Reeling Ravens left bitter

By Joe Starkey

TRIBUNE-REVIEW

Wednesday, November 7, 2007

Win or lose, it is never dull inside the Baltimore Ravens' locker room.

That was especially true Monday night, in the wake of the team's worst defeat under ninth-year coach Brian Billick.

In the far corner, defensive linemen laughed as they swapped Willie Parker anecdotes. They weren't real impressed with Fast Willie, who was held to 42 yards on 23 carries in a 38-7 victory.

Defensive end Trevor Pryce finally turned toward the showers and said, to no one in particular, "Willie (expletive) Parker. What a fraud."

I like how Harrison asked who Trevor Pryce was!

LOL, how many ProBowls has he been to?

Ummmm, maybe, just maybe, James was calling Pryce a punk!

How is a Baltimore Raven physically threatening an oponent the same as Steelers fan posting "why do you hate the Ravens" topic on their message board?

Seems like you're grasping at straws here cause neither incident is the same... not even close.

Ward is one of the dirtiest players in the NFL and never gets called for it, thats why I don't like him.

That's total horse crap... BS! Ward IS NOT a dirty player! You tell me how the hit on Reed, for example, was a dirty hit? AND because of where it happened on the field, you can't convince me that it wasn't witnessed by at least 2 different officials and yet he wasn't flagged!

Maybe... just maybe... you're a sore loser?

i have to admit, Ward is a Good Player, and all that, and has very good sportsmanship (last week when Reed was injured on that one play, as soon as Reed hit the ground, Ward ran over to him and immediately started waving the injury team over to him)...so he's not THAT bad, its just bad he plays for the STEELERS is all, other than that blantant fact, i like him

if you know some of the background stories about some of the Raven Players...pretty intruging to read about, Bart Scott was "out on the street" in a BAD place where he would have likely been killed, he was robbed or something at one point during his high school days and the next day at school he saw the same guy who did the crime against him, needless to say, bart had a few choice thing to say about him, iusing his fists...they never bothered him again, he came from the Streets and almost being killed, to being an unknown nfl player, to the NFL star that he is right now. There's ALot more other stories to be intrigued about the Raven Players, you just have to them out...

Im not a sore loser, you won't see me anywhere on this board showing that Im a sore loser, I knew we would loose, I even predicted the lose to Buffalo even though it contradicts my fandome. I don't like ward because everyone else does, same reason I don't like Manning. Childish I know but hey its football.

It's funny how people criticize the Ravens players for talking smack, when Ward is one of the most mouthy players in the game - constantly talking back to other players and following up every play with a grin that is surely designed to annoy anyone who is not a Steeler/Steeler fan.

He's a heck of a player, but that doesn't mean I have to like him.

I don't care why you hate him... but to say he is a dirty player is just flat out wrong. Some of your own fans have admitted so. You cannot point to anything he's ever done and prove that he's dirty! Again, I don't care that you hate him... there are plenty of players that I don't care for... after Monday's game 57 Bart Scott and 55 Suggs are on my short list of players I dispise.

Mouthyness is one thing... watch a little more closely and you'll see that Ward usually only mouths off when the defender is in his face first. As for the grin... he's done that from day one... it's just who he is... he's own teammates have said they've heard him laughing when blocking for them or in front of, or trailing, the play. I don't blame you though if he was on another team it would probably annoy me too.

Hines Ward smiles even when the Steelers aren't doing well. So I don't care too much when I see him doing it. And I do have to give him credit for signalling our trainers after the hit on Reed. The play was still going on and the first thing he did was turn to our sideline and signal to them. He did it again after the play was over too.

I don't mind the smack talk between the players on the field. That is just trying to play head games. What I hate is the smack talk to the media and there have been plenty of Steelers guilty of it. Porter, Kevin Green and Thigpen all had big mouths.

Absolutely no place in the NFL for behavior like this.

What do you mean no place for this? It's the only best place for this!

In fact it is what the Ravens are missing the most.

Back in the day, The Baltimore Ravens earned, diserved, sought after, proudly wore and paid for

the moniker of "Baltimore Bullies". We were feared. It was effective.

Getting "into the head" of the opposition is the first best weapon any team can have.

Some have speculated that this is why Bellicheck never lets up on the gas. I agree.

Since then there have been some rule changes that seem to be geared toward making the NFL

a more offence friendly league. Most notably the "M&M" PI rule and the "Be nice to Carson because he's our only hope" rule.

If Bellicheck is to be commended it should only be for playing along by instilling his fear on offence.

If Billick is to be condemend it should only be for failing to capitolize on the rule changes.

We don't need a sure handed reciever or a bulls-eye QB, we just have to get the call.

Our defence has done a briliant job of adapting to the rules, but in doing so have lost

the spit and viniger that once had most WR thinking about the hit rather than the catch.

The more "glamorous' the QB the greater the worry.

I often wondered if sub-consciensly the Ravens set aside their angry attitude in an effort to

be more like the teams that are loved and admired rather than feared and respected.

Being the brunt of jokes in the booth is something I was just getting used to because that will never change.

We are who we are, and after Monday Night I belive it is the only way we can survive.

It is much better to be hated than ignored.

They went too far in pStBRg, from the booth to the sideline comments to the cheep shots on the field.

Say whatever you want but we were MUCH classier in our wins last year.

If we are who I think we are, they dug a very deep hole Monday Night and every team between now and

Jan. 1st will feel the repercussions.

IMO, we should go back to Detroit 05. That was the best loss we ever had because it became clear to me that we were not going to allowed to win so they took off the gloves and got their pound of flesh.

If your gonna do the time, you might as well committ the crime.

I'm not so sure the Ravens were ever feared as much as you make it sound... regardless "getting into someone's head" is much different than actually threatening them with physical harm. There is no place in the NFL, or any other sport, for that type of behavior!

Well pensacola, one of us is mistaken on what the NFL is all about.

Given the efforts put into making it less violent more acceptable to

a wider audience, it could be me.

But just for the fun of it, tell me what MASN is selling me when they advertise the Ravens

doing a parody of Talking Heads "This ain't no Party"

saying

"our game is football"

"our game is SMASHMOUTH"

"the only way we know how"

Or better yet, that little rendition MondayNight about how the birth of

Steelers football being the Dock workers vs the Steelmill

specifically to do bodily harm to one another!

Any way you cut it, the Ravens went to Pittsburg to play a game.

The Steelers came to fight and we got totally punked.

um he just went to one last year with the RAVENS

Sadly, Trevor Pryce was overlooked for the Pro Bowl last year. Mainly because people chose name recognition over stats in some case, and overlooked the fact that Pryce was the team's sack leader.
