny little baby) as he played great. Its all about match ups and most of us knew coming in our D did not match up with their RBs or WRs.

Onto Rex Ryan. I would have to say we made the right decision hiring Harbaugh. Harbaugh is a classy guy and a leader. Rex Ryan showed this week and the week he played us in the preseason that he is not a classy guy. I used to love the guy but i got to say i am losing some respect for him. The way he bad-mouthed the ravens and harbaugh and then all that was said this week between the Jets and the Pats.

And finally, our D played awful yesterday but i still think it has some promise. Why? Caused we stepped up in the clutch against a great team. Last year we gave up game winning drives (or tying drives) to the titans, and steelers (twice). I think playing more out of the base is probably going to help with that. i could contine on why i think playing more base will help in the clutch but i have to get going.
Huge Jets fan here always been a fan of how you guys play. Smash mouth football and great defense. i dont know about the interviews he did there but Rex has always been respectful to the ravens in the Interviews he did here especially to Harbaugh especially how he (harbaugh) treated him after he didnt get the HC job. Said he learnt how to deal with people and thats how he plans on working with with our OC who was p*ssed he didnt get the job. Said yeah he was mad that he did get the Head coaching job but got over it. You guys have a great team Flacco seems to be the real deal.. Good luck this year.

Not the rep system, just the clowns who can't handle the fact that other people don't necessarily think the same way they do.

Everybodys hoppin on the Jets bandwagon after 2weeks? Come On! Theres plenty of football to be played. Stats come, and Stats Go! One week you're #1, next week, #2,so on an so on. Rex Advertised, everybodys buyin, drivin the bandwagons off the lot. Just remember, every car has mechanical issues at some point. We'll see if they are a bunch of Honda's with Ford engines. If they keep it up, more power to them. Nobody believed in us last year. The jets may be legit. But as i've said, It's waaay to early for all this hype!

Ah Rex Ryan.A man who is frustrated that he got beat out by a special teams coach to get the Ravens Head coaching job.I wouldn't worry too much because I think Rex will go through the Marvin Lewis experience. It'll look like his team is going somewhere, but a few years down the line it'll start to fall apart and all his players will too.

What a load of crap.

Rex will be fine, hes a Raven at heart and still talks about us all the time. Love the guy, still hope he does well. Look forward to seeing him in the AFC champs. Jets are my second favorite team right now, I call them the mini-Ravens. But, Rex is dead as a Raven.

I think Marvin Lewis did get off to a good start his 1st year with the Bengals. Because of his defensive success with us, everybody gave Marvin and the Bengals alot of praise that year. Whats goin on wit Rex and his team does look familiar. The only difference is-Marvin didnt advertise/trash talk. I think they made the playoffs that year. After that, the ship sunk and never sailed again. Im not hatin on Rex. I just think he's doing too much talkin. It's cool that his team actually performed to back up his motor of a mouth. Now, he's beginning to challenge the 49ers with his so-called confidence. The Jets & 9ners are tryin to iron out an issue regarding legal matters, Rex responded "I wish We Were Playin Them"! Whaat? I like Rex, but yall gotta admit that he's bein a Cocky S.O.B. Cocky People always use the term confident as a way to sugar-coat being arrogant or cocky. But, in reality, they're **** in disguise.

I don't think the defense is missing Rex. What they're missing is McAlister-type corner who can play bump-and-run but also keep up with receivers down-field.

You know what's funny.

How a lot of members were jumping all over the the Jets and claiming they are wannabe Ravens. And that Rex can't leave the Ravens be. But then there are a lot of threads of us talking about Rex and the Jets, maybe we are the ones that have issues and maybe we are the ones that can't let go.

It's about time we do.

Rex is gone. Get over it. We don't play the Jets this year, so who cares about them. We're going to be fine, let's move on with our board's life.

No, Rex wanted a HC position. Had nothing to do with us not appreciating him enough, it was a matter of us not being able to give him what he wanted (and deserved).
We could have given him a HC position. We picked Harbaugh over him. We could've had Rex as HC while still calling defensive plays in-game like he does now for the 2-0 Jets.
