M&t Gets 4 Wows From Espn

68 posts in this topic

I don't know if you guys read the ESPN.com division blogs but they are rating the different stadiums. M&T got 4 wows out of 5 (link below). Ketchup Field of course got 5. I swear, every poll about anything related to the NFL has the Steelers at the top. If ESPN had a poll about the best NFL team NOT in the state of Pennsylvania, the Steelers would be 3rd.

What other stadiums have you guys been to and how do they match up?

The Bank should get more respect than 4 wows. It's always jammed pack. And it's louder than any stadium in the league. It's nestled next to Camden Yards and the inner harbor. And the Defense chant takes on a whole different meaning.

5 out of 5 Wows.

Yeah, it looks like they were only talking about the buildings themselves, cause the external stuff at M&T is top notch. Perfect location, parking and tailgating are great.

I've been to Lincoln Financial (Eagles), FedEx (Skins), Raymond James (Bucs), the old Cowboys stadium and the Meadowlands (Giants/Jets) and I have to say our stadium is the loudest, and also the best for watching the game. My tickets are up in the nosebleeds at M&T and its still a great view, unlike the partially obstructed-view seats at FedEx (thanks Dan Snyder!)

It is a great view,,My only complaint about M&T Bank is,,Its too hot when its a bright sunny day in the 80s. I was being almost cooked out there. Why didnt they roof it like Seattles stadium is?

I'll throw this in there just for laughs, but in the rating for Raymond James stadium that also got 4 wows, they mention the Pirate Ship and how they shoot off cannons when they score. I was there for opening day 2006, when we went in there and beat them 27-0. The Pirate Ship was silent that day!

Seems like they add atmosphere (ie the crowd) into that equation. I think that's part of the reason they gave Heinz field 5 wows. Of course being SB champs has about 35% to do with it too.

Steeler fans have to admit, Heinz Field is probably one of the worst in the league.
Agree, Heinz Field is usually in dire straights late in the season. Media never gives any credit to Ravens, not a complaint - just a fact.

I have to agree. I went to the First Pitt game last year on MNF. I mean, its nice, but not nearly on M&t Banks level. I honestly have no complaint about it, other than the tickets not being free.

I still remember when they played the Phins in '07. They kept the sod out, and it stormed through the night. On gameday, they wore over 1" spikes. On one punt, the ball didn't bounce: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7DTNEa2E7w&feature=related

Our stadium even has heaters under the field to melt snow.

I would NEVER admit that. Why would Heinz field be the worst?? Apparently, it's among the best.
I LOVE Heinz Field. It's my Graceland.

BTW - I would not give you neg rep points for that comment. Not sure who would.

Oh, you're talking about the actual field and its condition.
Yes it got bad for a while. Remember, its in constant use and its real. I think they solved that issue. I don't mind if its less grassy come December. IMO, that's what a FB field SHOULD be.

The Miami game was a freak thing. I had been raining for days if I'm not mistaken.

On a slightly different topic. Did you hear all the talk about Ravens fans leaving early at the home operner? Do you think we lose points due to that? Do you agree that Ravens fans leave early? I know I'm in the house to the end. Maybe it's because I know my car is boxed in. No, it's because I love football Sunday at the bank. Just wondering what you guys think.

I did not see it and I sit in the lower bowl. I think with 30 sec left the exodus started. A lot of people were in the concourse because we were baking in the stands. I am still pink from sunburn, we were joking at least when the breeze stirred we were in a convection oven instead of regular oven:lol:. I sit on the rail so there is metal in front and below and boy is it hot!

Good point. If nothing else, Ravens fans are no worst than any other fans in the league. All and all, the Ravens have great fans and it's always a fun time at the bank!!

I think alot of people left "early" when we got the ball back with 1min 50 something left cuz they thought we were just going to do the kneel downs and that was it. Then KC called their timeouts and we had to run it in. Fans rarely leave early in close games, but when its over, most fans in any city will leave early. How many time have you seen Heinz field empty, ive seen it a few times over they years emptying out, especially that game the ravens trounced them.

I've left one game early my whole life. Fassel's last game coaching the G-Men against the Panthers in 2003 or 2004(?). I think it was week 17. Giants decided to make the comeback too late and the defense was still allowing Carolina to score. I would have stayed but Dad was ready to go.

...I shouldn' neglect to say that he wanted to leave the Giants/Broncos game in 1998. I made him stay and the Giants handed the 13-0 Bronco's their first defeat.

Back on topic - I drive through Giants Stadium P-lot everyday on my way to work; you should see the new stadium. That thing is going to be the Taj Mahal. The outside is cool, but the inside looks to be something else. Jerry Jones is going to be a littl jealous I think becuase the whole complex will consist of a Race Track, Football Stadium, Concert Arena, a Gi-normous mall called Xanadu and an indoor ski slope!

Obviously, M & T Bank Stadium is my favorite one of all. I love the crowd, the atmosphere, and the way we normally play at home. I have been to 3 away stadiums. My favorite of them was Raymond James in Tampa. I thought the open ends were cool, the weather was great and the fans were mostly cordial. This was in 2006, so when we continued to shut them out at halftime, almost 1/3 of the fans left. Next on the list was LP Field, where the Titans play. I went there for the playoff game. The stadium was pretty nice, not as nice as Raymond James i.m.o., but the fans were amped up and they were very loud. The third place I have been is Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. This stadium was pretty terrible. It was ugly, the weather stunk, and the fans were very pessimistic (this was last year ;) ). The sound system and video boards were bad as well.

I left early once, it was the Colt game in 2007. I had sleet and ice hanging off my eyelashes and ponytail, the Ravens were getting slaughtered on national TV and my dad was really cold and had a cold. I was worried because he was 70 at the time. Other then that I stay until the stands empty out because I hate being jostled.

I would LOVE to go to Raymond James and sit in the pirate ship. Fed-Ex is awful, the Vet and RFK were a blast for old stadiums.

You went to the vet? And what what you wearing? .....

I wore a Steelers Jersey (Woodson) to Giants Stadium once. Most reacted commically hospitable towards me. One dude wanted to shank me.
Giants scored a lot and each time I heard "Hey Woodson!" and they smiled and raised their beers for me. My Dad loved every minute of it.

I went to the Vet in 1990 when they carried Aikmen out on a slab and they all cheered. I had a pink on and was a Redskins fan since the Ravens were not born yet:P I went to 3 games there and used to go up for the Army-Navy game when I was a kid. My not yet husband did not come courting with flowers and candy, he came with football tickets

Hubby wore a purple Woodson into 3 rivers in 2000, one lady was not sure whether to slug him or buy him a beer.

*sniffle* I remember the first time I saw one. Great Adventure (six flags)....summer.....1998.... *sobs uncontrollably*

I'd say hubby's cool, but it sounds more like he's lucky. If I gave my Honey FB Tix she'd probably stick a thermometer in my mouth.

BTW - I guess the Iggles fans tolerated you then?
