Crabtree Is Getting Nervous

48 posts in this topic

From fanball.com:

The News
Pro Football Talk reports that unsigned draft pick Michael Crabtree hasn't spoken with anyone in the 49ers organization in two weeks.

Our View
Crabtree and his agent apparently have no sense of urgency to get this deal done and it appears that both sides are willing to be stubborn and stand pat. The receiver's agent is telling sources that at least one team is willing to give him a deal similar to Larry Fitzgerald's four-year, $40 million contract. Crabtree certainly has a high opinion of himself, thinking that he deserves the same amount of money as the best receiver in the game even though he's never played a single professional down. He does know that the NFL is a little tougher than the Big 12 Conference, right?

How 'bout this? Another diva wide receiver that hasn't even played one down in the NFL.

Anyone here think Daniel Snyder has been having a chat with them?

That being said, any team that picks him up for an outrageous amount of money like that is D-U-M-B Dumb! Not only would they be taking a huge risk on a player that has been tested on the pro level, but an attitude like that tells me that he's going to be poison for a team. I foresee another T.O. style player that starts whining when his team loses saying it's because they didn't throw him the ball enough.

Jerry Jones will pick Crabtree up, and for $50 million over 3 years.

Why?
Because he has no clue how to spend money to benefit a football team.

I think there is more to it than Crabtree wanting more money than the spot he was picked at. I think his injury was more serious than anyone thought. I dont know if that is the case or not, just my opinion.

No...it's pretty much all Crabtree wanting more money then he is "worth". He wants paid as an elite wide receiver yet has no desire to show that he is an elite wide receiver, so he can be paid as one. Such a vicious cycle. Let him re-enter the draft, be picked lower, and get offered even less money. I actually really like the idea. Because if his attitude keeps up, he'll never sign a contract, and we'll never have to hear about this again. Enjoy flipping burgers, Michael.

I think the league should consider giving any team whose pick holds out one compensatory pick one round later. This would give both sides reason to sign, the team doesn't want to lose that round's pick but a one round penalty is a lot better than losing the pick altogether, and the player knows that he probably won't go as high next year, probably dropping at least a round, so both sides have a better reason to strike a deal.

In case people didn't get my reference, it was from his post-game interview after Texas Tech beat Texas in the final seconds.

I'm so tired hearing about this guy.

Correct me if i am wrong but isn't it the dream of every football player to one day make it to the NFL?

Here is a guy that has made it and he isn't happy. I say the hell with him.

If i was the 49er's GM and if Crabtree walked into my office tomorrow and said "i will take the deal"

I would say "We tried to call you but you changed your #. The deal is off the table." then i would call security and have him thrown out.

The NFL doesn't need any more little punks.

Other points that have been made is the NFL really does need to do something about rookie pay. It makes no sense why a rookie gets paid more then some that have been playing for years, and if that does happen all the rookies of the future can thank Crabtree for messing up a good thing.

sorry just needed to vent i have read many things on this guy and have come close to posting my feelings but haven't until now.

little tid bit of information... matt stafford is getting paid more than tom brady right now... unless they redid brady's deal this year

the funny thing is.. when he's taken later next year, he's going to be saying... I want the contract of the 10th overall slot.... thats where I was drafted last year

Call me crazy but I dont think he gets drafted next year. His attitude and his inability to work out before the draft was a big reason that he fell this year. This holdout confirms what some teams at the top of the draft suspected about his diva attitude and the 49ers hold his rights up until the draft next year, so unless he gets permission from them- which he wont- he cant work out with teams or participate in combine again this year. No team is going to take that kind of risk with any draft pick, not when there are 200+ other players that dont present the same problems.

good point... so he'll be signed as an UDFA... by a certain team (raiders redskins or cowboys) and still ask for top 10 pick money....

I still wish we would trade for him.

We're going to have to draft a WR in the near future (as in next year), so why not send our bottom-of-the-first round pick for top-of-the-first round talent?

Really? The guy is a punk, a young T.O. And you really want him on the Ravens? He isn't even a "proven top of the first round talent". Ozzie isn't going to trade to get a spoiled brat who wants more money then he's worth. Look at Flacco. I'm sure he was expecting to go a little bit higher than he did. Sure, he knew he could play well, so maybe he thought he should make a bit more (this is hypothetical, we all know Flacco is about the game, not the dollar signs). He signed his contract, played an amazing rookie year (and so far so good in his sophomore), and he'll have a great payday coming up. That's all Crabtree had to do to get the money he thinks he deserves, show others he deserves it.

Crabtree doesn't care about football. Crabtree cares about money.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go get myself a five dollar footlong, so I too can feel like I have the talent to be paid a ridiculous amount of money in the NFL.

Guess he finally decided to take the offer the 49ers gave him or the 49ers caved in and is giving him want he wants. Saw on ESPN that Adam Schefter said Crabtree was flying out to San Fran tomorrow. If he does sign than good now he can be happy and join his team like he should have a long time ago. Should be interesting to see if he does sign, if he gets the Marshall treatment and has to work his way up the depth chart(which I exepect to happen with Singletary) or he gets insereted right way into the starting line up.

There is no way he's ready to play right now. His rookie season is shot, he pretty much blew that. IF he signs, its a long shot but it might also be a sign and trade deal. Like he signs a "dummy" contract with the 49ers, they trade him and he's free to continue negotiations for more money with his new team. 49ers get compensated for it, Crabtree presumbaly gets his money, everybody wins... Unless Crabtree turns into a bust, then the other team is screwed.

I didn't think of that, maybe there is going to be a trade for him but who knows. I'm just going to be glad that it will all be over with hopefully come tomorrow. He doesn't know how badly he hurt himself this season, he has alot of making up to do, not just to the fans but to the Niners organization and he better do that by going to every practice the rest of the season and earning that roster spot and once he gets that spot play well.

Well with the fact that Crabtree has not been working out and practicing, and he has this crap attitude, are we seeing the makings of the next Ryan Leaf?
