Runnin Raven

Mike & Mike Mmqb

Holy crap I just have to rant. Played Mike & Mike's MMQB this AM and there was no talk about the game that really happened (Ravens dominating throughout except score, Flacco's performance). All Golic was saying was there are real questions about that Baltimore D b/c "if Kansas City can oput up 24 on them..."!!! AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!! If I'm not mistaken the Ravens D gave up ONE length of the field drive all day. I gotta stop listening to so-called experts, even ones I actually respected (Golic).

Keep in mind, Golic probably didn't have time to really sit down and watch that Baltimore-Kansas City game because if he was really doing his job right, he was doing prep work for last night's Oakland-San Diego game all weekend. And besides, our game was an expected blowout, so of course most people will see the misleading score and assume that KC did more damage.

That's like assuming that Peyton Manning didn't have a 300-yard passing day against the Jags despite the 2-point difference in the end.

Yeah its pretty clear he just looked at the score and and that was it. And yeah, I thought about the fact that they were prepping for a televised game. Its just...disappointing.

I do like the M&M Show, but occasionally they say things that are off-the-wall, and one doesn't check the other as a good team should do. It's a small price to pay I suppose. Better to listen to two relatively normal guys talk and be wrong occasionally then have to listen to some of the other shows out there.

thats bs. if you work in media report it right. I go on the web every week and look at stats because the score only means a win it's no reflection of how you play. any nfl fan knows any given sunday. they got there score in a couple plays.. 20 rushing yars against the same guy who was the last to run 100+. i think thats darn good,

on a side note, did anyone notice just how uninformed those two, as well as Stever Young were about rules. None of them really knew what the rule was for the catch in the end zone by Oakland.

I work in media, and it's not always easy to report everything right. Stats can be misleading, as well; the yardage on special teams, for instance, is referred to as "invisible yardage" because the effect of field position isn't always taken into account in major stat lines. Additionally, there are plenty of things at work, such as game situation and extraordinary events, that aren't always shown in the stats (Brandon Stokley's deflected catch against the Bengals, for one.)

You have to consider, there were 13 games played this past Sunday (16 total, including Monday and last Thursday), and there's only so many hours to analyze so much game footage. That's why beat writers generally tend to be more informed about local teams than the national media. The only reason why the same teams get so much in-depth analysis is because they are usually the biggest markets, and therefore, get the most nationally-televised games and, subsequently, the most attention.

The media is a tricky thing, and I know it sounds like I'm making excuses, but it's tougher to cover everything evenly without someone getting slighted.

A couple years ago, Shockey caught a pass in the end zone in Seattle. As his toe was touching down (second toe - center of the EZ), he took a killer shot and the ball went flying. The officials reviewd the play and determined that the toe had just touched the turf and it was therefore a TD for the Giants. That's what I don't get about last nights call.

Maybe the rule was different then , but nowadays you have to control the ball all the way to the ground.

We covered the 13 point spread, put up over 500 yards of offense, allowed only 188 yards by KC's offense... I'd say that's a blowout
